Check out these tips that will keep you and your house cool and save you money: Close your curtains and blinds Keep your blinds closed to significantly cool your home. Better yet, invest in some black-out curtains. Block the heat... Stopping heat getting into your house in the first place means spending less on cooling. Shade windows and walls using external coverings, like blinds, awnings or large potted plants. Plant deciduous trees that cast shade over your home in summer, but still let the sun come in during winter. Invest in window tinting and top up your ceiling insulation. Just 1 oC more If you use your air-conditioner, set the thermostat to between 24-27oC, or as high as you feel comfortable with. Increasing your thermostat by just 1oC in warm weather can reduce the running cost of your appliance by about 10 per cent. Close doors and seal gaps Close doors to rooms you aren’t using to keep cool air where you need it most. Seal gaps around doors and windows. Evaporative air-conditioners will be more effective if you open some doors and windows to increase airflow through the home. Hang out in the evening Closing your windows and staying inside may be a great idea during the day, but when it gets cooler in the evening you may want to open your house up to cool your home naturally. Cooking dinner in the backyard or at the park may be a cooler alternative to being in a steamy kitchen too. Hope these tips help! See more
19.01.2022 Does your house need rewiring? There are several signs that you should look out for! We do recommend a full electrical safety check to identify specific issues. Age - if your home is over 50 years old and has not been rewired previously it could be that the wiring insulation is degraded or damaged. Tripping - do electrical equipment switch off and the safety switches trip for no apparent reason? This could be a sign that your electrics need some attention! Damage ...- loose or damaged wiring can cause an arch and spark which can result in a small fire. This in turn may damage your PowerPoint. You may notice some discolouration or charring or the slight melting of the PowerPoint covering. Burning smell - an unexplained burning smell in the house could suggest overheating of your electrical wiring. Flood - if your home has experienced damage from flooding or any other significant water damage (eg. from a fire hose) your wiring or the area around the wiring could become weakened or faulty. If you are unsure you should ask a qualified and certified electrician to give you an inspection. It doesn't cost as much as rebuilding your home! See more
17.01.2022 Do you know that the new Queensland smoke alarm Legislation requires that smoke alarms must be installed on: Each storey: In each bedroom In hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling if there is no hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey; and...
