21.01.2022 Meet Willow, the gorgeous Labradoodle puppy. She loves walks with her mum and running through the grass. Unfortunately on her walk this morning, Willow came across a tiny grass seed that made it's way into her ear causing her discomfort and distress. Grass seeds have tendrils that give them the ability to burrow into skin and tissues causing pain, irritation and sometimes infection. They can rupture ear drums and track great distances under the skin. The most common places to see grass seeds are in the ears, between the toes and in the armpits and groin. They are more commonly a problem in fluffy or longer haired dogs. If you walk your dogs in areas where grass seeds are found, it is important to check your dog after every walk for grass seeds and remove them from the coat before they cause any issues.
20.01.2022 We had our CT scanner up and running today with little Pirate coming in for a scan of his spine. Because he needed to be really still for the procedure, Pirate was put under general anaesthesia. CT machines scan 360 degrees around the body in multiple slices and gives you more detailed images then plain radiographs. The images can be looked at one by one or as a 3D image of any body part. It is a great diagnostic tool when looking at both bone and soft tissue structures in our furry patients.
19.01.2022 Little Luna came to visit our emergency team this week after her owners came home to find her with a very bloated abdomen. After a quick xray to check why her tummy was so swollen, emesis was induced producing almost a kilogram of food! We hope you feel better Luna but remember, everything in moderation
19.01.2022 Pumpkin spent a couple of nights with our emergency team after developing severe ulceration on her tongue. This smoochy girl just loved belly rubs and was happy with all the attention she could get.
16.01.2022 The gorgeous miss Pippa has spent a couple of nights with our emergency team this week. Between cuddles with our staff and sitting on the couch, I'm not sure she touched the ground!
15.01.2022 Paul came in today to see Dr Joycelyn Tran, one of our specialist surgeons from our partner clinic Advanced Vetcare. He required surgery on his nares and a soft palate resection to open up his airway. Paul came through his surgery with flying colors and will spend the night recovering with our emergency team. Our specialist surgeons operate from Geelong Animal Emergency every Monday. For appointments, phone the clinic on 5222 2139
09.01.2022 Nellie stole a bone from her sister a few days ago and unfortunately it got lodged in her oesophagus meaning she couldn't eat and felt unwell. Nellie was transferred over to see Dr Scott for Endoscopy to remove the bone from her oesophagus without having to perform painful and invasive surgery. The procedure went well and Nellie popped in to say hello the next day. We are glad to see her happy and enjoying her food again.
09.01.2022 When you try and steal your big sisters treats and she tells you off... Bringing a new puppy into the household has it's own challenges. We are so glad Wolfy got away with a couple of superficial injuries.
07.01.2022 "We wish you a safe Easter at home! Remember to keep the chocolates away from your doggy family members If you need us, our Emergency Centre is open 24/7 over the Easter long weekend. To brighten up our weekend, we would love to see any pictures of your pets dressed up in costume if you want to post in the comments below!"
03.01.2022 Harry came to visit us overnight after eating a skewer and developing a sore tummy. He has surgery to remove the skewer and was happy to see his family and go home this morning. Skewers usually have a sharp end and can cause a lot of damage if swollowed. If you enjoy a skewer on the BBQ, make sure you dispose of the stick carefully, where your clever canine cant get it.
01.01.2022 Tiny Coco came to visit us after having a fall. After some medication and lots of cuddles, she is happily back home where she belongs
