24.01.2022 4 months. It is NOT the ‘4 month regression’. Don’t let anyone tell you your baby is regressing.. They need you.
24.01.2022 Essential viewing. Georgina Dowden (Midwife/IBCLC) and Dr Howard Chilton (Paediatrician and Neonatologist) discuss infant sleep, feeding and loads more! https://www.facebook.com/WaterWipesAusNZ/videos/1615273945291257/
24.01.2022 An ongoing issue is the automatic routine that so many are told to follow, for no good reason. Watch your baby, not the clock!
23.01.2022 This is so deeply important... There must be, for the benefit of the babies that you tend to, a recognition of the biological needs of the mother-baby dyad regardless of their medical conditions and a willingness to dismantle and rebuild a system that serves that dyad.
19.01.2022 This is me today... minus the baby, but still.
19.01.2022 A great consult today with such a lovely family! Gorgeous baby Jordan and his mum and Dad @immipanda and Nico. Our consult today showed the longterm issues that can result when there’s minimal to no community follow-up or support. When families go home from hospital on feeding plans and triple feeding (breastfeeding, topping up, pumping)... it’s vital to have follow-up and support in place to help families wean off formula when the aim is to exclusively breastfeed. ... Baby Jordan was born right when Covid hit Australia and we went into lockdown in Sydney... and many postnatal health services stopped doing home visits, making support even more difficult to find. Hopefully they’re now on the way to increasing breastfeeding and milk supply, starting solids (Jordan is showing signs of being ready to start tasting some family foods) and finally, the possibility of weaning him from formula! A consult with @gentle_breastfeeding includes unlimited follow-up via text/messaging because I don’t believe support shouldn’t be limited to just a few weeks. #gentlebreastfeeding #gentleparenting #respectfulparenting #breastfeeding #lactation #lactationconsultant #sydney #breastfeedingsupport #parentingsupport

16.01.2022 For my friends and colleagues in the maternity field!
15.01.2022 An easy and comfortable way to carry a baby. Traditional carries are often the easiest. I carried William like this too!
12.01.2022 A good reminder that our babies and children are people and their feelings matter. It’s not funny to watch a distressed infant trying to escape from someone they don’t know and find terrifying...
12.01.2022 Apologies for being so quiet lately! Much needed surgery 2 weeks ago means I’m out of action for the next 6 weeks or so! Plaster coming off tomorrow and then a boot while my foot and ankle learns to be walked on normally again! Working on some much needed education and updates while I’m recovering, so keep an eye out! #surgery #plantarfasciarupture #plantarfasciarelease #bonespur #ganglioncystremoval #ouch #tendonrepair #convalescence #workinprogress

08.01.2022 Babies only NEED.. they don’t want.
07.01.2022 One of my most loathed terms people use when asking or talking about babies. Babies are neither good, nor bad. They’re just babies within a very broad range of normal. A ‘good’ baby is considered one who doesn’t wake frequently or cry when they need someone/something... that’s not actually normal or healthy.
06.01.2022 Normalise breastfeeding!
06.01.2022 Scheduled feeds are inherently disrespectful and purposely refusing to offer food, a drink or comfort to someone who needs it is cruel. It’s not acceptable to do this to an adult, so why do people still advise that we do this to babies? Why?
06.01.2022 This. This is everything!
05.01.2022 I’ve been super quiet on insta of late and this is why! @gentle_breastfeeding is transforming in a pretty big way! I’ve been renovating (well, someone else transformed a window into a doorway for me!), sanding, painting trims and doors and washing down walls. Getting ready for the next stage of painting the walls. This is all to enable me to help more families on their breastfeeding and parenting pathways. A safe and soothing environment, a learning and supportive space for... all. I’m still doing home visits when able at the moment though. If you need assistance, feel free to DM! #breastfeeding #lactation #parenting #gentleparenting #gentlebreastfeeding #consultroom #breastfeedingsupport #babies #mumlife #pregnancy #antenatal
04.01.2022 Custom orders available for a very short time. (Orders to be made by Monday 8pm).
04.01.2022 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XZae0tz8RPE Perpetuating the myths of breastfeeding... There is a continuing problem with information being shared that is speculative as well as blatantly inaccurate or incorrect and it being presented as fact. ... This animation appears to be popping up again from a few years ago and it’s perfect to show that updated information is essential to breastfeeding support. For the most glaring inaccuracy here, we see (and hear the narrator, who isn’t a lactation specialist) this animation of the infant’s tongue dragging along the stretched nipple to extract milk in those cute little squirts. Unfortunately, that’s not how breastfeeding works. ‘Stripping’ milk from the nipple was an assumption made many years ago. We have evidence to show that this is completely inaccurate and not what happens when babies breastfeed. Research shows that a vacuum is created (intraoral vacuum) when the jaw drops and the tongue follows DOWNWARDS to draw milk from the breast. This also means that the lift that is being discussed in the animation is also inaccurate as the research also shows that the tongue only needs to lift approx 4mm just before that jaw drop occurs to create the vacuum, thus allowing effective breastfeeding. The narrator also comments that the upper lip needs to flange out in order to have a deep/good latch. Unfortunately, this is also incorrect information. The top lip does not need to flange out and in fact, is often a sign of a shallow latch, not a deep one. The top lip merely needs to sit in a neutral or very slightly everted position on the breast. The animation also shows the ‘lip tie’ that goes to the lower part of the top gum, and suggests that it is abnormal or need to be cut. What you see there is a very NORMAL lip and frenulum (so, not a tie at all). Over 95% of babies have a lip frenulum like that, making it normal oral anatomy. The narrator also shows a ‘posterior Tongue Tie’ as one that can’t be seen but probably needs to be cut as well as it can impact breastfeeding. There is no evidence....
03.01.2022 It’s biologically normal for you and your baby to nod off during or after breastfeeding...
02.01.2022 Gentle parenting doesn’t mean having no boundaries. Teaching our toddlers that it’s ok to wait a bit and that sometimes other things need to happen is ok. Be gentle and understand that waiting is hard for young brains (it’s not easy for older brains sometimes too!!).
01.01.2022 Sometimes hanging out with your child looks like this... at the Hand Trauma Clinic for a while. William broke his finger in 2 places at school last week and was in a cast. Had cast removed, then to the hand therapy dept for the cutest wee splint made by the Occupational Therapist! He wanted the cast off but now it’s more exposed and a bit sore tonight. Back in 2 weeks to see the physiotherapist for follow up. We went to lunch afterwards and it was just a nice day to connect and be together (he’s 10... He’d rather hang out with an iPad ). #kidshospital #westmeadchildrenshospital #gentleparenting #reconnection
01.01.2022 So true. Why are so many families told to train emotion and providing comfort out of our babies and children?
01.01.2022 Scary that so many failed safety tests! Please check your bassinet to make sure it’s not on this list and that it is safe to use!
01.01.2022 It’s long but so worth the read...
