25.01.2022 Its day six of LBP #MythBusting. Today, an important message: although flare-ups of #pain can be frightening, theyre often not related to #damage. Some common... triggers for a flare-up include stress, tension, low-mood, poor sleep, inactivity or activity youre not accustomed to. If you have a flare up, try to stay calm, relax, and keep #moving! If you need help with exercise, motivation or even just some reassurance that what youre doing is safe, pay your physio a visit. For more information, you can find the research here: https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2019/12/31/bjsports-2019-101611 #choosephysio #mythbusting #exerciseismedicine

17.01.2022 Chronic Pain can be really frustrating and people can spend a great deal of energy, time and money trying to work out the cause of their pain. This article explains the different types of pain and some of the tests doctors can do to help you focus on possible causes. Many people come to Physiotherapists with a pain story. It is part of our role to listen and communicate with other medical professionals. One of the things we have learned as physiotherapists is that understanding your pain can help with coping and can give patients the knowledge and confidence to set goals for themselves to continue to move, play sport or go to work. Being physically and mentally fit can help you cope with pain and often reduces its intensity and the effect it is having on your life.

If hands on treatments are required we are adapting our positions to minimise close contact. We are also cleaning the room between app...ointments. TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENTS ARE AVAILABLE PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE AND WENDY OR JO WILL CONTACT YOU TO DISCUSS THIS OPTION. Keep yourselves safe and well -contonue to exercise and eat healthy foods. 07.01.2022 Im really keen to get people walking for fitness and mental health. If you have balance issues you may want to consider walking or trekking poles. These spread the load to your arms and shoulders and can help with uneven ground to improve stability. Using your arms gives you a bit of an extra workout. I see a few people out on my walks with them and am thinking of giving them a try. Here is a short clip about how to choose poles. We may be able to help you with learning the gait pattern and selecting a good height for you to have your poles Just like we do for selecting walking sticks and frames.
07.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here is a link to a video that I have been involved with researching as part of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). It talks about the benefits of playing croquet- for all ages but particularly for older clients or clients with injuries that may prevent them from playing other sports. Whilst this is Victorian based, South Australia has a great active Croquet organisation, with come and try days regularly - check it out!

05.01.2022 Were back for another day of LBP #MythBusting fun! Today, an important message about movement: if you experience #pain when you move, it DOESNT necessarily me...an youre doing harm. The pain you may feel during exercise is reflective not of damage to your back, but often rather sensitivity of the spine and surrounding muscles. This pain is normal, and will usually settle with time. Its also important to note that exercise is one of THE most effective ways to treat pain. If you need help with exercise, or even just some reassurance that what youre doing is safe, pay your physio a visit. For more information, you can find the research here: https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2019/12/31/bjsports-2019-101611 #choosephysio #mythbusting #exerciseismedicine

01.01.2022 Lets not be so afraid of a meniscal tear Tears in the meniscus and the rotator cuff muscles are often just normal age-related changes and nothing to worry ab...out. Sometimes, surgery can be the best option of course. Our clinical reasoning is always very important! You can learn a lot about knee OA from the lectures from prof. Ewa Roos and Soren Skou on: www.trustme-ed.com Great post by @movementpainpt! There's interesting article cited in Dr. Ian Harris' book "Surgery, the ultimate placebo" The small inconsequential benefit seen from interventions that include arthroscopy for the degenerative knee is limited in time and absent at one to two years after surgery. Knee arthroscopy is associated with harms. Taken together, these findings do not support the practice of arthroscopic surgery for middle-aged or older patients with knee pain with or without signs of osteoarthritis.
