25.01.2022 GCCC Virual Race 23 results Newgrove Benchtops Eliminator 4km & 3km This was the first week of the virtual Newgrove Benchtops Eliminator. The entrants had to submit both a 4 km and a 3 km race time and handicapper Jeanette had the task of calculating the twenty best results to run in the final to be held in the coming week. With the shorter distances than usual, the pace was frenetic. When the times for the two distances were added together, it was former handicapper, Russe...ll Dmytrenko, who had the best adjusted time with newcomers, Charlie Henderson and Sarah Andrews filling the placings. Hayley Newman was the fastest female over both distances with Dan Wright the fastest male at 3 km and Liam Hanrahan the fastest over 4 km. Last week’s (and this week’s actually!) sponsor is Newgrove Benchtops, compliments of member Sean Blood. 16.01.2022 GCCC Intersport De Grandi 21.1 km & 5km Virtual Race Results We had 47 keen runners participated in the virtual running of the Intersport De Grandi half marathon and a further 27 the 5km. 4 intrepid athletes even did their run in the rain on Saturday. Victory went to life member and Geelong Half Marathon co-ordinator, Kevin McNulty who convincingly won from Mark Humphrey and Kurt Jungling. A distance specialist, McNulty regularly does his long run on Sundays around the Barwo...n River paths so yesterday's run was routine for him. Catherine Allison and Paul Posterino were the fastest of their gender. A consolation virtual 5 km for those who didn't fancy the long race attracted 27 contestants with last week's winner, David Simpson triumphing over running partner Jeff Walker and Liam Hanrahan who achieved fastest time Many thanks to our virtual sponsor Intersport De Grandi who are our longest serving sponsor having supported the club since 1981! We thank Damian De Grandi and his staff (and family) for supporting the club over the years, and their generosity just keeps on going - they have offered a $200 gift voucher to the winner of the Consistency Award which will be finalised in 2 weeks. Thank you Damian! Fastest times were most impressive (see below), in particular Catherine Allison who scooted around the 21.1km course in 1:25:03 which has all but sealed her Consistency Award win. 14.01.2022 Geelong Cross Country Club 2020 Virtual Season Race 24 Newgrove Benchtops 'Not-the-Eliminator' 2km Virtual Race Distance: 2 km... The top 20 on handicap in the 4 and 3 km races compete in the Final of the Eliminator. Everyone else competes in the Consolation 2 km Race. Handicap List for these races are attached. Course type: If possible, choose a flat course to mimic the Eliminator course (http://www.gccc.asn.au/index.php/event/eliminator-432km/ ). There will be no difficulty allowance applied this week so choose your course and conditions carefully, either a flat course or a point to point course (being mindful not to run a net downhill course!) This week's event promises to be a classic anti-climax to what has been an amazing and very pleasing virtual season. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were wondering how to cope without our own real season. The results are in the pudding! This week's sponsor will be our longest serving sponsor, albeit virtual this time around, Intersport De Grandi who has been with us since 1981! Many thanks to Damian De Grandi for his commitment and ongoing support of our club. As promised, we will be conducting a virtual Geelong Half Marathon this week, as well as our own 21,1km.
