20.01.2022 The Gender Centre is now offering Dried Blood Spot (DBS) testing on-site at 41-43 Parramatta Road, Annandale. There are many barriers that prevent transgender and gender diverse people from accessing healthcare. DBS testing is a quick and easy finger-prick HIV test that is available for all TGD people over 16 years of age. DBS can also test for Hep C if you are in an eligible group, for e.g. if you are a Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) client, or are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or both. Please call reception on 9569 2366 or email [email protected] to book a DBS testing appointment with your case worker or to discuss your eligibility for the Hep C test. If you do not have a case worker at The Gender Centre, case worker Annika will be able to administer your test.

15.01.2022 For tonight's Transgender Day of Remembrance we have handed over direction to the incredible Bhenji Ra and the House of Slé. With everything that's been happening in the world, COVID-19 and the world wide resurgence around Black Lives Matter we wanted to stand with our most vulnerable communities . Bhenji's imagining of TDoR will kick off on Face Book and at the Gender Centre YouTube site at 7pm. We're honoured and thrilled to facilitate A BIPOC trans version of what our day of remembrance means to our BIPOC community. There work is an incredible insight into community, resilience, beauty and renewal. At the end we'll hold a memorial and invite people to leave comments and a digital candle.

15.01.2022 Transgender Day of Remembrance is being held tonight across Australia and around the globe. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, The Gender Centre, its allies and its supporters asked artist Bhenji Ra to curate TDoR as an online event. This year we've interpreted TDoR differently. We've asked one of the most marginalised communities; indigenous, black and trans people of colour to give us insight into their lives, and their version of what a memorial means to the section of the c...ommunity that experiences the highest rates of transphobic violence, discrimination and poverty. At the end we'll hold a memorial, inviting you to leave comments and light your candles at home. The video starts at 7pm AEST tonight - click the link below.

10.01.2022 As a rule The Gender Centre doesn't get involved in commenting on anything political. However the Education Legislation Amendment Bill currently being considered in the NSW parliament would effectively exclude trans and gender diverse children from having the same opportunities to attend school as every other child in NSW. The bill would put parents in the position of having to choose between attending school and the mental health and wellbeing of their children. For this reason the Gender Centre is working with Just.Equal to raise awareness on this issue. We're hoping to get as many signatures as possible for our petition and encourage the TGD community, allies and supports to sign.
