14.01.2022 A colleague of ours recently lost his beautiful son Massimo to a rare genetic condition. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to him and his family at this very sad time in their lives. This family worked tirelessly to find a diagnosis for their son, and changed the way that the genetics and scientific communities now approach the challenge of finding the genetic cause of a childs rare, undiagnosed condition. Massimos father Stephen Damiani is the Counsyl Australia representati...ve and thanks to him, we have access to one of the worlds leading pre-conception carrier tests for genetic conditions, called the Foresight Carrier Screen, available through our clinic. This tests for 176 serious and potentially treatable genetic conditions, ideally performed for couples before pregnancy. 03.01.2022 We agree with this incredible couples campaign for government funding for preconception carrier screening to be offered free to all couples planning a pregnancy in Australia. Nobody should go through what this incredible family have had to endure. Its just so very sad and preventable. Genetic Clinics Australia aims to make this type of testing available to all Australian couples through our accessible GP based genetic counselling clinic. While testing is not yet free, we believe all couples have the right to know about these testing options and to decide for themselves.
