24.01.2022 How to make pink pasta: peel the beetroot, grate and soak in water, add water to the semolina mix and mix to make the dough, let it rest and then cut slices (this bit looked disturbingly like a steak!), then roll it out and cut into fettuccini with the pasta machine, and finally cook! Thanks to Sally’s por to plot school challenge for the week! #homeschool #pasta #homecooking #gembrookretreat @ Gembrook Retreat

16.01.2022 Our 10am worship is the most sacred of our daily rhythm. To move from our morning’s work to a time of deep contemplation we start with 15 minutes of music playing. It calls us and helps us to transition. Each morning there is a different playlist. Some of the music is perhaps what you may expect, Taize one morning, contemporary songs of praise another. Other mornings we have music from top artists who have sung deeply moving music like Archie Roach, Gurrumul and Gillian Welch.... But, it’s Thursday morning’s playlist that always touches my soul the most. It lifts me up and generally speaks to my condition, as we Quakers say. It’s the music from the Credo community, part of Urban Seed, a community that was made up of folks who lived on the streets or not. The music isn’t from a fancy recording studio and none of the musicians are professionals. I think that’s why it is so soulful. It’s from the meeting place of people from different backgrounds and experiences trying to make sense of their lives together, and it’s heartfelt and raw. By the end of Thursday morning prayers I am always thankful that Urban Seed folk were in my life and I feel Gembrook Retreat is a much better place for knowing them. 09.01.2022 Ragwort is one of the weeds we’re trying to get rid of. Luckily it’s not spiky and it’s easy to pull out of the soft dirt in spring. Of course it likes to grow near prickly blackberry and spiky chestnut cases. Plus I was keeping an eye out for leeches and a wary ear out for falling branches... #FRoGR #friendsofgembrookretreat #weeding #ragwort
