24.01.2022 TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) TENS is a method of labour pain relief involving the use of a hand-held device connected to electrodes placed on a mother’s back. When using the TENS, women experience a tingling sensation around the site of the electrodes.... The electrical impulses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal cord and brain, which may help relieve pain and relax muscles. They may also stimulate the production of endorphins, which are the body's natural pain relievers. Have you considered using a TENS machine for natural pain relief in labour? TENS machine hire is available at Geelong Born. Reserve yours now via the website. Free drop off and collection in the Geelong area. #tens #tensmachine #labourtens #tensunit #geelong #midwife #torquay #armstrongcreek #belmont #hypnobirthing #geelongborn See more

06.01.2022 Great info via @peacewithbirth How your cervix changes Dilation takes centre stage when we think of the progression of labour. Dilation is basically the last thing that happens to your cervix and there is so much work that needs to be done before that will even happen. Your cervix is the neck to your uterus, think of it like a turtle neck sweater. When you pull a turtle neck sweater over your head you need to first pull down and shorten the fabric otherwise you would be w...alking around with the length of the turtle neck covering your face. In labour terms this shortening is called effacement and this needs to happen before the cervix can even open past 4cm. All of your early labour is helping to soften, bring your cervix to a forward position and shortening the length. Once your cervix is short almost paper thin then dilation will occur at a more rapid pace. Having an internal examination is not a crystal ball but hopefully this little bit of information takes the pressure off of dilation. #effacement #dilation #informedbirth #geelong #midwife #hypnobirthing #birthprep #birthclass

05.01.2022 CAESAREAN BIRTH How amazing are these photos of a baby born via caesarean. The emergence captured in incredible detail. Notice how the drape has been lowered so the parents can see the birth of their baby Brilliant photography by @monsmakingmemories Posted @withregram @monsmakingmemories My first caesarean that I was lucky enough to photograph #caesarean #caesareanbirth #positivebirth #positivecaesarean #childbirtheducation #hypnobirthing

02.01.2022 Whenever you're offered a medical test, take a moment to consider what will happen with the information gained from it. Is this something you're happy with? ... Could a particular result limit your options in any way? (If a screening test shows that you are carrying group B strep bacteria, have gestational diabetes or have a higher-than-average BMI, for instance, you might be told that you can't birth where you wanted to.) What are the alternatives? (There are always alternatives, including declining the test.) Always remember it's your decision. You can say 'yes' or 'no' or 'I need time to think about this.' If you'd like to know more, or to better understand some of the wider issues around making decisions in pregnancy and childbirth, take a look at my book, "What's Right For Me?" It's written to help women, parents and families to better understand how modern maternity care works and how you can make the decisions that are right for you. 01.01.2022 The birth energy and excitement is wearing off as new reality is setting in. Those first hours and days after birth I felt like absolute magic. My body! This power! ... Harnessed for a common cause. But as the excitement wears away, tucked away in its moment in time, my mind wanders to thinking of the body I once had before this. That doesn’t make me anything but human. To know that now is the time to let go of, grieve and thank that body, then process and honour and truly enjoy this new one. My body. That still and forever holds this power.
