22.01.2022 Scaffolding the children's interest in bugs today they enjoyed a bug hunt in the garden.

22.01.2022 We are looking a Sustainability this term as part of Genius programs they offer. If any families would like to donate boxes, egg cartons ect that would be lovely. If any families do not recycle their 10c drink bottles or cans we will gladly take them and cash them in for resources for the centre. Please contact me should you have any questions or concerns. 21.01.2022 Going on a bug hunt...

21.01.2022 We were asked to send in some photos of your veggie garden that the children planted using plants from Buddies a community organisation that supplied the plants to us. We received a Highly Commended for our veggie gardens and a gift voucher. We are very excited and the children are still looking after their garden.

21.01.2022 One of the children found a bee this morning so all of the children gathered around to see the bees buzzing around the flowers. We had a discussion about bees and why they like the flowers and why we shouldnt pick the flowers. We also dressed up as butterflies and flew around the garden looking for pollen. We followed up by taking a look at insects on the computer, the different types and what they all eat and do. At Genius Highfields each child's current knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of the program. (NQF1.1.2)

21.01.2022 We have a impromptu visit from our local Police this morning. They were pulled up a cross the road and a parent from our centre asked them if they could visit our children. Our children were very excited and were asking lots of questions. Thank you to our local Police, you gave the children a wonderful experience.

14.01.2022 Today to develop our gross motor skills through some fun we used our parachute to play some parachute games. Parachute play also promotes team work and listening skills. Did you know that the National Quality Framework advocates that "a quality educational program views children as capable and competent learners who have agency and learn best through a play-based program."?

Our army of robot cat, dogs and sheep coming together nicely with some children starting a first layer of paint. 06.01.2022 After their bush kindy visit last Monday the children discussed why they could not find any butterflies and as a result they decided to create a colourful butterfly for outside in their garden. Miss Jay created a weaving activity in the shape of a butterfly that provided both a topic of interest and an interest in and an ongoing project.

05.01.2022 Yesterday in Kindergarten the children learnt about ways to stay healthy. They enjoyed three different activities to explore healthy eating. In their first activity they enjoyed a visit from Miss Tegan as she shared a cooking activity with them. The children cut and grated some delicious salad ingredients to make a salad. You might wonder if the children ate fresh beetroot from our garden, crunchy carrots, crisp lettuce, cool cucumber and sweet capsicums they absolutely did! As a fun extension they also did fruit stamping. The pears, apples, kiwi fruits and strawberries made lovely patterns on the paper, and as they stamped we discussed fruits that we love. At Genius we often use cooking experiences to further children's understandings of healthy food and nutrition.

05.01.2022 Thank you to our wonderful community member Eunice for making some lovely dolls clothes for us. We visited Eunice last week to drop off some pre loved material for her to use. We are now eagerly waiting for Eunice to make us some up cycled table cloths. Thank you Eunice for you hard work our children love the new dolls clothes.

04.01.2022 So much fun but there is more! Colour selection, taking turns, sharing and hand eye coordination. At Genius Highfields educators plan programs that are responsive to children's knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests.

04.01.2022 Today the children started their bee hive project. First we had a quick discussion about the bee hives and watched a short video clip. Then we proceeded to the fun stuff. It involved mixing some glue, cutting news paper and sticking it to a balloon to make the frame for our hive. All the children participated in this sensory experience, getting their hands messy and exploring the different textures. We will continue to add to our bee hive over the week/s.

02.01.2022 Our children had a wonderful time creating a Unicorn. We placed some empty boxes on a mat outside to see what the children would come up with. They were very excited and a lot of discussion was taking place around what they would create. We think the children have created a beautiful Unicorn.
