24.01.2022 Members from our Brigade joined other brigades at Freshwater Creek today to assist with a fuel reduction burn. Perfect conditions and a great opportunity to put... our skills and training into action. Remember we’re still in the Fire Danger Period and restrictions are still in place. This burn was permitted under a Schedule 12 Pernit. Thanks Freshwater Creek CFA for having us along today. 22.01.2022 The weather isn’t going to stay this nice for long. A warning from our local SES unit

22.01.2022 Before you go to bed on Saturday night, put your clock forward an hour and check your smoke detector.

21.01.2022 With Daylight savings finishing on Sunday morning, when you wake up and fix all your clocks, don't forget to check your smoke detector and change the battery. Check the date, if it's older than 10 years, then it's time for a new one.

21.01.2022 If you or someone you know works in or travels through a high bushfire risk area then it might be worthwhile watching this short video.

20.01.2022 A few weeks ago, Geelong City Fire Brigade members had the opportunity to participate in some mock live-fire training drills at Stonehaven CFA utilising the gas car prop. This prop allows our members to train within a safe and controlled environment whilst still having the experience of a realistic scenario with fire. We would like to give a special thanks to Wesley Monts Photography for capturing some photos whilst members were conducting the drill.... CFA (Country Fire Authority)

18.01.2022 Product Recall: Hyundai Motor Company Australia Pty Ltd Hyundai Tucson MY2015-2021 Due to a manufacturing error, an electronic control circuit board in the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) module will short circuit when the components are exposed to moisture. There is a risk of an engine compartment fire, even when the vehicle is turned off, as the circuit is constantly powered. This could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, othe...r road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property. 18.01.2022 St Albans Park, how well do you know fire? With a urban / rural interface in your area, some properties are located close to or among grass or paddocks Grassfires can be extremely dangerous - people can die in grassfires. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? Dry and brown grass that easily catches fire.... Grass more than 10cm tall will have a higher flame height and intensity. Faster burning than through forests as grass is a finer fuel. Radiant heat (the heat created by a fire). Fires that can start early in the day. Faster moving fires that travel up to 25 km per hour. Now is the time to prepare your property and also have a family meeting and discuss what you need to do should a fire start in your area. For more information, go to the CFA website. www.cfa.vic.gov.au

17.01.2022 Members from Geelong City spent approximately 9 hours on scene at this incident in Torquay pumping water from the dam. The crews arrived back at the station about 10am this morning before they went home for a well earned sleep.

16.01.2022 There’s a real wombat stew of emotions bubbling away for Victorians at the moment- with lashings of worry, frustration and disappointment in the mix. May we all have strong helpings of determination, resolve and hope too. We can do this.

15.01.2022 Its Spring now it’s time to prepare your property for the fire danger period Landowners and tenants should be preparing their properties well before the start of the Fire Danger Period. A lot of things can be done in the garden and around the home to improve the chances of surviving the impact of a bushfire or fast moving grassfire.... Now is the time to clean up leaves, twigs, bark and long grass around the home and farm properties as fires cannot be lit in the open air during the Fire Danger Period without a written permit from CFA or a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer. During the pre- Fire Danger Period clean up, if you plan to burn those piles of fallen branches, bark and leaves, call the VicFire Burn-off notification line on 1800 668 511 to avoid an unnecessary fire brigade callout. Once the Fire Danger Period has been declared in your municipality by CFA, lighting a fire in the open without a permit can attract a penalty of $17,000 and 12 months imprisonment. There are even greater restrictions for Total Fire Ban days due to the greater risk of fire. To view or download the Can I or Can’t I brochure, go to the CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au or call 1800 226 226

13.01.2022 A simple message but a very important one. Go straight home.

12.01.2022 Victoria Police is aware of a number of incidents over the weekend where people have deliberately breached the Chief Health Officer directions and are not weari...ng face coverings. Thankfully this selfish behaviour is an exception and the vast majority of people are doing the right thing to protect the health and safety of our community. However, the behaviour of those who blatantly choose to disregard the rules on the insistence their human rights are being breached is alarming. Worse yet, it seems these people are more interested in notoriety and getting likes on social media than the health and wellbeing of their fellow Victorians. My message to anyone planning to break the rules is simple: no one has a human right to infect other people and place the entire Victorian community at risk. In fact, this type of behaviour is childish and is completely unacceptable when police are working incredibly hard to keep the community safe. Victoria Police will continue to use the powers available to them under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 to enforce the Chief Health Officer directions. We will not hesitate to issue $200 fines to people who are obviously and blatantly failing to wear a face covering without a valid reason, such as a medical condition. Police also have the power to arrest people who choose not to wear face coverings and subsequently fail to comply with a police directive to provide proof of identity. Rick Nugent Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner, Regional Operations

12.01.2022 This morning, some of our members took the Tanker and FCV down to Point Henry on the weekly drive. The members took some happy snaps of the vehicles while the sun was shining.

11.01.2022 As we progress forward and hopefully out of these lock down conditions, Geelong City CFA Brigade is also gearing up for the warmer weather. Our wildfire preparation has commenced and it is a good time to remind our Geelong region community to start thinking about their own preparations. Stay safe all. Photo by Wes Monts

10.01.2022 Here are some photos of Geelong City Tanker through the years. Credit to the photographer who took the image is listed on the photo. Two of those trucks are still in service at Lovely Banks and Frankston. Our current tanker came to us from Deans Marsh.

09.01.2022 With the warmer weather only a few months away, we are preparing for the upcoming fire season and so can you. Now is the best time to clean up and prepare your property. 08.01.2022 Hey FB friends, we have another 'heads up' for you. This time it's about a weather event....read on and then pass on. Thanks. Severe We...ather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS for residents in parts of Central, South West, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts. Issued at 11:45 am Thursday, 6 August 2020. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 50 to 70 km/h, with peak gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h at higher elevations, are expected to develop about the Alpine peaks from late morning on Friday, and extend to southwestern parts of Victoria during the afternoon, reaching the Grampians by mid to late afternoon. 08.01.2022 Home again?! There’s no better time to start planning and practising your home fire escape plan. There are many fire hazards that may exist throughout the home,... and it’s important you know what to do if a fire breaks out. Families who are well-prepared are more likely to escape their homes safely and without panic.

08.01.2022 BURN OFF NOTIFICATION Further stubble burn offs are planned to take place this afternoon and evening in the Portarlington Highway/Clifton Avenue, Leopold area. Smoke and flames will be visible from surrounding areas while these burns are undertaken.

07.01.2022 From 11:59pm on Sunday 2 August, a face covering will be mandatory whenever you leave home, regardless of where you live in Victoria unless you have a lawful re...ason for not doing so. A face covering needs to cover both your nose and mouth. It could be a face mask or shield. There are a number of lawful exemptions for not wearing a face covering including if you have a medical condition or other condition that impairs your ability to wear a face covering, doing strenuous exercise or if you are unable to do your job while wearing a face covering. More information on the update to face covering rules is available here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/updated-restrictions-announced-

04.01.2022 Prepare your property now before it's too late. For more advice, go to the link in this post. How well do you know fire. Over the coming days, we will have more information to share.

02.01.2022 With the Summer season just around the corner and the days getting warmer, our members have been preparing and are ready. Question is, are you. Geelong City, how well do you know fire?

01.01.2022 The most important thing you can do if you have any symptoms is to get tested. After getting tested, immediately go home and wait for the results. Don't be tempted to go shopping or visit friends while you are out and about. Isolate at home until you receive your results.

01.01.2022 Fire Danger Rating for tomorrow in the Geelong area is Very High but that doesn't mean you can be complacent. Fires can still spread very rapidly and it is best not to undertake high risk activities tomorrow if they can be delayed until another day. In the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East and East Gippsland fire districts, a Total Fire Ban has been declared so if you are travelling into those areas, monitor the conditions and listen to local radio stations for more information.
