08.01.2022 Let’s be clear: there is absolutely nothing wrong with being who you are. And there’s everything wrong with dangerous conversion practices that tell gay, bi and... trans people they need to be 'cured'. This bigoted quackery destroys lives and perpetuates shame and stigma. Today we introduced legislation to ban it. For good.

07.01.2022 Happy bi visibility day. Be proud, be visible and celebrate. #bisexual #bivisibility #bivisibilityday #inclusion #celebrate #visibility

01.01.2022 Join in the fun with Broken Heel TV on TONIGHT! Live from Piano Bar Geelong.

01.01.2022 Geelong has a rich history of LGBTIQ people and recently we lost a hero who created safe spaces for many. I didn’t know Keith personally but I have heard the stories from his friends and ex partner to know he was a courageous man and was well loved and appreciated. The 70’s was a different time to be ‘out’ and the story below shares a snipet into Keith’s life. ... Finding your tribe and community, having safe spaces and support is life saving and its people like Keith and Tom that were the trailblazers in Geelong’s gay history. Thank you Jo Bangles It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of former Geelong resident and restaurant owner, Mr Keith Reece. Keith was a very well-known personality and gay man living in Geelong in the 1970s and into the early 1980s. Together with his partner, Tom Watson, he opened the Lamplight Coffee Shop in 1969. The Lamplight Coffee Shop was situated at the top of Moorabool st. The coffee shop ran successfully for a few years before it was morphed into a theatre restaurant that seated about 40 people in very, very cramped conditions. The café and subsequent theatre restaurant drew, in the parlance of the day, a very theatrical crowd. The proprietors were often described as being flamboyant. The business proved such a success that the couple decided to move into larger premises. In 1973, Keith and Tom took out a lease om 73 Pakington Street. They quickly converted the rather austere Elclair Hall into a 1890’s music hall style venue. The venue also received a new name: The Gay Nineties Theatre Restaurant. In 1979, things took a dark turn for Keith. Keith reported to police that he had been receiving threats. It got to the point where police were so concerned, they secreted undercover officers amongst the theatre restaurant audience in order to catch the culprit. One morning, in the early hours, as he was taking rubbish out via the rear fire escape, he was viciously attacked by a man wielding a baseball bat . The attack almost ended Keith’s life. He spent months in rehab after having metal pins to hold his leg together. The man was known to Keith. The theatre restaurant was a winner and proved popular with the people from near and far. In 1984, Keith and Tom went their own ways after winding up the business. The building then became occupied by the Stagecoach Theatre Restaurant. Keith then began working for John Hancocks Theatre Restaurant in Sandringham before spending his last working years at the Saint Kilda Football Club Social Club. Keith passed away quietly and peacefully at home. Vale Keith Morris Reece . 19.12.1937 16.11.2020. Gavin Bourke
