22.01.2022 54 years ago today was the Battle of Long Tan, where the first soldiers of the 6th battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment fought in one of the largest most fiercest battles of the Vietnam war. Today we remember and pay respects to the soldiers who served and the lives that were lost. Lest we forget.

20.01.2022 The Poppy Appeal is an annual fundraising activity that RSL’s across the nation take on in the lead up to Remembrance Day each year, and it is on again this year albeit a little different. Usually, you would see our fantastic volunteers at shopping centres and train stations selling commemorative poppies but this year we feel it is a safer option to sell them at the Geelong RSL. Every dollar raised through the Poppy Appeal goes directly to supporting veterans and their families. Donations can also be made online at www.poppyappeal.com.au, every little bit counts!

20.01.2022 With the Marsh Community Series done and dusted, footy is just around the corner! To celebrate RSL Victoria is giving away free tickets to the ANZAC Day mega clash between Collingwood and Essendon. 19.01.2022 Today, the 11th of November is Remembrance Day, a special time where we remember those who bravely served their country and risked their lives in WW1. On this day in 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare, and each year we take a minute of silence in commemoration. Due to the current COVID restrictions, The Shrine of Remembrance will live stream the Official Victorian State Day Service on their Facebook page beginning at 10:45am, which you can access here: https://www.facebook.com/shrineofremembrance The Geelong RSL team would love to see our great community participate in the service and pay their respects. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

18.01.2022 RSL Active Warrnambool has launched its new online Physical Training class. The weekly session will be delivered by a professional Physical Training instructor. 07.01.2022 WARRNAMBOOL, SUNDAY 22 MARCH, 2020 RSL Active Warrnambool is holding Walking Off The War Within event in Warrnambool to help fight depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Together we can shake off the stigma associated with mental health! Join Emergency Service Personnel, Defence Force Personnel and members of public to walk in memory of Nathan Shanahan, a returned solider and firefighter, and other fallen Service Men and Women who have taken their own lives after bat...tling mental health issues. Nathan was a fierce advocate for mental health and PTSD; sadly, Nathan lost his battle in December 2016. Walking Off The War Within is one way Nathans legacy continues. The Challenge complete the ultimate 20km with 20kg or walk any distance you can with or without a pack. A family event The day is designed for families to enjoy together, people of all abilities and ages are encouraged to walk. 02.01.2022 GEELONG RSL Sub-Branch is urging people to donate to the ANZAC Appeal online here: https://anzacappeal.com.au/ Geelong RSL Sub-Branch is encouraging the public to donate to the ANZAC Appeal online this year as restrictions around non-essential travel tighten in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Geelong RSL Sub-Branch President, Andrew Hanns, said Australian's have been purchasing ANZAC badges from RSL volunteers in the lead up to ANZAC Day for almost a century. Buying and... proudly wearing an ANZAC Appeal badge is as much an ANZAC tradition as attending a Dawn Service. If this was a normal year, volunteers from our Sub-Branch would be out and selling ANZAC badges right now in support of the annual ANZAC Appeal. However, 2020 is not a normal year, and Victorians need to stay home to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Our RSL is doing its bit, and our volunteers will not be fundraising this year. Instead, we are asking our community to support the ANZAC Appeal by making an online donation at anzacappeal.com.au. Its very safe and secure, and its easy to do in just three simple steps. Money raised through the online appeal will go where it always has to fund vital services for veterans and families, Mr Hanns said. RSL Victoria State President, Dr Robert Webster OAM, said that COVID-19 had increased the need for the RSL to raise funds to support veterans and families. Dr Webster said Many veterans are doing it especially tough. Theyre struggling with social isolation, physical and mental health problems. The longer this pandemic goes on, the more acute the needs of our veterans become. Please show your support for those veterans who have made sacrifices for us and donate to the ANZAC Appeal via anzacappeal.com.au this ANZAC Day, Dr Webster said.
