25.01.2022 As we continue to move through our series of posts on the many and varied uses of plywood, one particular sector has seen massive uplift over the last few years. With Australias growing love for caravanning holidays, the renovation of older vans is also expanding, particularly as Australia starts opening up to regional travel following the COVID-19 shutdown. Our Caravan Plywood range comes in a range of woodgrains and plain colours which are ideally suited for renovators to... work with. Being ply, the sheets are easy to install and can also be cut with everyday tools that most home renovators already have in their shed. Drop us a line to hear how we can help bring your caravan dream to life! https://gen-eco.com.au/products/plywood

23.01.2022 Completed during the COVID 19 shutdown, the Currumbin RSL refurbishment is now open and ready for business! Our Gen-Eco Ecolite digitally printed beams have been custom shaped into a curved ceiling feature above the bar. The lightweight Balsa core of Ecolite beams are ideally suited for these type of applications, allowing for highly cost effective installation.... Working closely with Cayas Architects, we were able to alter the existing Tasmanian Oak digital timber print file so the finished decor colour matched other fit-out elements in the space. This provided a much more cost effective solution to traditional methods such as staining and colour matching timber veneers. The long beam lengths were also fixed together using a custom jig-saw join, providing a stronger, cleaner binding method. Thanks to Topp Projects Brendale for their great work! https://gen-eco.com.au/products/digital-printing

23.01.2022 Did you know we specialise in large format digital UV printing solutions on a variety of Group 1 fire-rated substrates? Recently we worked with Amy Vanderzwan at Food Strategy - Design Equipment Projects to create this realistic concrete bulkhead across the front of Il Gancio Pizzeria & Bar in Brisbanes Toombul Shopping Centre. Check out the close ups and youll still find it hard to tell this is digitally printed MDF and not the heavy, cumbersome concrete that would usually have increased the build budget by thousands! Just one example of a creative solution to an all too common problem. Check out our website for more. https://gen-eco.com.au//digi/group-1-fire-rating-solutions

23.01.2022 New year, new project! We recently worked with Keystone Linings to supply digitally printed soffit panels for the newly built Old Bar Public School. As a key element of the project, architect Conrad Gargett Architecture specified our Hoop Pine digital print on James Hardie CFC Exotec and UV coating with anti-graffiti protection. By specifying this product, the project met the Group 1 fire rating required by NSW Dept of Education. Thanks to Lipman Pty Ltd and JEBS Port Macqu...arie for the amazing build and installation! https://gen-eco.com.au//digi/group-1-fire-rating-solutions

22.01.2022 Youre probably familiar with plywood, but did you know its one of the oldest building materials known to man? Made by gluing together thin sheets of wood veneer with grains running in opposing directions, modern plywood has been in use since the 1850s, with mass-production kicking off in the 1920s. But long before modernist architects and designers started exploiting its unique properties, the ancient Egyptians were using it to make coffins in the tombs of the Pharaohs a...s early as 2600 BC! Over the coming weeks, well help to demystify Plywood and answer those lingering questions about its many grades and applications while introducing you to our own range, which extends the length of the family tree! https://gen-eco.com.au/products/plywood

21.01.2022 Another quick flashback to one of our projects from last year! 11.01.2022 In previous posts, weve given you a little history and know-how about the various grades of plywood. Now its time to see it in action! Its been a couple of years since Kinglake House first graced our screens in Grand Designs Australia, having been featured again just recently. Offering a new standard in green living, the use of sustainable and innovative design principles saw some pretty ingenious use of our plywood in its design. ... Look closer, and youll see the fine textures on the floor are in fact ply - but not how youd usually see it being used. Instead of laying the sheets flat, they were simply tipped on their edge before being glued, sanded, and cut into 10mm strips (90mm deep), with the edge profile producing a stunning statement piece. The ceiling further showcases plys dexterity, with panels being laid flat, while the large door that provides such a grand entrance was also constructed using a balsa core, helping reduce the weight without impacting the overall effect. https://gen-eco.com.au/products/plywood

04.01.2022 Following on from our previous History of Plywood post, its time to get into the details. Did you know plywood is a widely recognised eco-friendly material, given it takes very little energy to produce it? An important thing to know when youre looking for the right quality material is that plywood also falls into one of 4 face grades - A B, C & D (highest to lowest quality in that order). So when you see it being described as AC or CD the first letter always refers to the... face grade and last letter the back. Hoop Pine is often used for appearance grade, with A Face being free of knots and usually clear-finished (ceilings & walls), whereas B Face is slightly lower quality and used in shop-fitting of high quality paint finishes. C Face Radiata Pine may have filled/puttied knot holes and splits sanded back (used from DIY to large commercial projects), where D Face Radiata leaves them open, meaning theyre always the back of sheet. Well continue to post more plywood-related updates and projects right here. In the meantime, let us know if we can help with your next project! https://gen-eco.com.au/products/plywood
