24.01.2022 The Peninsula Aero Club wins in VCAT against the Shire again. Yesterday the much awaited VCAT decision about the Church Hour was issued and again has gone Pen...insula Aero Clubs way. VCAT has agreed that PAC has existing use rights to continue to fly between 9:30am & 10:30am on Sunday mornings as they have done for more than 40 years. It has ordered the Shire to remove the obsolete Church Hour condition from all our permits. PAC President Jack Vevers said, This is another significant win for PAC and everyone on the airport. It will contribute to safety for pilots, maintain the current amenity for the community and help preserve the viability of this important asset for the community. The decision has paved the way to substantiate our contention that our airport operations are lawful uses under our permits. PAC notes that the tribunal expressly found, amongst other things, that: It appears from the extract above of the Council Officers report to amend plans under Permit P17/1738.01 that the council has a clear view of what has occurred over a long period of time in relation to the Tyabb airfield [at paragraph 44]; and ...In the present case the permits in place indicate the use was being lawfully carried out, but for the 15 years prior to the lodging of the application for declaration, the church hour condition on the three relevant permits were being breached [at paragraph 48]. https://pac.asn.au/downloads/VCAT.pdf This decision is another in a series of hearings in VCAT versus the Shire. Earlier this year PAC was successful in preventing the Shire from unlawfully adding conditions to a simple application to amend plans under a permit to relocate a shed for the tractor. A decision on PACs application for costs against the Council in that proceeding is pending. In accordance with the VCATs decision yesterday, PAC will also make an application for its costs of the Church Hour proceeding against the Shire. Yesterdays decision vindicates PACs consistent position about its lawful operations under its planning permits. The Shires continuance of the upcoming enforcement proceeding raises questions about the Shires sensibility to the wasted costs associated with this course of action, which is likely to be in the range of hundreds of thousands of ratepayers dollars. It could also see PAC making another application for costs should it succeed in opposing the grant of the enforcement order. Vevers said Its wrong that ratepayers and PAC have had to bear the costs of the Shires folly when the money should have been better spent. Vevers also said that PAC is considering what other legal options are available for redress.

17.01.2022 Females to the front For the first time in 12 years, an all-female crew from #AusAirForces No. 36 Squadron has taken to the skies in a C-17A Globemaster III ...from RAAF Base Amberley. The mission was captained by Flight Lieutenant Caitlin Rytenskild and supported by co-pilot Flying Officer Gemma Dorn, and loadmaster Corporal Charlotte Roe. Flight Lieutenant Rytenskild said the image of the inaugural 2008 all-female mission was her inspiration growing up. Throughout high school I was interested in aviation and started flying lessons with a friend, Flight Lieutenant Rytenskild said. As it was such a male-dominated industry at the time, my mum was on the lookout for news that included a female pilot. She came across an article about RAAF women who flew the C-17A and cut it out of the paper to give to me." Over the years at No. 36 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Rytenskild received support from her supervisors and colleagues which inspired the voyage. 15.01.2022 In my book, if you stretch out a long weekend, that adds up to four days, right? With Covid the kill-joy ripping up the fun tickets on all our outback flying s...ince about forever, Rossy and I were hanging out for those travel restrictions to ease. So finally last Friday, we grabbed a handful of good mates and aeroplanes and headed as far west as we were allowed. Keeping it simple, we chose three very familiar outback destinations - Tibooburra, Broken Hill and Bindara Station - all of whom were tangibly excited to take our booking. Why not dust off the headset and crank up an easy little getaway of your own. Weve got these wonderful winter skies pretty much to ourselves ... See more

11.01.2022 This is the beluga whale-inspired mega cargo plane by Airbus and its powered by two Rolls-Royce aircraft engines. (Follow Tech That Matters for more.) This is ...the most adorable plane by Airbus, the Beluga XL. Its a massive transport aircraft based on the Airbus A330 airliner thats powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 aircraft engines. The smiley aircraft entered full-time service on January 9, 2020, to provide Airbus with 30% extra transport capacity. Unfortunately, the Airbus Beluga XL isnt for passengers, which is especially disappointing for children and rightfully so! Instead, it has been designed to transport aircraft components. At a whopping 206-foot-long, and 26-foot-wide, (or as long as two blue whales put together) the BelugaXL has the largest cargo bay cross-section of all existing cargo aircraft worldwide. According to Airbus, the BelugaXL can carry two A350 XWB wings compared to the Beluga ST, which can only carry one. It has a maximum payload of 51 tons (or 7 fully grown elephants). The Airbus Beluga XL will operate from 11 destinations in Europe. #techthatmatters #aviation #transport #technology #aircraft #airbus #innovation #future #adamdanyal

10.01.2022 Did you know Charleville Airport became part of the United States of America in 1942 when the site was handed over to the USAAF as a top secret site during World War II? 10.01.2022 WhatWas Geelong - Geelong in WW2 the America servicemen at North Shore At the commencement of World War II in September 1939, much of the local Geelong industry... was placed on war footing. Two thirds of the newly opened International Harvester was commandeered by the R.A.A.F. and an ad hoc airfield was established. The U.S. Air Force arrived shortly thereafter. The presence of American servicemen has left an enduring impression on the North Shore community. Their arrival was the cause of much local excitement, particularly among the children who made a pretty penny running errands for them. They were also a hit with the ladies, who enjoyed a social dance at the local community hall. The story of the American presence in North Shore remains largely untold, and the reflections of local residents provide a fantastically rare insight into a unique period in Victorian history.
