25.01.2022 We love catching up with the news from our gelato friends. And the big news from the lovely Jaz at Geloso Gelateria is her latest flavour: salted pistachio gelato. Here at Gelido, we love traditional pistachio gelato. It’s a classic every good gelateria makes one. Which also means that it is an ideal benchmark to assess gelato excellence. Nutty taste from the best pistachios tick. Silky smooth texture tick. Khaki colour (definitely no artificial colourings) tick. Why... tinker with something so perfect? But on the other hand, we know that flavour is greatly enhanced by adding salt. Case in point: the hugely popular salted caramel. So we had to try Jaz’s new salted pistachio. Our verdict totally awesome! It is a sophisticated balance between sweet and salt, with the lovely pistachio flavour intensified by the salt. https://gelido.com.au/reviews/geloso-gelateria-qvm/

23.01.2022 Remember those long ago days when we could travel beyond our local neighbourhood, even have the odd few days away from home? Way back in March, we splurged on a glorious weekend in Ballarat. An amazing long lunch at Meigas. Authentic Spanish food, the "feed me" option was a delight, especially for first timers who can't decide what to order.... And not one, but two visits to Il Piccolo Gelato, one of our favourite gelaterie. Its wonderful gelati is reason enough to visit Ballarat. Once the lockdown is lifted... #ballarat #ballarateats #supportlocal https://gelido.com.au/reviews/il-piccolo-gelato-ballarat-20/

22.01.2022 One of our favourite Melbourne gelaterie has been reborn with a new name and new location. Fresko Gelato & Waffle House Melbourne opened in late November, at shiny new premises in Highett. We've always loved their gelati - especially the Greek-inspired flavours, like galaktobouriko, loukoumi, mastiha (mastic) and, perfect for summer, watermelon & feta. Prefer something more Italian? Fresko's cassata gelato is sublime. All made on-site, in small batches, using premium ingredi...ents. Topped off with super friendly service - an absolute pleasure to visit. https://gelido.com.au/r/fresko-gelato-waffle-house-highett/

22.01.2022 Melbourne's lockdown is over! 15 weeks. And one of the first things we did was check out Lipari Gelato Bar, scooping again for walk-in customers. We loved it so much, we returned a week later for more... Lipari focuses on traditional Italian gelati and it's everything we love about gelati. Dense smooth textures, intense flavours, delivered with super friendly service. Lipari's lemon sorbetto, made from home-grown lemons, is awesomely good. ... https://gelido.com.au/reviews/lipari-gelato-bar-thornbury/

21.01.2022 The Seychelles is a beautiful place. Lush tropical islands in a turquoise sea. White sandy beaches. Friendly locals. Throwback to a year ago, a carefree time when we could travel to exotic locations, experiencing new cultures and making new friends. Loved my trip to the Seychelles, a lively mix of cultures, just like the local food. And right in the middle of Victoria, on the main island of Mahé, you can find gelato at Dolce Vita Seychelles.... https://gelido.com.au//la-dolce-vita-victoria-mahe-seyche/

17.01.2022 Every weekend until Christmas, Sorbetteria Buonissimo will be at Forest Hill Chase - we wasted no time in dashing over there to sample Buonissimo's artisan gelati and sorbetti. The charming Maurizio is keen to teach us Melburnians how to recognise and appreciate true artisan gelati. That's gelati that is crafted from premium all-natural ingredients, and made in small batches using traditional Italian techniques. Most of the flavours are vegan-friendly, and all are awesomely g...ood. #vegan #allnaturalingredients #gelatoartigianale #foresthillchase https://gelido.com.au/reviews/buonissimo-forest-hill/

16.01.2022 Now us Melburnians are halfway through our Stage 4 lockdown, a time when we could travel more than 5km from home seems like a lifetime ago. So our thoughts are straying to our last trip to New Zealand, when Gelido visited Island Gelato Company at Westfield Newmarket (twice!) for some amazing gelati. Will we ever see a Trans-Tasman travel bubble? A relaxing break on Waiheke Island - the original home of Island Gelato - sounds like a great idea. https://gelido.com.au//island-gelato-company-newmarket-ne/

15.01.2022 What do you get when you mix the Swedish concept of ‘lagom’ with Italian gelato? Being an admirer of many things Swedish, I was super keen to find out how Lagom Gelateria combines Swedish sensibility with Italian passion. While the foundation for this Brunswick gelateria is based on traditional Italian techniques and recipes, the creative process for developing new and interesting flavours is guided by the principle of ‘lagom’ everything being in balance, or in moderation. https://gelido.com.au/reviews/lagom-gelateria-brunswick/

15.01.2022 Benny adores markets. Loves the market buzz, loves the fresh produce. And at Preston Market he is totally in his element. Fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, cheeses and cakes, it has everything anyone would want. Including a lovely little gelateria, Allora Gelato. From a modest market stall, some mighty fine gelato is churned out. All made on-site, from quality ingredients. Only enough space for a dozen flavours on the menu, but they change every day. Which means that we are super keen to return and sample more! https://gelido.com.au/reviews/allora-gelato-preston/

14.01.2022 We're super excited that the cafe at That's Amore Cheese is open again for dining in. We love visiting the Thomastown factory shop, stocking up on our cheese needs, and plan our trips to include a meal at the cafe. The menu - unsurprisingly - highlights That's Amore's superb cheeses, which are all made onsite using traditional Italian methods. But we were saddened to discover that the gelato cabinet had disappeared. For an all-too-brief time, That's Amore Gelato produced won...derful gelati. The classics - pistachio, hazelnut, chocolate, lemon - were exceptional. One of my favourites was amarena, with a generous slurp of sour cherry goodness. Will we return, even without gelato? Absolutely. Love the food - light-as-a-feather gnocchi, generous antipasto platters, succulent porchetta and the freshly made cannoli, filled of course with That's Amore ricotta. https://gelido.com.au/reviews/thats-amore-thomastown/

09.01.2022 Artisan gelato makers craft their product from raw natural ingredients, fine tuning the base and flavours, guided by their deep knowledge of food chemistry to turn milk and sugar, fruit and nuts into the treat we love. Max from Brighton’s Little Sky Gelato is such an artisan. He makes his gelati on-site, fresh each day from quality all-natural ingredients. Victorian milk from Schultz Organic Dairy and Gippsland Jersey cream. Free range eggs. Fresh seasonal fruits. Fair trade ...products including chocolate and vanilla. He even makes his own waffle cones! Definitely no pre-mixes, preservatives, artificial colours or artificial flavours. Couple Little Sky's superb gelato with commitment to environmentally and socially responsible principles, and those lucky Brighton locals have a gelateria to be proud of. https://gelido.com.au/reviews/little-sky-gelato-brighton/

04.01.2022 2020 has been a year for developing our social consciences and getting back to basics. Growing vegetables, baking banana bread, swapping produce with our neighbours and supporting our local communities and businesses. Attitudes and activities that complement the Happy Eats Gelato philosophy. Happy Eats is doing its bit to reduce food waste by turning hard-to-sell fruit and veg into artisan gelati and cold pressed juices. And the gelati? Excellent! With a special shout-out for the pear and cinnamon gelato - loved it! https://gelido.com.au/reviews/happy-eats-gelato-ascot-vale/
