25.01.2022 Brought to you by the Geelong Cross Country Club, runaway from 2020 and into 2021 by taking part in the Virtual 5km Dawnbuster Fun Run. Usually taking place at the iconic Geelong Waterfront at dawn on 31 December each year, but after the year that 2020 was, we have taken this online! From Monday 28 December to Thursday 31 December, run your own 5km Dawnbuster your way and submit your time online to be in the chance to win some prizes.... Join hundreds of runners as they virtually take on this challenge raising funds for the Give Where You Live Foundation! 21.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that we are postponing the Geelong Half Marathon 5th April. The committee has not made this decision lightly, we are sure that you all can understand this decision given the current climate. Existing entrants will be emailed shortly with further information. Please stay tuned for the email and for an update on the proposed new date for the Geelong Half Marathon 2020. Thank you for your patience while we made this difficult decision. Keep those legs ticking over and take this time to enjoy running around our beautiful surrounds for the pure joy of running!

21.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hi everyone, Please read this update following our previous post regarding the postponement of the Geelong Half Marathon ...... We are pleased to announce that, rather than cancelling the event, we are moving it to Sunday September 13 2020 (This is subject to both us getting approval from authorities and the mass gatherings ban being lifted, our committee is staying up to date with developments in this area) Those already entered have the following options: a) remain entered for this new date (no need to do anything else...extra time for training!) b) receive a FULL refund (yes Full! despite incurred costs preparing for the schedule date we don't want to add to the financial strain many are under): or c) if you are seeking a refund you can donate some or all of your entry fee to the Barwon Health Foundation Andrew Love Cancer Centre at Geelong Hospital, and be refunded the remainder - https://www.barwonhealth.org.au/cancer-services/ For refunds and to make donations, please email us at [email protected] (do not contact via social media unless email is not an option for you) To enter the Geelong Half Marathon and 7 km Run for Sunday September 13 2020, go to http://www.gccc.asn.au/index.php/geelong-half-marathon/ The Geelong Half Marathon Committee is made up of volunteers from the GCCC so please be patient as we process refunds etc. Stay healthy, enjoy your running, and we look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday September 13. 20.01.2022 Congratulations everyone deserves a medal! As today would have been the original date for the Geelong Half Marathon we would like to thank everyone who had trained and were going to enter & support the event we are proud to run as a fundraiser for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre. A big thanks to all the volunteers who contributed their time and energy to organising the event so far. A huge shout out to our friends at Barwon Health and all other healthcare workers and essentia...l services for the incredible work they are doing throughout this crisis. AND thanks to everyone for following requirements to stay home! We all have a role to play in this crisis, be mindful that you are exercising in accordance with the most recent social distancing requirements and we will get through this! Thanks to everyone who shared their Geelong Half Mara virtual runs to keep spirits alive! If you have any pictures from your virtual runs please share with us in the comments and we will create an album We have our fingers crossed that 13th September will still happen and will keep you updated if there are any changes! The silver lining for today = we avoided the unfavourable weather! Well done to those who braved it!!

16.01.2022 Less than 5 weeks to go until the Geelong Half Marathon 2020! Our motivation for the Geelong Half Marathon event is to support the community, a significant amount of your registration will contribute funds to the Barwon Health Foundation for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre - last year we contributed $10,000! 15.01.2022 The Geelong Cross Country Club Committee has now decided The Geelong Half Marathon will be deferred until April 2021 (probably the Sunday after Easter which would be 11th April but stay tuned for the date!). Entries are closed, by deferring the event, we can give entrants the option of leaving their entry fee with us on the basis of running in April, or if requested, we will refund the entry fee, or if the entrant so desires, we can pass their entry fee on to Barwon Health a...s a donation. If we had cancelled the event, we would have had to refund all entry fees which total over $30,000! And Register Now charges for each transaction so the cost impact on the club would have been enormous. By deferring the event, we will hopefully only have to refund a minority of entry fees. Next April's event will still of course be subject to COVID-19 restrictions To lessen the blow of not having a Geelong Half Marathon this year, we will organise a Virtual Geelong Half Marathon in much the same way as we have for our virtual season. All current entrants will be sent a link inviting them to complete a half marathon in the week leading up to 13th September, and entering their results into a survey form. Results would then be made available on our website. There will be no charge and no prizes/giveaways which we believe will not detract from the event. Many runners will have been training for this and then possibly the Melbourne Marathon which is surprisingly still scheduled for 4th October! Remember you can also join our free GCCC Virtual Season! 10.01.2022 To everyone who had registered for The 2020 Geelong Half Marathon and 7 km Run. The virtual event begins today! You can do your run (21.1 km or 7 km) during the two week period Monday 7th to Sunday 20th September. We have emailed all registrants. This email detailed the relevant COVID-19 rules for your run, and includes links so you can enter the details of your run. ... Entry closes at 11:59 pm on September 20th. Results will be posted on our website www.gccc.asn.au . As this is a free event, there will be no prize money or medals awarded just bragging rights! As a special feature, results will include your age grading. This will show your speed relative to world-best for the distance for your age and gender. We are mindful those in the Melbourne lockdown may not be able to complete the half within 2hrs...hopefully you can complete the run in your backyard!
