25.01.2022 SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR This week our school was learning how to demonstrate respectful, positive language. We collaborated with classmates, demonstrating teamwork. Great times!

24.01.2022 It was fantastic to see everyone dressed up as their favourite book character yesterday for Book Week.

24.01.2022 The Prep/1 class had fun in the kitchen this morning improving their cooking skills while consolidating some of their maths concepts around halves and quarters. Real world learning!

24.01.2022 REMINDER: The Student Assistance Scheme (otherwise known as STAS) is changing in 2021. If you are a current concession card holder (Centrelink Health Care Card..., Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession card, or a Department of Veterans Affairs Pensioner Concession Card) you can apply using the form below: https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/ You will receive a letter confirming the outcome of your application approximately 14 days after it is submitted. If you need access to a hard copy form, please contact your school, email: [email protected] or phone 1800 827 055. Please note: if you are already receiving assistance, you don’t need to apply again.

23.01.2022 Counting in twos, comparing numbers greater than and less than when weighing ingredients and practising oral language skills were the focus in the kitchen today for the Prep/1 class. Sharing the yummy food at the end is just a bonus.

22.01.2022 Our fortnightly afternoon assemblies will commence on Monday 3rd May. Everyone is welcome to come along from 2:30 in the gym.

21.01.2022 The 4/5/6 class worked hard in the kitchen today. Again, we used fresh produce from our garden to prepare the tasty dishes. The children and volunteers alike enjoyed sharing the food. Please, if you are able to volunteer on Thursdays or Fridays, we would really appreciate your time. Feel free to contact the school if you’re able to help.

21.01.2022 Interesting...

20.01.2022 There will be no cooking this week to allow for a thorough clean of everything in the kitchen. A very long and loud thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who have helped this term with our cooking lessons. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program could not go ahead each week without our tireless helpers. We are looking forward to seeing you all again for more learning in the kitchen next term.

18.01.2022 The Prep/1 class worked well as a team in the kitchen today. The food they prepared was very tasty and they got the chance to do some measurement using the scales too.

18.01.2022 If you are able to volunteer your time on Fridays from 11:30 - 1:00, we would appreciate it greatly. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program cannot run if we don’t have enough volunteers to help in the kitchen. The safety of the students and staff is paramount and this requires us to have enough adult helpers for each class of children. If there aren’t enough adults, we cannot go ahead with the lesson. No cooking experience is necessary as we all support each other and share some yummy food when we’re finished. If you have a working with vulnerable people card and are able to help, please come along tomorrow. We would love to see you.

17.01.2022 Hey everyone! I’m Narelle and I started working at Geeveston Primary and Huonville High as the School Chaplain this term. I’m here to support staff, students and families in the school community and can help with wellbeing regardless of beliefs and background. I work in a values based capacity in the school and am always happy to chat. I work Thursdays and Fridays at Geeveston Primary and can be contacted by leaving a message at the front office or on my email [email protected] Working closely with the principal and staff around the school I’ve been helping in the kitchen with cooking, running games and cards at lunch on Fridays, helping in classes and have introduced some fun card games into the school. GUBS and Saboteur have been a hit! I’m from SA and have travelled Australia for 18 months in a camper trailer as our first camping experience. Cape Keraudren in WA is in the pic as one of our favourite spots. So many more as well! I love cards, games, hiking and spending time with my husband and 2 teens. Looking forward to meeting you!

16.01.2022 School Association - Hamburger Lunch Reminder - The School Association is hosting a free hamburger lunch tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd) to celebrate the end of Term 3. 16.01.2022 The 2/3 class working hard to learn some programming using block coding. We will be looking at writing algorithms over the next few weeks to create a game for a friend to test.

16.01.2022 Our senior class worked in the kitchen today. Teamwork and communication skills were demonstrated by the students in order to prepare the dishes in time ready to share. As always, our wonderful volunteers this week have made it possible for our students to enjoy the kitchen. Thank you to all the adults who helped us this week.

15.01.2022 We are looking forward to seeing all of our friends back at school tomorrow! Make sure you’re wearing your school jumpers or hoodies. It’s going to be a cold beginning to the term

15.01.2022 The 2/3 class hard at work in the kitchen. Lots of mixtures being made this week to link in with their current science unit. Well done 2/3!

15.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Back to school today. We are looking forward to seeing you all!

14.01.2022 Our wonderful 2/3 class were trying hard to follow all three school rules this week; Be Safe, Be Kind and Be Your Best. So many acts of kindness were shown by the children helping each other and cleaning the kitchen efficiently. They always exercise safety measures and try hard to improve skills. Well done!

13.01.2022 The best food out there...

13.01.2022 Before we know it, the school year will be finished and Santa Claus will be gearing up for his busiest night of the year. 13.01.2022 Don't forget tomorrow from 9:00 - 10:00am is the opportunity to have coffee and a chat at Michelle's Roadhouse with Narelle, our new chaplain.

11.01.2022 Last week we announced that the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) was being changed. From next year, families with a Health Care Card (or equivalent) may now be ...eligible for STAS. This will replace the income thresholds that have been used. You can find out more about the changes on our website: http://ow.ly/WPbr50B6Ws2 Or email [email protected] or phone 1800 827 055 if you need more information.

09.01.2022 A quick reminder that book week will be in week 2 after we return to school for Term 4. We will be dressing up as our favourite book characters on Tuesday 20th October and, weather permitting, we may even get to walk through Geeveston this year! We look forward to seeing and hearing about your favourite books and characters.

09.01.2022 Don't forget today is our Book Week Parade. If you would like to join us, if the weather stays fine we will be walking through Geeveston at 10:00am. Dress up as your favourite book character and come along!

08.01.2022 This bear was found in our school yard Monday morning. If it belongs to you, please contact the school office on 6297 1336.

08.01.2022 Being involved in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program gives more to the children than cooking skills. Counting, grouping, classification and multiplication took place in the kitchen for the Prep/1 class this week. Situated learning allows the students to make meaningful connections to their world. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who came along to share your time. You are what makes this program possible.

06.01.2022 Term 2 is almost upon us which means cold and flu season is just around the corner. As a community it's important that we keep on top of COVID-19 and keep one another safe! For more information, visit our website: www.education.tas.gov.au/parents/novel-coronavirus-covid-19

06.01.2022 Football Tasmania had been visiting our school for football training clinics throughout the term. The final visit consisted of a mini world cup competition. During this friendly competition, the children had to play four games of football and take part in some other, skill based, activities. Fun was had by all and there were even some prizes awarded for the winning team and individual children who demonstrated good sportsmanship during the afternoon. Thank you very much to Football Tasmania for the opportunity for our students to take part in all of the activities.

05.01.2022 Please share! Thank you :-)

04.01.2022 Friday, 19th March was National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Each class conducted activities all week to remind students that bullying, in any form, is NEVER ok. Each student also made a positive self-portrait to join together with their friends to signify the importance of being inclusive and supporting each other. Well done everyone for continuing our zero tolerance attitude towards bullying and violence.

03.01.2022 For all the Hobbit lovers out there! :-)

02.01.2022 The 2/3 class prepared three different dishes today. All were yummy and fun to make. From the garden to the table - we used fresh silverbeet, rosemary and parsley from our school garden which makes it even more special.
