25.01.2022 Posted @withregram @kiddieseyecare Chemosis is the swelling (or edema) of the conjunctiva. It is due to the oozing of exudate from abnormally permeable capillaries. In general, chemosis is a nonspecific sign of eye irritation. The outer surface covering appears to have fluid in it. The conjunctiva becomes swollen and gelatinous in appearance. Often, the eye area swells so much that the eyes become difficult or impossible to close fully. Sometimes, it may also appear as if ...the eyeball has moved slightly backwards from the white part of the eye due to the fluid filled in the conjunctiva all over the eyes except the iris. The iris is not covered by this fluid and so it appears to be moved slightly inwards. It is usually caused by allergies or viral infections, often inciting excessive eye rubbing. Treatment depends on the cause of the chemosis. #chemosis #conjunctiva #allergies #viralinfection #eyeinfection #optometrystudent #optometry #ophthalmologist #ophthalmology #oculista #eyemed #meded #medicalschool #medicaldoctor #medicaldoctor #orthoptist #eyeexam #eyedoctor

18.01.2022 Do you suffer from glare and migraines? A heartwarming testimonial from our lovely and very clever team member Madi (studying to be a lawyer ), and who recently turned 21 in iso. Be sure to ask us about our medical specialist tints that are assisting with migraines, dyslexia, glaucoma and other medical conditions. Madi has the found that this is the correct tint to reduce glare from fluoro lights and shopping centres and her migraines have disappeared. ... I am absolutely IN LOVE with my new lenses!! After years of persistent headaches and migraines primarily caused from eye strain, I have noticed a big difference in my vision in just a few weeks. I’m genuinely shocked by how the addition of the medical tint has assisted my eyes, and it’s bizarre how I forget I’m looking through a coloured lens throughout the day. Very thankful to Nicky and my amazing Kiddies team for your persistence with the needs of my eyes Thank you Maddi - and a happy iso 21st from us at Kiddies!!! #lensesmatter #goodsight #lawyer #bestoptometrist #staffofinstagram #yarravillevillage #yarraville #melbourne #geelong #australia #williamstown #spotswood #footscray #seddon #werribee #belmont #bellarine #supportlocal

16.01.2022 Does my child need surgery? Children need an urgent eye appointment as soon an eye turn is observed. Leading ophthalmologists quote that we have a 90 day window to spot this and action before children start developing a lazy eye. ... Esotropia in children and adults is a type of strabismus or eye misalignment. In esotropia, the eyes are crossed; that is, while one eye looks straight ahead, the other eye is turned in toward the nose. This inward turn of the eyes can begin in infancy or later in childhood.#esotropia #accomodativeesotropia #squint#squint #strabismus#strabismissurgery #optometry #optometrist #ophthalmology #ophthalmologist #eyeexam #eyetest

16.01.2022 Poor vision interferes with school and can lead to myopia. . How do you know if your child reads like this? This is how a child with eye teaming insufficiency sees. ! Unfortunately, 1 in 4 children have an undiagnosed vision problem that can lead to related delayed milestones and learning problems. For this reason, it is never too early to have your child tested at a behavioural optometrist. ... Every child deserves this chance. How would you know? 16.01.2022 Many of you know my little man, Andrew. Andrew has had an eye turn since the age of three and wearing +2.00 glasses to help straighten the turn. His glasses were effective and we loved seeing him wear them, but we also wanted to give him the opportunity to have straight eyes without them. Andrew had surgery in 2012 at age three to help his turn - it did, but unfortunately started to come back. In 2018, we went through the process - again. This was my little man two days post... his second surgery. He had unexpected swelling making his eyes both red but also incredibly painful and sensitive to light. He kept yelling at me telling me I broke [his] eyes. However - his eyes were straight! Fortunately, the swelling cleared up and his eyes remained straight. The squint surgery is one that many of our patients have done. I, too, have experienced it first hand. It is difficult and our little ones go through so much. Would I do it again? Absolutely. My little man now has the ability to choose whether he wants to wear glasses or not. As much as we love him wearing his specs, it’s an option he is lucky to have. For anyone with a child with strabismus, I am always happy to have a conversation about treatment options, including this surgery. #eyesurgery #squintsurgery #melbourneeye See more

08.01.2022 A commonly asked question I get is, if my child has 20/20 vision, why do they need an eye test and/or glasses? - Nicky Kiparissis, optometrist, writes about this in today’s blog. Unfortunately, sight isn’t actually an indication of how your child can actually use their eyes to read. Further specialised testing into vision and the coordination of the visual system allows us to identify your child’s vision and determine whether they need any support in focusing, accomodating ...or teaming... - 80% of what we learn is visually, so make sure your child has the right tools to be able to read well and without any strain! - Link available in bio. #kiddieseyecare #yarraville #geelong #kids #vision #kidsvision #kidsglasses #kidsspecs #geelongkids #geelongmums #geelongdads #geelongfamilies #aussiekids #learning #school #behaviouraloptometry #eyetest #geelongbabyandchildrensmarket

07.01.2022 It makes me so happy to see so many grandparents back to being part of their grandchildren’s lives. This wonderful Nona was amazing with little Axel while he had his eye test today. She knew just what to say and how to make him comfortable so that he had the best experience during his eye test. The last seven months have taught us to take every opportunity with our loved ones and not to take anything [air that we breathe] or anyone [friends and family ] for granted. 05.01.2022 At Kiddies Eye Care, we go beyond looking at eyesight and assessing Vision. If you have normal eyesight, it does not guarantee you have good vision. Our eyes have to perform many different and challenging tasks in our daily lives. Vision refers to what our eyes and brain make out of our surroundings and this is dependent on many things aside from eyesight. ... Binocular vision refers to how our eyes work as a team to make sure we see clearly and comfortably in all conditions. This is why we can have poor vision even though we may have normal eyesight. 05.01.2022 Have you heard of Visual Information Processing? Maybe you’ve come across it as: Visual Perception or Visual Perceptual Skills! This area of vision often explains why very bright students have trouble performing academically. It is when you know that your child’s effort is not translating into results. My favourite part of discussing the results with parents is when they say I knew there was something, but every other test was coming back clear and this makes so much sens...e now. Assessing a students VIP skills is important during primary school to strengthen the skills before high school. 01.01.2022 Great #alphabet #art by @linesacross Standard eye tests at most optometrist don’t always pick up on these issues. A Behavioural Optometrist will also assess how a child processes visual information, how the two eyes are teaming together and whether there are any visual related learning difficulties.... Children not only need good eyesight to see clearly, but an additional set of skills to assist with scanning and focusing, to help with their learning, including comprehension. If these skills have been poorly developed, learning not only becomes more difficult, but students most often react in one of the following ways: a) Avoidance of near visual work b) Reduced understanding of reading, c) Short attention span and focus d) Misbehaving in class e) Adaptations such as short sidedness or suppression of vision #behaviouraloptometrist #optometrist #melbourne #alphabet#abc #kidsoptom #kidsoptometrist #learning #dyslexia
