19.01.2022 This came into the gem laboratory and workshop today. Green sapphire. See the the straight colour banding? Straight colour banding is typical of natural stones. Very nice ring.

17.01.2022 These were purchased at an online auction. The description said 'Natural rubies'. They are! That's the good news. They have surface reaching fractures, an observable 'purple flash' and bubble inclusions. Any Gemmologists want to tell us what treatment they have had?

12.01.2022 Moving! Thank you Redcliffe for your support and business. Gemtechnical is moving to the city in the new year. I want to thank all of you I got to meet and do work for in Redcliffe. There were some interesting projects and great people. I wish you all a Happy New Year and a successful 2019.

10.01.2022 Photomicrography. I've set up the trinocular microscope with a camera to photograph inclusions inside gemstones. Photo 1 is a natural ruby with parallel asicular rutile called 'Silk' and crystal inclusions. Photo 2 is Aquamarine with growth tubes called 'Rain.'
