22.01.2022 Green grass everywhere... and the trees have grown with all the recent rain. Gemtree is looking terrific.

20.01.2022 22.5mls of rain overnight and hopefully more to come.

16.01.2022 Hello - our web and email provider is experiencing some tech issues at the moment meaning we are not receiving any emails. So the best way to contact us at the moment is via phone (08 8956 9855) or message us via FB.

16.01.2022 Another 48 mls overnight. I don’t think I ever tire of watching the creeks run.

13.01.2022 Red sky at night...

07.01.2022 Public service announcement: We've just been informed that the fuel truck has been delayed out of Darwin - so this means that only unleaded fuel is not available at Gemtree until later this week. However diesel supplies are fine. We'll update availability later this week once fuel supplies have been delivered.

06.01.2022 And it's raining again. Another 32 mls last night. Vehicles are fine to cross the creek.

05.01.2022 With 2021 being the unofficial Year of The Great Australian Road Trip, where better to plan a trip than along the Outback Way between Laverton in WA to Winton i...n QLD? From the Goldfields to Big Sky Country, from Explorers to Mysterious Min Min Lights, with a Dinosaur Trek and Art Trail to follow and Treasure to find, you will be captivated by ancient landscapes, dig for fossils, sing Waltzing Matilda, fossick for your own dazzling gems, relish the majestic red centre and the iconic places. You will be enlightened by Australia’s heritage and the rich indigenous culture, read the stories the Outback is bursting to tell on the various interpretive sites, immerse yourself in the myriad of extraordinary events, appreciate the wonderful flora and fauna in nature’s playground, celebrate our courageous explorers and connect to famous 4WD tracks. And finally, you will take a moment to really watch the sunset on your final evening on the Outback Way. It truly is the trip of a lifetime. We can't wait to get back into the swing of things here on social media this week. We have some awesome things planned. Make sure you're following our @outbackway1 Facebook Page and tune in at around 4.30pm QLD time on Thursday... Photo credit: @seanscottphotography

04.01.2022 Posted @withregram @joyeebum TL/DR: This isn't really the usual pretty, travel- landscapey photo. This is more a I-had-so-much-fun-supporting-a- local-business photo ...and there's a dog! We went fossicking for garnets at @gemtree_nt and we were surprised by how much fun we had. We decided to stop in at Gemtree before going further on the Plenty Highway, and decided we would fossick for garnets (other option was zircon). We were informed by our guide, John, that usually ...this tour would be full, up to 8-10 people in a group. But it was just the two of us trying to find garnets, so we had the whole site to ourselves. Don't want to give too much of the experience away and ruin the fun for anyone wanting to do this. I mean, as adults, we spent a good 2-3 hours doing this work and if the NT sun and flies weren't so annoying, I'm sure we would have gone on for longer. Highlight 1: Swipe to see! John brought his doggo, Peta (i think that was her name) along to the fossicking site, so I did spend a good lot of my time playing with her before I started fossicking she loved scratches, cuddles, sitting right on my feet so I couldn't move, and licking my face. 20/10 best fossicking buddy anyone could ask for. (But probably not if you actually want to find stuff. 10/10 huge distraction. ) Highlight 2: swipe to see the gemologist sorting through our garnet haul and showing us the ones that are big enough to make into jewellery (the best part is still yet to come clearly trying to convince the husband I need all these assortment of garnet jewellery) In other words, one of the best random traveller/tourist choices we made this trip. We thought it may have been gimmicky, but it turned out way more awesome than that.
