25.01.2022 April Prompt for the Monthly Writing Challenge 2020 This month's challenge is to write a story about your favourite room in your house. Add an extra challenge by making the room a setting for a horror story.... This prompt comes from our 30-days of Writing Prompts Booklet, which we created for our members to inspire them in these uncertain times. If you'd like a sample of this booklet for free, just send us Facebook message! Feel free to share your story in the comments.

25.01.2022 Our hearts and thoughts go out to anyone, and all the animals, affected by the bushfires. It has been devastating, to say the least. There has been a lot of sharing about ways to help, where to donate etc. But I'd thought we'd share some here as well: #Authorsforfireys is an auction of signed books, illustrations, unique experiences, one-off opportunities and writers' services. It is taking place on Twitter from 6th Jan 2020 under the hashtags #AuthorsForFireys and #AuthorsF...orFiries, channelling funds directly to our brave Australian firefighters. From signed books, editing services to writing retreats, there is a lot on offer. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/36GtERU Terry Floyd Foundation Book Drive - An astonishing outpouring of generosity means that the Terry Floyd Foundation have been inundated with, and can no longer accept any more books for Clifton Creek Primary School. However, if you would STILL LIKE TO GIVE BOOKS to children affected by the bush fire emergency, they are coordinating a BOOK DRIVE for more primary schools. How to help: -They’re accepting donations of books (new or as new) for the month of January. The Little Bookroom: 759 Nicholson Street, Carlton North, VIC 3054 -Please ensure that books are in excellent condition. If you’re not sure, drop it off at an op-shop or a 123 Read To Me (all books are precious, but this book drive isn't the right match for all of them) -Books should be for primary school-aged children -Volunteer: if you can help them triage and/or pack these books (or have any other relevant expertise or contacts) please email [email protected]. -Authors and illustrators: it would be lovely to include personalised messages of hope and solidarity so that the children who receive them know we are thinking of them. If you can spare a moment to write a little card, do a drawing or send a note of comfort or humour, we will tuck them into the books before we dispatch them (drop in or mail them to the shop) If you are looking to make a direct donation here are a few links: Red Cross: https://fundraise.redcross.org.au/drr WIRES: https://www.wires.org.au/donate/ways-to-help Wildlife Victoria: https://www.wildlifevictoria.org.au//donate-to-wildlife-vi Foodbank Victoria: https://www.foodbank.org.au//make-a-donation/donate-funds/ To everyone in or near fire zones across Australia, we are thinking of you. Please stay safe.
