22.01.2022 What you see here are two very different types of steel which should never be galvanized whilst welded together. A 3mm thick angle section edge welded to a Universal Beam with a flange of 7mm. At the design stage there are things to be mindful of when galvanizing. 1 At 450 deg C the yield strength of steel (inc. welds) is temporarily lowered to approx. 50% 2 These 2 steel sections will expand in the bath at different rates 3 Once they are extracted from the molten zinc they will contract at different rates. It's pretty clear from the pics that the angle had already cooled down, while the UB was still going. Minimising section thicknesses will minimise the issue and possibility of distortion or in this case disconnection.

21.01.2022 We've been hard at work developing our fabrication skill set & competencies over the past year. With this goal completed, we have two trade qualified steel fabricators with decades of experience between them, leading a larger team of support staff in our fabrication division. This has allowed us to expand on our 25+ years of expertise in the supply of engineered steel columns for the retaining wall and noise wall market. As a back-up for our customer base, we’re now able to a...ccommodate you with custom fabrications, smaller revisions & variations that may occur at the 11th hour or after deliver to our site for paint or galvanizing processing. This add-on service can also mitigate or eliminate those hot onsite welds and OH&S compliance requirements. Ensuring welding compliance to ASNZS 1554.1. We can also supply shop drawings, steel and associated brackets, cleats and base plates as per your specifications. In essence, we're offering a turnkey fabrication and corrosion protection product, reducing costs via efficiencies in turnarounds, lead times and transport movements. For any of your small to medium fabrication requirements or enquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 03 5275 7555. See more

21.01.2022 We’d like you to meet Denis Coppe, our Sales Manager. Denis works across all divisions at Geelong Gal and has been with us for 15 years. His background is in lighting, Denis is a Lighting Engineer and previously worked as the Vic/Tas Sales Manager for Philips. He says that the shift to paint & gal was a massive cultural shift & it took him a couple of months to get used to not wearing a suit! However, Denis says his time has been exciting, challenging and rewarding thanks to ...the people he’s had the pleasure of dealing with and the diverse range of engineering and fabrication work that comes through the plant. One of his great interests is the opportunity to tour client’s workshops or worksites. It gives him a greater understanding of who they are and what they can achieve. He says The ingenuity, complexity and range of engineering we’re capable of in this country never ceases to amaze me. As our Sales Manager Denis sees himself as a bit of a mentor for sales staff and divisional managers, offering guidance and advice to assist in building strong relationships with our customers. He says that Ultimately, we want to exceed our customer’s expectations, through our understanding of their business needs and the service we can provide to them. Outside of work Denis loves having family and his grandsons around for a meal & a laugh. And then there’s motorcycles. Denis enjoys riding them as often as possible or just watching them race in any form. See more

21.01.2022 A double dip in progress as stage 1 of this project for another Frasers Property Australia development. We're working on these large scale bridge barriers with Randall Industries Next they'll head over to our Paint & Blast division for a PCCP certified, high-quality Duplex coating. Then it’s off to The Grove, by Werribee River for installation as more stages of this 167 hectare development are released to the public.

11.01.2022 Premier Speedway, Warrnambool hosts many of our state, national & international speedway events. They recently began the redevelopment of the corporate viewing area of the racetrack. Operating as a not-for-profit, Premier Speedway rely on donations of time and materials from both businesses and the general public, when developing their facilities. Geelong Gal & TetraWal were excited to be a part of this project, donating galvanizing on steel columns supplied by Red Ed’s Sheds for retaining walls and noise walls, along with the structural steel components for construction of the corporate viewing boxes. We’re looking forward to the next race guys!

04.01.2022 Our paint division has contributed to many of Victoria’s level crossing removal projects, including the Carrum Station project. This job features 8,000 square metres of bridge fins, specified in a 3-coat paint system, top coated with polysiloxane. A high-grade paint system was essential for the rigours of a coastal installation, with exposure to the corrosive effects of salt air. The project saw the removal of the Station Street level crossing and the opening of the new Carru...m Station, with shared walking and cycling paths to run for 15 km’s when complete. New open spaces will also a part of Carrum’s $50 million revitalisation, which includes the planting of over 80,000 species of trees to create more community amenity. The bridge fins add a bold architectural statement & we applaud our team’s dedication and collaboration to handle a project of this scale and deliver a high quality product within tight timeframes. 03.01.2022 Here’s an under-construction view of the Carrum level crossing removal project. The bridge fins have become a consistent visual across many of the 75 level crossing removal projects the Vic Government is undertaking. We worked with Macfab Engineering!! on this job, to deliver 8,000 square metres of painted fins, in Chestnut Brown. The fins form a compelling architectural statement. We’ll bring you more details of the job with finished pics of the project, which includes open community spaces & a village green.
