22.01.2022 Please take the time to look at this video, it is a project I initiated for the Geelong Falcons as a response to the fact that 4 young lads took their lives in in Geelong in the last few months. Support and connectedness is the way we can help young men to stay centered when challenges present themselves and I want to work with them to understand that. #therapy #geelong #torquay #therapythatworks #geelonganxietyandwellnessclinic #healthyyoungmen #geelongfalcons #anxiety# depression #pickabrotherup
22.01.2022 More and more I am realizing how important being supported is. Not only do we need to feel supported we also must be able to be self supported. We need to develop a sense of confidence and self esteem that allows us to realize our dreams and a sense of freedom. So how do we develop this special quality ?? We offer support to others unconditionally. Its through the doing we receive the giving.
18.01.2022 Hi everyone, I thought I would like to express something thats been concerning me a little. For those of you who are familiar with the way the brain functions, you would be aware that our thoughts, our internal narrative and the associated pictures we create from that (our visualizations) determine to a large extent the reality we create in our lives. Our subconscious mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. This is why people experience ...vastly different realities even though many aspects of their lives and the opportunities that are presented to them are similar. Its also why some people can remain calm in panic inducing situations, or why some of us see positivity even when challenged with overwhelm end difficulty. In this unusual time we are all passing through together, it is important that people promoting their businesses on social media and other platforms and in particular the allied health industry do not continually reinforce in peoples minds how anxious people are in this environment when marketing their services. Please note the word continually in the last sentence, in my opinion continued repetition is important to acknowledge. I know this is contentious and there will be some kickback by very well intentioned well trained therapists, BUT if you believe in the statements in my opening paragraph then as therapists we have an obligation to Not add to what may be an already difficult situation for some by validating their anxiety with high repetition posts reinforcing how dramatic our situation is to generate turnover.Clearly (even if its true) when we state over and over again that these are stressful, traumatic anxious times you are reinforcing the internal narrative and associated imagery that some people have created to become anxious in the first place. Each time a business/ service regardless of its intent, reinforces into the market place how difficult and anxious we all are, even if they are promoting well intentioned actions, we dig the hole we are all trying to climb out off a little deeper. It seems evident to me that that the media with its high repetition, trauma inducing headlines are the main contributors influencing public sentiment and opinion at this time. But Its probably pretty important that we the people entrusted by the community to deliver mental health programs do not contribute to the problem. This creates for us a wonderful opportunity to reframe our services in such away as to deliver community strengthening inspirational motivational posts that help people internalize a positive attitude to difficulty. 17.01.2022 To live with anxiety and trauma related pain means that every day you have a weight you carry with you. It can manifest in so many ways and can be literally intolerable. Self sabotage, addiction, panic, eating disorders and all the rest . If you know someone in that position give them the gift of therapy this Christmas. A bottle of perfume loses its effect, but smelling the roses never does. www.geelong anxiety and wellness clinic .com

14.01.2022 So WELCOME to my new page for Geelong Anxiety and Wellness clinic. My new web page is now working so you can find out heaps more info there www.geelonganxietyandwellnessclinic.com PLEASE like me and share with relvent others, to help spread the word. I suppose this moment in time is a culmination of a huge amount of personal dvelopement and hard work for me. Its nearly 6 yrs since I started on this journey and I can honestly say it has changed me greatly.... Most importantly its both the privilge and responsibility that comes with doing this work that has impacted me so greatly, to sit with someone and witness their bravery and vulnerability is without doubt a very humbling, and at the same time motivating experience. Facilitating change in another human being is profoundly complex given each of us has around 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 neural synaptic connections all wired uniquely together to reflect our individual preferences, beliefs , histories, families, cultures and experiences. In the face of this as a Therapist it seems to me a complete nonsense to assume we know how another processes there experiences, and its irresponsible to guess. Its sitting with the uncertainty of not knowing, but feeling completely confident in our clients to connect into their own experiential reality, and subconscious processing that the magic happens. Moving forward I hope to be able to offer you all some insight and inspiration through these social portals, some stuff you will already be familiar with, some you may not resonate with, but hopefully you will find enough content to keep you connected and interested in better understanding who and how we are. 07.01.2022 I want to talk a little about normal. One of my heros at the moment is a man named Gabor Mate he is a beautiful soul who is acclaimed around the world for his wonderful work with trauma and particularly trauma affecting young people. Trauma is a problem most of us will experience in our lives and while we all avoid it like hell, its surprisingly common. To my mind, it is the single biggest threat currently facing western society. Gabor has written a beautiful piece on NORMA...L in a speech given in England recently titled, We are all in the same boat. In most cases what we call Mental illness is really a person responding to and processing trauma. Greta Thunberg has a diagnosed mental illness, and apparently Donald Trump is perfectly normal.....go figure. Responding to trauma in our lives can be painful, difficult and at times overwhelming. But with all its manifestations like addiction, grief, anxiety, panic and stress its our best attempt at dealing with it and in that context its normal. Mostly for those of you who may be interested, the greatest impact on us when we experience trauma, is on our central nervous system. Its job is to regulate us , but when we cant process the pain out,we hold it in a sort of encapsulated form, to work on another day. When we become triggered by some event our behaviour is noticed as abnormal. As if there is some baseline of behaviour we must all attain. Its nonsense and the sooner we realise there is no such thing, the better off those of us; ie most of us will be. For those of you struggling with Trauma and its insidious side effects like addiction, anxiety, depression and so on you need to know they are all normal responses to trauma. You are normal...its treatable...and you should be proud of those efforts you have made to shield yourself from the pain it causes you. Dont carry the labels, put them down and find someone who can guide you through. If this resonates with you Please pass this on and share with someone struggling through difficulty. Please Note : Gabor Mates full speech is posted on my new website which should be fully operational by early next week please take a look if you get the chance www.geelonganxietyandwellnessclinic.com
07.01.2022 For those of you unfamiliar with Brainspotting let me help a little with these insights.Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic model for helping people with a range of challenging issues relating to difficult past experiences . It can help Anxiety, Stress, Behavioural issues, All kinds of Trauma from Injuries/ Accidents to situational and early life trauma, PTSD, Anger and quite a bit more. Brainspotting is an intense form of focussed mindfulness but it is done with a therap...ist as a guide and usually relates to something the client is having difficulty with. The work focuses on the Limbic Brain and the associated Autonomic nervous system. People suffering from the issues listed above have dysregulation in that part of the brain and their central nervous system. By finding an activated spot to look at we can access the parts of the Limbic brain hold the trauma and return it back to a homeostatic state though a client/ patient shared experience. It is not so much about psychology but rather physiology. Its physical, and is sometimes referred to as Physio therapy for your brain or Somatic processing. If talk therapy is not helpful to anyone you know in this situation contact Geelong Anxiety and Wellness Clinic through our Website and have a more personalised chat with our fully accredited therapist . www.geelonganxietyandwellnessclinic.com
07.01.2022 How amazing is this. This photo is a picture of a section of your genome, EVERY CELL in your body has this structure encased in it. 22,000 pairs of genes. So every time you learn something new, every time you practice doing something different which leads to change or growth. It is reflected in some sort of modification of this tiny little structure in EVERY CELL in your body. So the next time you change a behaviour this process is happening on a cellular level
