23.01.2022 Standing ovations and love and gratitude to our Sweet Ads Heroes and their families who are keeping everything going in our 'new normal'. And to prove how grateful we are, let's wash our hands and stay at home with even more care and purpose than before! Thank you!
23.01.2022 Social distancing might mean that we can't get together and sing under the shade of the coolibah tree like we used to, but technology has come to the rescue! We loved bonding with our Sweet Adelines family over at Vocal Vibes Chorus and Melbourne Chorus and East City Sound to sing our very own maestro Morris's arrangement of 'that Austrian song', aka 'the waltz' aka Waltzing Matilda! Enjoy!
23.01.2022 Woohoo! It's been at least three days since she won some award or was recognised for greatness-of-barbershop-nerddom. Emily Moriarty is our pride and joy of our chorus and we're so proud of her. Congratulations, Emily. We reckon you're amazing! (Clever too!)

19.01.2022 Happy Easter! May it deliver all the love and significance and chocolate you wish for!
19.01.2022 Today we recognise and celebrate Labour Day and International Women's Day.
18.01.2022 This week's rehearsal had us all back in person again which is absolutely wonderful. Our quote of the night was from Michelle, encouraging us while breathing through our masks, to; 'take a snatch, take a snatch breath, and breath a snatch!'. Nothing like a bit of breath snatch flexibility. We had some awards presented this week.... Congratulations to our members who received longevity awards; Caz, Cynthia and Robyn (25 years), Judy (20 years), Anna-Marie, Michelle and Heather (10 years), Emily and Jenny (5 years). Not everyone is pictured but never you mind, we will be providing more photos! Stay tuned for Part 2 of this instalment. Alex and Anna-Marie received a big thank you from our Regional Management Team for all the work they do on behalf of Region 34. We also re-congratulated Jenny for winning our Sweet Adeline of the Year.
17.01.2022 We are now in our sixth month of Zoom rehearsals and we have an EXTRA special announcement just around the corner... WATCH THIS SPACE!
17.01.2022 So proud of so many of our Geelong Harmony singers who took part in this very special virtual performance tonight! They are performing 'Under Southern Skies' and tonight we celebrated the launch with a virtual Red Carpet event via Zoom. It was fabulous! #SweetAdelinesAustralia #SweetAdelinesStrong #Geelongsingers #acappellaharmony

15.01.2022 Have you booked your ticket for Geelong Harmony's virtual concert next week? Let the Sunshine In! is a joyful showcase of all we have been doing this year during our lockdown and Zoom rehearsals and sharing memories of some of the performances we've loved. Proudly contributing to the Geelong Seniors Festival, we look forward to bringing you our unique brand of a cappella harmony wherever you are in the world! #GeelongSeniorsFestival #SweetAdelinesStrong #GeelongHarmonyChorus #LetTheSunshineInVirtualConcert
15.01.2022 We’re so chuffed to help welcome our newest Aussies!!
15.01.2022 It's Monday and that means it's time for our virtual rehearsal! We are so lucky that we can keep the music going even in isolation
15.01.2022 This year, Anzac Day will be very different for so many of us. Dawn services will be happening from our own homes, in our driveways and at our gates, listening ...for notes of neighbourhood buglers or pipers playing laments and, of course, The Last Post. Or we will tune in via TV or stream a prepared coverage on our devices ... no on-site events for any chorus or quartet performances this year ... but, being Sweet Adelines, many of our choruses and quartets will have recordings of Anzac Day performances gone by to share with us. As we take the opportunity to be still with our own thoughts, this year's Anzac Day, share our music and may it be the most poignant, the most meaningful ever. For all that it means to you and your family and our country, we will remember them. #SweetAdelinesStrong #SweetAdelinesAustralia See more
13.01.2022 It's a wonderful time of year! Everyone at Geelong Harmony Chorus wishes you a very Merry Christmas!
13.01.2022 So, Geelong Harmony Chorus have wrapped up another fabulous year and put it under the tree! We’ve had a 2019 chock full of fun and laughter and we finished it off with a terrific get together last Monday. Not only was this our last get together for the year, it was also a cheerio to the very lovely Elaine B who, after 20 years as a GHC member, has decided to pull up stumps and retire from chorus. EB (as she is affectionately called by some of us) has been a wonderful contri...butor to our merry band of singers not only for her singing skills (all 4 parts over the years!) but has also been a fantastic support to chorus having been a most capable Treasurer, purchaser of music and sorter of copyrights. We will very much miss EB but will look forward to seeing her at gigs and at convention cheering us on from the audience. Thanks to our ever sparkling Director, Alex, our AD, Michelle, our AD in training, Emily, our Section leaders and, most importantly, our management team lead by Super Kellie. Merry Christmas, joyous holidays and happy New Year everyone.
12.01.2022 We are SO lucky to have these 3 talented humans! Every week on Zoom we have a "5 Minute" segment dedicated to a different skill. Michelle masterfully leads us in "5 Minutes of Vocal Skills", Emily expertly leads us in "5 Minutes of Musical Theory" and AJ awesomely leads us in "5 Minutes of Mindfulness" Sending best wishes to all those choruses going back to LIVE rehearsals and BIG LOVE to all those still meeting via Zoom!
12.01.2022 So good to have most of us back on the risers and our Maestro back in front and everybody all together again! Gosh, but we had all missed each other! Bushfire smoke and humidity tried to make things awkward but were dealt with and we sang loving birthday greeting via phone to our AMD Michelle Stow who's heading off to Directors' School this weekend and will be back on deck here before we know it! Our newly appointed AMD, Emily Moriarty is also Sydney-bound for Directors' Scho...ol too! Hope you two have the best time and that you have a wonderful time and get even cleverer than youse woz already! Quotes of the night are back too! "Take that Arrgh and give me an Ahhh instead" "Don't rubbish your Mum for not being up with tech. Remember, she's the one who taught you how to use a spoon!" Can't wait for next week. It's going to be fabulous.
12.01.2022 'Let the Sunshine In' is our online concert which is happening today, online, at 2.30pm! 11.01.2022 During our Virtual Rehearsal on Monday we were lucky enough to be treated to a visit by good friend and International Faculty Bec Hewitt as part of a program that brings in guest educators each month. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and humour with us, Bec!
09.01.2022 So last Sunday and Monday, we welcomed Queen Lynda Keever to coach us in all things musical. Lynda's been a friend of Geelong Harmony's for years now and it was great to catch up with her and catch up on all the news. Best of all, we'll get to see her again in April! Woohoo! Oh, and Emily Moriarty and Maestro Alex had some serious business to take care of in presenting our proudly "nerdiest nerd of all the barbershop nerds", EmM, with her certificate of achievement in passing her Level 2 SCRAP (Southern Cross Regional Arrangers' Program). Yay Emily!
08.01.2022 Tonight the Region 34 Regional Management Team shared a video to announce the cancellation of the Sweet Adelines Australia 2021 convention. We are saddened by the news but are proud of our RMT and appreciate the time and effort that went in to making this decision. Our Musical Director Alex Morris shared with us a video of his own and we are so excited for 2021 and all that this year will hold for our chorus and other singing groups around the world. ... #sweetadelinesstrong
07.01.2022 Ah, 2020, what a strange and complicated year you have been. December especially has been, well, weird. We couldn’t perform at our Carols by Candlelight, we missed out on doing our rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus, couldn’t go carolling and Santa-stalking at Geelong’s shopping malls but we aren’t leaving this year quietly As we race towards December 25 (and keep on going to the 31st and beyond) here is something to make things merry and bright! Let’s turn up the wattage and shine a light on that holiday spirit as we proudly present Geelong Harmony Chorus doing what they do best and loving it with Alex Morris' arrangement of BIG BULBS! Season’s Greetings to everyone!

06.01.2022 Here's the last pic we took at a rehearsal around this time last year; we think it was the night before lockdown! So much going on there and nobody can remember what! Great pic, though, ain't it?! And fast forward to tonight, back rehearsing on Zoom due to lockdown, we were reminiscing about last week's glorious in-person rehearsal and realised that something very important had gone unnoticed! It was (drum roll pleeeeease) our first-in-eleventy-months "Quote of the night"! Y...es. We had one! And then tonight we went and had another! Last week, after getting through our first song back in, like, forever, and finishing on pitch, maestro goes and says ... "Yes! We haven't lost our awesomeness!" And then tonight, in notices, our membership hunter-and-gatherer, explaining about our handy little plastic frames that we wear under our masks so we can sing more freely, tells us to think of them as... "your little silicon path to freedom". Yeah, you had to be there! (No really! You're always welcome, you know!) And we'll keep a lookout for more Quotes of the Night next week.
06.01.2022 GHC’s last sing out for 2019. Singing Christmas cheer is so much fun!
04.01.2022 Congratulations to Geelong Harmony Chorus's Sweet Adeline of the Year Jenny Rafter! Jenny has been the GHC Secretary for the past four years and provided the GHC management team dedicated and diligent support through a pretty tough year. Among the many glowing testimonials received for her from our members, Jenny has been described as "the glue that holds the chorus together"; she is always eager and happy to help, is a great cook and a delight to be around.... Congratulations to GHC's SAOTY, Jenny!
04.01.2022 From our family to your family. Stay safe in iso and remember to wash your hands! We're still rehearsing, online, of course, and can't wait to be back together on the risers and singing all together again. Happy Easter! #LifeOnAHighNote #SweetAdsInIsolation #SweetAdsAustralia
04.01.2022 We are Sweet Adelines and we're more than a little bit proud of who we are and what we do! Every chorus from our Sweet Adelines Australia region (known to its friends as Region 34 or Southern Cross Region if we're feeling formal) participated in this compilation of a beautiful four-part a cappella arrangement of Helen Reddy's iconic anthem, 'I am Woman'. Our video was filmed on the gorgeous Geelong Waterfront, and we were in our formal costumes having just performed at a Citizenship Ceremony at City Hall. We're so proud of what we do and all that we achieve within this amazing organisation. We are strong, we are invincible and we hope you love Sweet Adelines Australia's rendition of 'I am Woman' as much as we do! Here's the link: https://youtu.be/r_fgnW0jRvk #IamSweetAdelines
02.01.2022 The first virtual GHC rehearsal. Woo! So good to see everyone <3
02.01.2022 Last night we welcomed the inimitable Debra Griffiths (woohoo! *applause!*), REF and visual coach extraordinaire who kicked off our coaching-for-contest season by telling us (insisting, actually!) to continue our proud tradition of being silly and not being afraid to be unapologetically ourselves. We think we can do that for you, Debra! We might do it for us, too! Thank you for a fabulous evening of coaching. Quote of the night only one because we were concentrating on being silly... "When you sing that, there should be a butt lift moment!"
