25.01.2022 Coryule Sunday February 23rd Returning from our Summer Slumber (and everything that has happened since November!) We have the first Sunday Series Talk for 2020.... Suzy Zada will talk about the history of the historic house "Coryule" near Drysdale. This house was built for the Misses Drysdale and Newcomb and has passed through a number of owners since then. As usual, the talk will be held in the Strachan room of tthe National Wool Museum, Moorabool St Geelong at 2PM on Sunday 23rd of February. The format is a talk of approximately one hour duration and will be followed by a cuppa and biscuit. Entry is by gold coin donation. Hope to see you there! -------- Anne Drysdale was a farmer in her own right in Scotland when she migrated to Australia for health reasons. She arrived in Melbourne on the Indus in 1840, and travelled down to Geelong, where she met her future partner Caroline Newcomb at the residence of Dr Alexander Thomson. In October 1840, the two women took up a 10,000 acre lease on the Barwon, known as 'Boronggoop', later extending it to Leep Leep. Their sheep run was a success, and in 1843 they obtained the Coryule run at Indented Head, purchasing the freehold in 1848, and subsequently disposing of Boronggoop. By the time of Anne Drysdale's death at the Coryule mansion in 1853, they had built up a large farming enterprise and were highly regarded in the community. Caroline died 21 years later and she was buried beside her friend. (Monument Australia) -------

05.01.2022 Rope maker Sarah and her apprentice Niclas make ropes in Älvängen, Sweden, at their full length ropewalk, along with Bernt from the Rope maker Museum. The lengt...h of the rope walk, and their machines and register plates, allow for longer and thicker ropes to be made, than we can produce home in Hardanger. Video: Silje Ensby
