18.01.2022 macOS Catalina has arrived! Check if your Mac can run the latest operating system! PLEASE NOTE: ... Apple has been warning macOS users and developers about the end of 32-bit software support for quite some time. With macOS Catalina (macOS 10.15), the end is actually here. Without getting into the weeds with the technical details here, more bits really just means better performance for a computer. Because of that, the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit software is a natural one. And Apple has pushing this transition for a number of years. Apple began requiring all Mac App Store submissions and app updates within Apples Mac App Store to be 64-bit back in 2018. Because of Apples slow transition to 64-bit software, theres a good chance that most of the apps on your Mac are already updated to account for it. But there will be a few exceptions. Apps that dont come from the Mac App Store are one big exception. Although there are plenty of non-App Store apps that are 64-bit, there are likely quite a few other apps that havent been updated. Theres also a good chance that apps youve installed in the past but havent updated in a while are still 32-bit; older Microsoft Office and Adobe packages often fall into this category. You can check your apps for 64-bit compatibility manually with the following steps. **Click on the in the top left of the menu bar. **Select About This Mac. **Click on the System Report (the button underneath your Macs specifications). **In this next window, scroll down until you see the Software section in the sidebar. **Click on the Applications option under Software. **This is your list of applications. You can navigate by scrolling, using the arrow keys or typing the first letters of an app. Once youre in this list, click on any app. You should see a section titled 64-Bit (Intel). Next to this is either Yes or No. Yes means the app is 64-bit, No means the app is 32-bit and needs to be updated. Before downloading and installing macOS Catalina, please make sure to check out all your 32-bit apps currently running on your Mac and update any you still use to 64-bit. Need more help? 17.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Due to the current coronavirus outbreak and in an attempt to protect our staff and our community Geelong Technology Group is no longer providing service for iPhones, Air Pods, Ear Phones & Beats products. *** We are still offering service and support for PC and Mac from our store. ... Probability of transmission of COVID-19 is much higher with these particular devices for a number of reasons - iPhones, EarPods and HeadPhones are used & or worn close to the face, being the main point of transmission; Additionally despite our through cleaning protocols it is not possible to clean behind the speakers vents and mesh that protect the speaker cone. This leaves an area where transmission is possible. At this stage not enough is known regarding infectious transmission of COVID-19 from hard flat surfaces - Current reports are that COVID-19 can remain on hard flat surfaces for up to 72 hours however expert opinions are mixed with no exact infectious time determined. Until otherwise noted our best advice is to contact Apple on: 1300 321 456 and initiate a mail in strategy; should this option be available currently with Apple. We do thank you for your understanding during these uncertain times and will endeavour to have this repair/ replacement option available from our store as soon as possible. 13.01.2022 APP of the month (October) At Geelong Technology Group weve found a lot of great apps that have both improved and made our lives easier but its not always about us - In fact as a parent this statement couldnt be more true. A member of our staff recently stumbled onto this gem of an app (Sago Mini world) and his daughter has been loving it!... In the Sago Mini World, children have a wide variety of games and activities to choose from. Each world provides unique environments for the characters to engage with. Children can play dress up, build, engage with music, go to the zoo, create monsters and bugs, practice preschool concepts in the puppy preschool, and visit different landscapes such as the ocean and forrest, as just a few of the many activities available. Many of the games focused on cause and effect which is very engaging for young toddlers. For instance when building with tools, the child could just touch the bolt to get it to turn or you could move your finger in the direction you wanted the wrench to turn. This allows for more flexibility in the play and skill variation based on age. We give it 9/10 (more affordable pricing and wed give this 10/10).
