12.01.2022 IS TEA TREE OIL (MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA) TOXIC FOR DOGS AND CATS? In truth, from everything we have researched, the only issues of toxicity with dogs (and cats) and Melaleuca Alternifolia/Tea Tree were in cases of either ludicrously high concentrations or very poor quality oil, or both. Tea Tree is an Essential Oil that commands respect, but unfortunately it has not received it from supermarkets, pharmacies, commercial retailers and the general public. This has led to confus...ion about its toxicity for dogs and cats. Let us put it this way we do not find our top quality Essential Oils in the cleaning section of the supermarket or at bargain chemists! If you wish to use Tea Tree, be sensible and consider concentration, dilution and quality very carefully. And it is worth noting that incidences of adverse effects from natural substances is far less than with those from synthesised drugs and medications. (K.L. If you're wondering if the footpath is too hot for your dog's feet, an easy way to test is the 5 second rule: Place your hand on the footpath and if you can leave it in place for more than 5 seconds, you and your best buddy are good to go.... Of course we all know a zero second rule applies to everything that drops from the dinner table!
