24.01.2022 The weather at this time of the year is fickle. One day the weather can be perfect for burning and a couple of days later it's warmer and the wind picks up, causing those burns to escape. TFS has seen an increase in escaped burns on private property over the last couple of weeks.... We encourage property owners to use favourable weather conditions to burn and reduce fuels to mitigate their bushfire risk, but this must be done safely . If you're planning to burn on your property you must be adequately prepared for the size of the burn and for the weather conditions you are burning in. You should also keep checking it in the days after it's been extinguished.

24.01.2022 Last night our trees and training area have again been targeted. We planted these trees as a border around our training area but it constantly gets destroyed if you see the park land along School Rd being destroyed call police asap. This area is under CCTV footage and police will be notified.

23.01.2022 We are well underway to our goal target of STEPping UP for mental health in the virtual Melbourne fieefighter stair climb. Help support our team of firefighters to reach the fund-raising target with all proceeds going to mental health.

22.01.2022 If you aren't already, you should give this page a "like" before summer is upon us. They supply information from other fire brigades, share information that is important & are a great bunch of people behind the scenes https://www.facebook.com/tasmanianbushfiressupport/

22.01.2022 We're on the hunt for cars again! Do you have an old clunker lying around that you need to get rid of? TFS firefighters use real cars for road crash rescue trai...ning exercises to ensure our scenarios are as close to real-life as possible. If you have an old unserviceable whole car that you are willing to donate to TFS please get in touch. We can arrange collection of your car and donations can be made by contacting your closest TFS regional office during business hours. South: (03) 6166 5500 North: (03) 6777 3666

21.01.2022 Do you have a fire hydrant on your property? If so, is it accessible for firefighters? Is the grass short around it? Is it free from wood, electric fences etc.?... It makes our job easier as well as enabling us to quickly maintain and knock down a fire on your property or the adjoining property. Help us, help you!

19.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Wednesday 31 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to l...ight a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should: be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulnerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the south in line with the north-west and north which has permit periods revoked in the past few weeks. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws that govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade. 18.01.2022 This afternoon turned out to be a busy hot afternoon for brigades across the district. With an ADVICE Warning current for Lucaston and two current vegetation fires in patrol in Geeveston and Surges Bay we ask; if you are burning off, that you firstly register your burn with the TFS by freecalling 1800000699 and secondly monitor your fire... it is your responsibility. Huon Highway Geeveston.

16.01.2022 Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn at Denison River West in the Southwest from Tuesday, 29 September. The burn is part... of the TWWHA Fire Mitigation Program which is aimed at reducing fire risk to visitors, communities, the outstanding universal value of the TWWHA, critical infrastructure within and adjacent to the TWWHA. The burn area is approximately 540 hectares and will take 1 day to complete. Smoke may be present in the area for a couple of days after the burn is complete. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites: www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/precautions https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. For air quality information visit: https://epa.tas.gov.au//real-time-air-quality-data-for-tas Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Parks and Wildlife Service on 6165 4053 A map of planned burns is available here: www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

10.01.2022 A winter tip from Firefighter Emma: Wheat bags can catch fire if they're overheated or old. Never overheat them in the microwave and replace your wheat bag if i...t's looking worn or old. Be fire safe this winter.

10.01.2022 WHERE IS..... Does anyone know where our sign frame that holds our fire permit sign has gone ?? Last seen opposite Sacred Heart School on the Huon Highway, it is nearly time for us to pop our sign back up soon and we are unable to do that until we find the sign post! 09.01.2022 Get behind your local firefighters this year doing the virtual firefighters stair climb. A donation as little as $2 helps out and goes a long way! Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb is not only a physical and mental challenge to climb over 3046 steps in a month each step representing a life lost to suicide in Australia each year.... 08.01.2022 GFB attends on average 20 assist Ambulance/medical calls a year this is quite high for a volunteer fire station but we are here to help our community in need. GFB has been signed up on the early access to defibrillation program for 6 years now. What does this mean well we have attached a link for you to learn more. But this could mean if you have called a Ambulance for a loved one that is suffering a cardiac arrest there is the potential that a fire truck might arrive first w...ith volunteer members from your local fire station to perform CPR for your loved one not all fire stations do this but there is a few across our valley We thank those volunteers that do this job as its not a easy job in your home town During July we took the chance to do some inside training with the volunteer Ambulance crew from Dover they came to our station to show us exactly where things is kept in the Ambulance and teach us some handy things that will help us better to help you . 03.01.2022 TFS strongly recommends that landholders in parts of the Midlands and South East hold off on burning and lighting campfires on Friday and Saturday ahead of fore...cast high temperatures and strong winds on Saturday. The conditions will increase the likelihood of burns escaping. This advice applied to people in the Huon Valley (eastern side), Clarence, Sorell, Derwent Valley, Southern Midlands, Central Highlands and Kingborough local government areas. In preparation for the conditions, TFS will double the brigade response to any vegetation fires in the southern region on Saturday, and have aircraft and incident management teams on standby. Keeping fire in the landscape to a minimum and reducing the risk of uncontrolled bushfires will allow our dedicated volunteers to spend an uninterrupted Easter break with their families. Landholders must also remember that they are responsible for any fire they light on their property, and for keeping it contained to their own land. This responsibility extends to ensuring that any fires that have been lit in recent days and weeks are monitored over the weekend to ensure they don’t flare up and escape.

02.01.2022 Well done Sheffield Fire Brigade. Lovely way to remember those who lost lives
