24.01.2022 Todays task involves so many maths skills: Sorting, grouping, shapes and volume. Extension activity: fit them all back in the cupboard with their lids on!

24.01.2022 This article is an excellent read for ALL parents of school aged children (and heck, for that matter, even adult children!)

23.01.2022 If they cancel the rest of the school year, students would miss approx 6 months of education. Many people are concerned about students falling behind because of... this. Yes, they may fall behind when it comes to classroom education... BUT WHAT IF .... What if instead of falling behind", this group of kids are ADVANCED because of this? Hear me out. What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read, they love to express themselves in writing. What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyard and sitting near a window in the quiet. What if they notice the birds and the dates the different flowers emerge, and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower? What if this generation are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry, and keep a well run home? What if they learn to stretch a dollar and to live with less? What if they learn to plan shopping trips and meals at home. What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good to share in the small delights of the everyday? What if they are the ones to place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential support workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, custodians, logistics, and health care workers and their supporting staff, just to name a few of the millions taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place? What if among these children, a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and a simpler life to truly learn what really matters in this life? What if they are AHEAD? 12.01.2022 TUITION & COVID19 We are certainly in unfamiliar territory with the local (and global) community coming to grips with the threats that the coronavirus poses. Due to the fact that we physically work close to our students, both Sean and I are very aware of the need for extra vigilance when it comes to 'hygiene'. We ask that if students or members of their household are at all unwell, you let us know BEFORE we arrive at your place or you turn up at ours. If students/families ar...e at all concerned about social distancing, we can always tutor via the Internet by arrangement. Communication is the key so please dont hesitate to call us to discuss your situation. Meanwhile, its business as usual. Take care and WASH YOUR HANDS often! Wendy

08.01.2022 Interesting article. What do you think? A SILENT TRAGEDY There is a silent tragedy that is unfolding today in our homes, and concerns our most precious jewels: our children. Our children are in a devastating emotional state! In the last 15 years, researchers have given us increasingly alarming statistics on a sharp and steady increase in childhood mental illness that is now reaching epidemic proportions:...Continue reading

04.01.2022 I saw this posted on the internet today in relation to working from home, and I think its a really important distinction to make as we struggle with trying to s...chool our kids as their parents. Just do what you can - we've canned the timetable today for my 10 year old, he whined and complained all day yesterday - it was painful! So today he asked if instead he can make the bread that Jamie Oliver made on TV last night. SOLD! He's writing down the recipe while watching it on TV, then he can make it himself and experiment. Schooling done! Just do what you can. Some of you are working, some of you are highly stressed yourself because you are essential workers, some of you have lost your jobs and have bigger things to worry about. Some of you are really struggling with lockdown and just can't cope with added drama currently. All you need to do is message the teacher and say this is not working today, we're just going to do this instead. Like seriously what are they going to do - ground you??!! Perhaps it's just watching the TVNZ homeschooling programmes for the age group. Whatever works people! The main thing is that you keep a nice, calm, safe home for your small people over this time. 03.01.2022 Scavenger Hunts can be great fun. They are also very easy to adapt to any age. One of my favourite items for older children is "a foot print". Great creative responses are possible. How would you present it?
