21.01.2022 A big welcome to Shane Dissanayake to the club. Shane joins us from Ashwood Cricket Club in Melbourne, the club that famously kicked off the careers of Dean Jones, Paul Reiffel and who could forget Adam Chunk Rolfe. Shane is a medium fast right arm bowler and hard hitting lower order batsman. He played 89 games with Ashwood taking out the bowling honours in the 2015/2016 season with best figures of 7/61 and a highest score of 100 no. Please join us in welcoming Shane to our club. Go Sharks.

19.01.2022 AN IMPORTANT CRICKET COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: We have been advised by the GCA that the number of GCUA umpires for the upcoming season will be significantly depleted whilst current COVID restrictions are in place. In order to shore up umpiring numbers, the GCA, along with the GCUA, would like to put a call out for expressions of interest from within club ranks (such as members, supporters and past players) to see if anyone is interested in being an umpire - at least in the sh...ort term... The GCA/GCUA are looking to recruit people who have a genuine love of the game, are prepared to undertake the Cricket Australia 'Community Officiating Umpire' accreditation (cost is $40.00, which the GCA will pay for) and are also prepared to work with senior GCUA umpires to demonstrate a knowledge of GCA playing conditions. If you or someone you know is interested please get in direct contact with GCA Secretary Peter Edwards at [email protected] OR contact the club and we will get you in contact with the GCA. 19.01.2022 The Geelong City Cricket Club would like to recognize the amazing contribution of R.K. (Richie) Oliver to our club over the past eight seasons. Richie has excelled on-field over this time, playing 97 games, scoring 5164 runs @ 55.53 including 21 x fifties and 20 x hundreds, with a top score of 203 not out against Highton in the 2013/14 season. Many of Richie’s innings will long be remembered by all those who witnessed them, drawing a crowd like no other City player before him.... He has bowled 388 overs, taking 49 wickets @ 27.96 with his best figures of 4/31. He has Captained the 1st eleven for the past seven seasons and represented the GCA in numerous successful country week campaigns. He has also been the head grounds man at the club and represented Geelong Cricket Club in the T20 district cricket competition. He has coached junior teams and has been the public face of our club over this time, often being the ‘go to’ person by local media on a number of cricket issues. Some of his other achievements are as follows: 2014/15 Div. 1 Jack Sing Medalist 8 x Jack McGowan Trophy winner 1st XI Best and Fairest 7 x Harry Heard Trophy winner 1st XI Batting average 7 x Club Champion Captain of the 2017/18 Geelong Advertiser T20 Premiers & Champions Captain of the 2nd Div. 2019/20 1st 11 Premiers 1st XI club record partnerships for the 1st wicket 180 runs (with Patrick Richards against Manifold Heights 2019/20) & 3rd wicket 201* runs (with Logan Taylor against Lara 2018/19) While these achievements are incredible, in many ways it has been the vast amount of friendships he has formed with not only the playing group but the extended club cricketing family and local community that will be considered his legacy. We would like to thank Richie for his incredible contribution to our club and wish him all the best with his future endeavors. He is always welcome back at the club and considered a Shark for life.

18.01.2022 The news that we all have been waiting for has arrived! Senior Cricket will kick off on the 31st October. The season ahead will certainly be a very different one and the committee has been busy making sure we are COVID ready. Our COVID Safe plan has been approved by The City of Geelong and with training starting tomorrow night it is important to reinforce the importance of our COVID plan commitments.... - If you have symptoms and are feeling unwell please stay away and get tested and remain isolated until your results are available. - When arriving at training you will be required to register your attendance, and also when leaving. - Masks are mandatory, unless you are batting, bowling or fielding. - Hand sanitiser liquid and wipes will be available at training and also throughout the clubrooms when open. - There is to be no sharing of equipment, players will be required to sanitise before any fielding drills start. When bowling in the nets or out at centre wicket practice no sharing of cricket ball will be allowed. No sweat or saliva is to be used on cricket balls. - Maintain a social distance of 1.5m. Our coaches and COVID officers will be keeping a close eye on the safety of all concerned both at training and on game day. Unfortunately at this stage supporters have been asked to stay away, but we look forward to the day we can get back to normal as a complete cricket club. GO SHARKS Womens and Junior updates to come. Thanks for all your understanding on these important issues. Graeme Beaumont.
