22.01.2022 Which one would you choose - the or the ?? Did you know the choices you make daily in what you eat could be contributing to your back pain? Many foods have been shown to reduce (or increase) inflammation, a known cause for back pain.... So when you have pain, changing your diet to an anti-inflammatory diet is one of the many strategies you could apply to help. Foods to eat: Brightly colours fruits and veges like carrots, beets or berries Chia seeds and flax seeds and their oils Omega 3 rich seafoods like salmon or sardines Herbs and spices like tumeric and ginger Avocados, walnuts and Brazil nuts Foods to avoid: Any processed foods like white bread, sugary drinks, fried foods or biscuits Nightshade foods might affect some people including tomatoes, eggplant or white potatoes Alcohol.YES booze! Cooking with canola oil, grapeseed oil, vegetable oil or margarine Want to learn more? Come along to our seminar Thursday 27th May @ 7:30pm here at Geelong Chiropractic . 21.01.2022 Part 2 on how the Infrared Sauna can benefit you: Relieving Stress & Muscle tension - Regular sessions in an infrared sauna have shown to help regulate the levels of cortisol (the pesky stress hormone) in the body, reducing stress and anxiety while encouraging it to release more serotonin and natural endorphins to reach complete relaxation. This relaxation extends to the muscles in your body as your tissue warms up, increasing the range of motion in your joints and muscles ...and helping to let go of tension. Detoxifying your body - It's a well known fact that sweating is a vital way for your body to shed toxins, chemicals, and heavy metals. As our body increases temperature and metabolic rate to fight off viruses and bacteria and purge them from our systems, infrared saunas help to simulate similar temperature conditions to trigger the body's natural immune response and detox. 19.01.2022 At Home Spinal Mobility! Cervical Traction What is it? ... Essentially, cervical traction pulls your head away from your neck to create expansion and eliminate compression throughout the spine. Research has shown that performing 3-5 min of a 'cervical traction' regime provided symptomatic relief in 81% of the patients with mild to moderately severe cervical spondylosis (age-related degeneration of the spinal discs). (1) Guidelines 1. Start with a realistic timeframe, 1-2 minutes and build up, not 5 from the outset. 2. Listen to your body, if you're finding any of the listed progressions uncomfortable regress. 3. When completed, use the hands to support the head and roll to the side! (Our head is quite heavy, let's avoid injury to a muscle). 1. Swezey, R. L., Swezey, A. M., & Warner, K. (1999). Efficacy of home cervical traction therapy. American journal of physical medicine & rehabilitation, 78(1), 30-32.

18.01.2022 Its time for TASTY THURSDAY!! Add the cauliflower to a processor and pulse until the texture resembles rice. 2. Heat a large frying pan and add the ghee or coconut oil. Add the chicken and cook until golden. Once cooked through, remove the chicken and place in a bowl to rest. 3. Add the cauliflower rice, kale, chilli, lime juice and zest to the frying pan and stir through all ingredients. Cook for 1 min. 4. Add the chicken back to the cauliflower rice mixture and stir through. Do not overcook the cauliflower rice, you still want this to be firm but slightly cooked. 5. 15.01.2022 MYTH #1 CALORIES ARE ALL THAT MATTER! Are you sick of counting calories? Well here are 6 Reasons Why a Calorie Is Not a Calorie........ Fructose vs Glucose- Even though fructose and glucose provide the same number of calories, fructose has far more negative effects on hormones, appetite and metabolic health. The Thermic Effect of Food- Protein calories are less fattening than calories from carbs and fat, because protein takes more energy to metabolize. Protein Kills Appetite and Makes You Eat Fewer Calories- Increased protein can lead to drastically reduced appetite and cause automatic weight loss without the need for calorie counting. The Satiety Index- Different foods have different effects on satiety and how many calories you end up consuming in subsequent meals. Low-Carb Diets Lead to Automatic Calorie Restriction- Low-carb diets consistently lead to more weight loss than low-fat diets, even when calories are matched between groups. The Glycemic Index- Studies show that refined carbohydrates lead to faster and bigger spikes in blood sugar, which leads to cravings and increased food intake. 14.01.2022 Have you been looking at booking the sauna every time you come in for your appointment, but you're just not too sure? Over the next few days we will go through how the Infrared Sauna can benefit you! Part 1: Better circulation & Cardiovascular health - Increasing your body's core temperature using infrared heat triggers your heart to work harder while trying to cool your body down. As your heart pumps away, it stimulates healthy and consistent blood flow throughout the body... without spiking your blood pressure, resulting in improved circulation and cardiovascular performance! Pain relief & faster injury recovery - Infrared saunas have been proven to be a great way to relieve pain caused by injuries or inflamed joints and muscles due to chronic conditions such as arthritis. The infrared heat triggers blood vessels to widen and pump more oxygen and blood to areas that need it most, helping to speed up the recovery process and provide effective pain relief caused by inflammation. To book your sauna for when we re-open on Thursday 18/02 call 5229 5620!

13.01.2022 Struggling to get back into the normal exercise routine after the silly season? Remembering the 5 R’s is a good way to help kick start those New Years resolutions! 1. Routine with exercise is critical - Adding exercise back into your everyday life can be tricky, however, pairing exercise with everyday tasks has been proven to improve adherence rates!... 2. Rest/recovery - Increase your rest days between exercise sessions for the first 2-3 weeks, this will allow your tissues time to adapt to the higher load you are placing on them. 3. Regulate sleep - Sleep is the best recovery tool available, it is also free and enjoyable! Make sure you’re getting at least 7-9 hours. 4. Refuel your body with healthy food choices - It is imperative that we fuel our bodies with the nutrients for an optimal recovery so we can return to our pre-holiday fitness levels sooner. 5. Refer to your health professional for any health concerns - Evaluation of where you're at personally regarding strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health to ensure you remain safe when exercising. Our EP Kale will be diving deeper into these tips over the coming weeks !
