25.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch This is a you tube clip about exercising with arthritis. Many people over 50 have some form of arthritis. In fact 3.9 million Australians have arthritis. That is 1 in 6 people. Arthritis Tips taken from Dr Boynton If you have arthritis of the joint, you must control inflammation ... Centrate the joint. One technique is to use banded distraction. That is using bands in a particular way to assist. Since my hip fracture I have regularly used these techniques. It is super helpful. If the joint is decentrated, (for example in the case of the hip the joint is not sitting evenly in the capsule) the joint surface breaks down and becomes arthritic. The entire kinetic chain is affected too. Movement is medicine If the joint is swollen ice Active myofascial release( also known as trigger point therapy) Turn on muscle by isometric exercise Use tens machines Build endurance and strength in the muscle If the spine is the problem, then don’t forget to focus on the hips and the shoulders If the knee is the problem focus on the hips and the ankles as well. They are all interconnected. Work out why the problem happened in the first place. Do you have compensatory movements as a result of injury? If you don’t work it out, even if you have a hip replacement, it will break down faster. Reduce stress. Diet Reduce sugar Eat an anti-inflammatory diet Reduce alcohol Pant based diet See more
13.01.2022 Today is 1 year since fracturing the neck of my femur and my collarbone in a bike accident. There were some very difficult moments. Looking for the positives and step by step, day by day getting better. Today I have never been stronger. For anyone going through difficult times I hope you find some light and strength too.
03.01.2022 As we age we are more prone to poor posture. Head forward posture, kyphosis and loss of the curve in our lower back doesn't happen overnight. It is a gradual process. Stretching tight muscles, strengthening weak muscles, breathing exercises and habit formation can halt and improve poor posture.
