24.01.2022 VET CLINIC | DESEX SPECIAL Our Vet Clinic is offering heavily reduced cat desexing prices! WHEN: 23 Nov 18 Dec 2020 ... WHERE: GAWS Vet Clinic [325 Portarlington Hwy. Moolap] HOW MUCH: Males: $50 Females: $100 Call 5248 2091 or email [email protected] to book. As a responsible cat owner, the most precious gift you can give your cat is the gift of being desexed. It truly is. As an animal welfare organisation, we are about to enter into one of our busiest times kitten season. To see so many unplanned litters arriving, it reminds us that it’s time to get to work within our community and help as many cats get that precious gift and get them desexed. Who’s with us? Snip snip HOORAY! Still on the fence? A kitten can start breeding from as young as four months of age. This also means that from four months of age, the urge to roam, display aggression, mark territories, spray and display mating behavior can occur. Desexing your cat also greatly reduces the risk of many diseases and illness such as mammary cancer, uterine infections in females and prostate problems in males. Although desexing at an early age ensures a rapid recovery, your cat is never too old to be desexed. The pre and post operative care may differ but our vet team will be sure to discuss this with you when booking. Ready to book? Now’s the time! Help us get the word out and tag and share this post....

20.01.2022 FUR-REAL GOOD STORY | BEBE This week’s ‘fur-real good story’ looks a little different to our usual, but it packs a whole lot of good feel punch! We recently had a stray cat brought in that was found in Leopold. As per protocol, the cat was scanned for a microchip and that delightful ‘beep’ was sounded by our scanner.... This cat indeed had a microchip and upon further investigation, the cat had been flagged as ‘missing’ on their chip. The cat’s owner was contacted immediately and notified that their cat was safe at GAWS. Within 24 hours of being brought in, this cat’s family was on their way to pick up their missing much loved, cat. What a happy reuniting that was about to occur. Okay, you say Isn’t that what GAWS does every day? What is so special about this cat? Well you see, this cat - ‘Bebe’, had actually been missing for over 3 MONTHS! we are so happy to have her home. We had posters up on every pole around Geelong West and checked all the vets and GAWS page every day looking for her. We worked out she had been missing for 3 months. My son doesn’t like sleeping on his own and Bebe always slept on his bed with him so for her to go missing was really heart breaking. We are just so happy to have her home. This fur-real good story highlights many important points of how doing all the right things, made it possible for Bebe to be reunited with her family. Bebe was microchipped, the contact details for her family were all up to date, her family placed a note of Bebe’s microchip that she was missing and the member of public brought her in making it possible for the chip to be scanned. It is very important that if you do find a stray animal, to hand them into your local vet or GAWS ASAP so that there is the best possible chance of reuniting the animal as quickly as possible.
20.01.2022 FUR-REAL GOOD STORY | TOMMY This week we are checking back in on a gorgeous boy named, Tommy. Tommy found himself at GAWS earlier this year and managed to find his happily ever after with the touch of his paw.... Here is what Tommy's fur-mum had to say about their journey finding each other. "After I lost my Border Collie girl to cancer in March, I was heartbroken. It took me about a month to return to GAWS (to volunteer) without bursting into tears at the sight of dogs. Upon my return, Tommy had just found himself at GAWS and in need of a new home. I'd like to say I adopted him, but honestly, he chose me. I asked him if he would like to come home with me, and he leaned in, looked into my eyes, and lifted his paw to my shoulder. I guess you could say the rest is history. Ever since I adopted him, he has proven himself to be the kookiest, cuddliest, goofball of a boy. He loves playing soccer and tug-a-war, his stuffed toys, chasing birds, greek yogurt, raw veggies, and playing with his friends every day at the dog park. My partner and I are so grateful to have him in our life! Thank you GAWS!"

17.01.2022 FUR-REAL GOOD STORY | ANNIE This week we are checking back in with a Graduate, Annie! Adorable Annie found herself in need of a new home and a fresh start earlier this year and we were put to work to find her match.... It didn’t take us long until we found it and off Annie went try her luck with her fresh start. Like most, Annie had a few obstacles to overcome, but with her committed owner, it looks like she is thriving and we couldn’t be happier for her. Annie's really thrived being a bachelor's dog and she has been able to adjust to city life very quickly and overcome her problem areas. My last dog, who passed away in April was an amazing life companion and it was always going to be tough shoes to fill but Annie's is fantastic and we are bonding very well. She loves her daily walk to Footscray’s busiest dog park on Essex Street, loves the wait to cross the road game, obeying all of her commands on her walk and especially loves her bedtime! It sounds like Annie has really adapted to city life and ‘happily ever after’ sure looks good on her. If you have your own ‘GAWS Fur-real Good Story’ we would love to hear from you!

16.01.2022 FUR-REAL GOOD STORY | RUBY & KEVIN This week we are checking back in on Ruby and her sidekick Kevin, that found themselves at GAWS in October last year. As a ‘bonded pair’, being rehomed together was a must so we set out to find them the best suited home. As you can imagine, it didn’t take us long to do and off this dynamic little duo went to start their new life.... Here is what their fur-mum had to say about them: It's been just over a year now since we adopted our two dogs Kevin and Ruby from GAWS. When we adopted them on Melbourne Cup day in 2019 we had no idea just what was ahead of us. They have been a Godsend throughout 2020 while we have been working from home. Zoom meetings were a lot more enjoyable with Kevin asleep on my lap with his head resting on my desk. And breaks were much more fun when I could go out into the yard and throw the ball around to Ruby. They are both amazing dogs with such different personalities, but are both very affectionate and everyone who meets them loves them. They definitely keep us busy and bring lots of cuddles and laughs to the house. Everyone in my family now couldn't imagine our lives without them. We are all very thankful to GAWS for the hard work they put in rehoming and caring for all the animals that need it in Geelong. If you have your own GAWS fur-real good story, don’t forget to send it through to us, either our Facebook inbox or email [email protected].

11.01.2022 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION | BONDED PAIR What could be better than one cat you say? Two cats of course! Meet Hank and Milo! These boys are a bonded pair and we are seeking a special home for them together. If you're looking for your instant ready made family, these two could just be it! ... Here's their story....... Hi, we're Hank and Milo, two bonded brothers who have lived together for around 6 years. We have a love/hate relationship that will keep you entertained forever! We are fiercely independent and will happily sleep all day but regularly come and check in with your patting machines (aka hands) to see if they are still functioning, we just might be a bit shy at first. As 6 year old cats, or 54 year old men in your human terms, we do life how we want. Lot's of chilling out with a healthy mix of playtime fun. We will entertain you with the way we play together and chill together, we will run around like lightning having a ball together, playing with toys on strings or anything that looks remotely fun. Oh and scratching posts, yes please! We would prefer a relaxed household and probably without any dogs or small children. After all, we are the masters of the universe and you are our humans. ******** Hank loves belly rubs and being brushed and will ask for this quite regularly. Hank even likes to be picked up like a baby and have his belly stroked and chin scratched. Won't take long for Hank to make you his slave. Hank sometimes likes a lap cuddle but mostly likes to be right next to you for cuddles. Oh and Hank LOVES his food. Milo on the other hand may take some time to warm up to you and it will be on his terms, a quiet space to get used to you would be best. But once he does he will have you under his spell. Milo loves to sleep on your lap when he wants to and adores attention and pats. Milo is super playful and instigates a lot of the sibling fun but can be a bit shy with humans. Milo may need some quiet time with his food cos his brother is a guts. If these two boys are pulling on your heartstrings and you think you can offer them the home they deserve, please send in a cat adoption questionnaire located on our website, mention their names and email back to [email protected]. Their adoption fee is $150 for the pair. https://www.gaws.org.au/page/76/cats Hank - Pet ID51413 Microchip #956000013003914 Milo - Pet ID51414 Microchip #956000013011270 BR102648 DAB-45, CoGG

07.01.2022 FUR-REAL GOOD STORY | COOPER This week we are checking back in with a graduate from 2019. Cooper here not long ago celebrated his 1st 'gotcha day' and by the looks of things, he has had a lot to celebrate!... Here is what Cooper's family had to say about his first year with them: "We adopted Cooper a little over a year ago from GAWS, and couldn't be happier with our boy. He fit in with our family instantly, and very quickly became our loving companion. He absolutely adores my fiance and me, and is extremely affectionate and cuddly with us both. He also shares a very special bond with our children aged 21, 17, and 7. He is loyal and very protective of us and our home, and we can leave him inside whilst we duck to the shops, without fear of him ever destroying anything. He is absolutely perfect, and my fiance says she can't believe she could ever love a pet as much as she loves him. We've taught him a bunch of new tricks on top of what he already knew, and his intelligence just amazes me! He is such a quick learner! Thank you for allowing us to become his forever home. We are absolutely blessed to have Cooper as a part of our family!" If you have your own GAWS fur-real good story, don't forget to send it through to us. We adore updates on our graduates! It's recommended that Lexi be the only pet in the home and would be best suited to a family that is home more often than not. As Lexi is a greyhound she is not to be rehomed with children under 12, cats or pocket pets. If you think you may be able to offer Lexi her perfect forever home or would like to learn more about her, visit our website or in person at our Moolap facility. You can apply to meet Lexi by filling in and submitting a 'Dog Adoption Application' form online, and a member of our team will get back to you. https://www.gaws.org.au/page/75/dogs Pet ID: 52069 Microchip: 956000005577011 Source ID: BR102648 DAB-45, CoGG

05.01.2022 CAT ADOPTIONS | LONG TERM RESIDENT Meet India At just 5 years of age India is a long term resident here at GAWS having arrived in November 2019. That's nearly one year and this girl deserves to find her happy ever after before that milestone!... India was surrendered by her previous owner and came to us shy and untrusting of humans. Are you cat savvy? She's still very shy and will run away from you if you approach her too quickly, she may even give you a slap if she feels insecure. India isn't a fan of being picked up or handled so she's needing a home where her owner will give her the time and patience she needs to settle in at her own pace. India loves her food! The way to this girls heart is through her stomach! Although she's known to have put a little weight on since her stay so you'll need to keep an eye on that. India is great with other friendly cats but is showing a lot of confidence on her own too. Perhaps a friendly feline could help her gain her trust in humans. India is scared of noise and new people so she'd need a home without children and too much activity. Have you got the home this girl is looking for? We'd love to hear from you if you do! India's adoption fee is $25. If you think you'd like to meet her please complete a cat adoption questionnaire located on our website and email it to [email protected] INDIA PET ID 32277 MICROCHIP #956000006099467 BR102648 DAB-45, CoGG

With his rugged good looks, we know you'll all see the beautiful, sweet, affectionate boy we have grown to adore in the shelter. Gorgeous George is looking for a home without dogs or small children as he has been known to give the occasional love bite. He is active, friendly and would love nothing more than a cat tree to scratch and spend time up high watching the birds outside. As Gorgeous George has a very pink nose he will need to be kept indoors to protect him from the sun.
