25.01.2022 The new Reservoir Station and the connection between the high streets is now open. At the beginning of the year, trains began travelling on the brand new elevated rail corridor while traffic flowed beneath, providing the 36,000 vehicles and numerous pedestrians and commuters that travel through this intersection daily a safer and more reliable journey. The finishing touches to the station will be finalised in the coming weeks marking the completion of another transport projec...t for our Genton team, working with the North Western Program Alliance. 25.01.2022 Physical models were central to the communication of our team’s vision for the Powerhouse Parramatta. To produce these deliverables, we had the privilege of working closely with Architectural modelmakers, Kink Studio, who went above and beyond to bring the design to life in physical form. The Moreau Kusunoki and Genton team's models, along with all of the other submissions, are now a part of the MAAS’s extensive collection of over 500,000 pieces.

24.01.2022 Standing on a ridgeline, and bordered on two sides by major roads, Reservoir Station occupies a prominent site that is highly visible from the surrounding streets. Over time, though, the development of the two major roads and the on-grade rail line had created a barrier between two of Reservoir’s retail strips, Edwardes Street and Broadway. A key driver of Genton’s urban design strategy was to re-connect these two disparate high streets by creating a welcoming and exciting ce...ntral public space, which celebrates local culture and history, enhancing the pedestrian experience and contributing to the activation of the broader retail precinct. 23.01.2022 "The Jury found the proposal to be a standout, simple and elegant solution, with a strong identity derived from the building’s architecture and structure. The generosity of space, transparency and lightness of the structure created a ‘sense of joy’ that encapsulates the ambitions of Powerhouse Parramatta". 22.01.2022 Steven Toia and Marc Debney are pleased to announce that Senior Associate, Jamie McCutcheon, has been named as a Principal within our Genton team. The decision to elevate Jamie’s role at Genton is a clear recognition of his commitment to quality design and leadership, as well as a reflection of our continued growth as a practice.

22.01.2022 Render vs. Reality. Artist impressions greatly improve the way we are able to communicate our vision with our clients and project stakeholders throughout the design process. On completion, we take pride in reflecting back over the artist impressions to see how closely the Architecture aligns with the original vision.... See for yourself. 20.01.2022 The Urban-Design led scheme for Frankston Station includes significant upgrades to the surrounding precinct to enhance, activate and improve connectivity to the local community and visitors. 18.01.2022 Reservoir Station is now complete. Located in central Reservoir, and highly visible from the surrounding streets, the new station creates a strong sense of arrival and identity for the precinct and suburb. The light and undulating canopy floats above the elevated platforms, extending down around the rail culvert, and referencing Reservoir's historical past as a key provider of water for Melbourne. Since the station opened to passengers in December last year, crews have spent ...the past six months completing a new civic plaza and rejuvenating the station precinct by planting 300 trees and 60,000 shrubs and grasses. You can read the full announcement on the Level Crossing Removal Project website: https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au//works-at-reservoir-stat

17.01.2022 Kinglake Village is a carefully designed community hub, bringing together a mix of retail, hospitality and commercial spaces, into one precinct, providing a new focal point for the Kinglake community. The porosity of the masterplan enables pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles to move through the site, under the shelter of the barn-style roofs, to explore boutiques, galleries, hospitality and retail in one iconic regional location.

17.01.2022 Last week our transport team, led by Jamie McCutcheon, visited Reservoir Station to take a look at the progress being made onsite as the project nears completion. "Reservoir station is not just a landmark station for the local community, it is also a catalyst for change and means of reconnecting the eastern and western high streets. Genton are proud to have delivered this project alongside our partners KBR Inc. and John Holland Group" says Jamie.

16.01.2022 Sustainability may have become a buzz word in some sectors but when it comes to the Architecture and interior design of residential apartments and mixed-use buildings, its truth can only be found in a considered approach that includes well-planned elements with a focus on liveability. 16.01.2022 The public’s relationship with public spaces is evolving and for our own architectural and design vision that means that research, consultation, experience and mindful insights are all critical ingredients in quality, thoughtful design.

16.01.2022 It's fantastic to see progress being made on the Parramatta Light Rail, with construction underway on the much loved Eat Street. The NSW State Governments $2.4B investment in the project, linking Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD, will significantly contribute to the pedestrianisation and walkability of the vibrant and hospitality precinct and CBD more broadly.

15.01.2022 Genton recently provided pro-bono design services to Kids Like Us, who work with twice-exceptional students on their educational journey, for the new Tombolo Academy. The concept is a design guideline for a flexible educational environment facilitating ‘strength based’ learning according to the unique learning plan of each individual student. The design direction for the interior fit-out draws upon a domestic familiarity and sensibility combined with hints of the whimsical fo...und in youth fantasy literature. 15.01.2022 The prevalence of natural light is one of the most important considerations in designing residential Architecture. Exposure to sunlight is linked to improvements in our wellbeing and mood, and in the home, natural light can make a room feel more comfortable and spacious. 14.01.2022 North Avoca Beachside Residences is an award-winning multi-generational apartment alteration designed by Genton. Located on the foreshore at idyllic North Avoca in NSW, the project involved the transformation and extension of a 1970s block of four apartments. The result was North Avoca Beachside Residences, featuring four house-size residences of between three to five bedrooms. Each of the four distinct apartments are intertwined throughout three pavilions, with sectional articulation in floor-level, light admission and clever planning to combine privacy with social interaction in the shared external spaces.

14.01.2022 Following the success of our award-winning Frankston Station project, our team is looking forward to the completion of our next major railway-related project. The unique site conditions of Reservoir Station presented a new range of opportunities requiring an alternative design strategy to Frankston, but, underpinning every decision is the same attention to community contribution and collaborative communication that has enabled the opportunities presented by the context to gen...uinely inform the project as one that is truly for people. The new elevated station reconnects two separate retail precincts, Edwardes Street and Broadway, and further enhances this connection by creating a new open-air civic plaza under the cover of the floating canopy. Reservoir Station has been open to the public since December and is on-track for total completion in the coming months.

13.01.2022 Intelligent design is about understanding the essential foundations of architectural practice and then expanding on that knowledge to explore innovation and push the boundaries of architecture in a way that reflects a people-centric focus.

12.01.2022 The Sydney Processing Centre was awarded in 3 categories at the 2017 Australian Institute of Architects NSW Architecture Awards, including Commercial Architecture, Interior Architecture and Sustainable Architecture. In the judges’ words, from the AIA NSW Awards publication: Despite our expectation that data processing is reliable and ever-present, it is unlikely that many would consider what physical infrastructure supports this facility, let alone that architecture could play a positive and meaningful role in such an environment. The Sydney Processing Centre is a showcase for architectural innovation challenging conventional engineering wisdom: transforming inefficient, generic industry standards into a highly sustainable and robust facility, which is both excellent to work in and simple to operate and maintain.

12.01.2022 The Sydney Processing Centre design process was an exercise in humanising Architecture in advanced technical spaces. With ever increasing technical requirements in technology-laden buildings, it's important not to lose sight of the fact that these spaces are ultimately also occupied by the people who work within them. By reconsidering our design intervention from first principles we were able to sensitively reimagine internal spaces within the brutalist shell to provide a com...fortable and calming workspace, while ensuring compliance with the client and engineer’s technical requirements. Intelligent Architecture is applying a people-centric approach at all stages of design. 10.01.2022 A successful public space is a catalyst for the spaces around it enhancing and activating an entire precinct, through the quality of the design and the uniqueness of the idea that the space embodies".

10.01.2022 Genton's Frankston Station project has been awarded 'Gold' at the 2020 Good Design Awards in the Architectural Design: Urban Design and Public Spaces category. Frankston Station was, from conception, an urban design-led scheme inspired by the objective of enhancing the broader retail precinct, and creating a new gateway to the beachfront destination, says Genton Principal Jamie McCutcheon. We are humbled by the recognition of our efforts, which motivates us further to de...liver quality urban design outcomes on our future rail and transport projects. This important win - announced as part of Good Design Week - is the sixth design award the project has received and the second in the Urban Design category. 06.01.2022 On Friday we had yet another great meeting with our team who are still mostly working from home. It is hard to believe it has almost been three months since we were all together in our offices. Fortunately, our transition to operating remotely has been near seamless. Our Melbourne and Sydney teams regularly collaborate on projects so working online and communicating via Teams is part of our regular practice. We are all keen to get back into the office together and are hopeful this will not be too far away. But for now, we will keep looking forward to our regular online catch-ups.

04.01.2022 It’s fantastic to see construction progressing at the Morris Moor site. Here is a time lapse of some recent progress at the site, social distancing included. Morris Moor is the adaptive re-use of a series of former Phillip Morris factory buildings into a vibrant commercial and hospitality precinct. The masterplan and architecture is intended to celebrate the original industrial buildings, stripping back inconsistent additions to celebrate the inherent beauty of the historic ...architecture, with new insertions to increase permeability and improve presence and potential uses. At completion, the site will host over 50,000sqm of technical and creative office space, cafes, restaurants as well as a child care facility.

03.01.2022 Reservoir Station is another completed train station project from the Genton team, expanding on ideas and exploration from the award-winning design of Frankston Station. The emphasis on the celebration of local history and future potential is guided by a commitment to activating the local precinct for everyone who lives, works or passes through the area. The station is the first elevated rail project in Melbourne’s northern suburbs a project delivered by the North West Prog...ram Alliance, which includes the Level Crossing Removal Project, Metro Trains Melbourne, John Holland and KBR. 02.01.2022 Genton devised the masterplan for a series of high-quality, owner-occupier townhouses in West Melbourne. Each of the individual townhouses will enjoy a detached interface connected by a communal above ground car park. The townhouses will offer residents larger living spaces, spread across either three to four levels, appointed with luxury interiors. Careful consideration has been given to the streetscape to create privacy, which gives a sense of seclusion within the precinct.

02.01.2022 Intelligent design is about understanding the essential foundations of Architectural practice and expanding on that knowledge to explore innovation and push the boundaries of Architecture in a way that reflects a people-centric focus. We are dedicated to delivering projects that meet the discerning and evolving needs and desires of the real people that will utilise and enjoy the built forms and spaces around them. This creates positive outcomes that add value to the local environment in intelligent ways.
