23.01.2022 GEN-X: PAYING TRIBUTE TO A GENERATION OF GREAT MUSIC! Today there are many tribute bands, sounding like the original artist, playing much loved and well known songs. But what makes a great tribute band? Does the band need to look and sound just like the original, or is it enough to ‘tribute’ the original band and re-interpret the song or artist in some way? An excellent venue for tribute bands on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland is the Caloundra RSL. Tribute bands are ofte...n part of the free entertainment provided while enjoying an evening or lunch time meal. Their restaurant menu includes daily catches and the freshest seafood, also providing the cheaper option of a Fastlane Lunch for only $7! Recently the RSL showed The Roy Orbison Tribute Show. Athol Matcham looks and sounds just like the Big ‘O’ with a vocal range that gives him the ability to deliver those unique tones that Roy Orbison was so famous and loved for. He is also backed by an outstanding band with an excellent drum routine. Based in Queensland, if you’re a fan of the Big ‘O’ and get the opportunity to see the show they’re well worth a look. GENX-duo is consistent with what is commonly known as a COVER BAND, in that we play various songs by other artists. We have a broad love for music with no particular artist or genre in mind. Typically our interests come from the classics we grew up with; that were popular in that era, so our influences are vast and varied. Artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Abba, Simon & Garfunkel, and Elton John have made their mark. Early childhood memories from our parents have also influenced us to perform some hits from the 60s such as The Beatles, Roy Orbison and Elvis. Of course like everyone we have our leading influences. Gav is quick to mention The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd. I love the ladies of rock such as Melissa Etheridge, Pat Benatar and Chrissy from the Divinyls. Staying true to ourselves, our song list is developing Gen-X into a band that is ‘honoring the hits’ of our generation; that is Generation X. Sometimes we sound like the original and sometimes we don’t. Claiming we’re a tribute band could be debatable, but we are continuing to develop a list of AUSTRALIAN, AMERICAN AND BRITISH HITS, paying tribute to what we grew up with, celebrated with, and what connects us with our memories. Our music defines who we are. What hits do you think define you? What ‘hits’ were your favourites? http://www.caloundrarsl.com.au/

21.01.2022 THE ROLLING STONES ARE READY TO ROLL Adelaide fans will be now counting down the hours if they’re lucky enough to have tickets for The Rolling Stone’s first Australian performance. The '2014 On Fire Tour' starts tomorrow night at Adelaide Oval, and according to the Melbourne Herald Sun there will be 53,000 fans inside the Oval to help get the party started. Not to mention the significant numbers who are expected to be listening from outside the Oval in Elder Park. The stage s...etup sounds incredible, as according to the Sydney Morning Herald’s write-up on the 22nd of October the stage features the biggest video wall ever seen in Australia with the entire stage setup transported from Europe in 52 Shipping Containers. The more ‘intimate arena format’ planned for the other Australian venues will certainly by no means be considered under-elaborate! Let’s face it these guys have been doing this for a long time, so there can be no doubt that all their shows are going to be performed with a high amount of class. Production Manager Dale ‘Opie’ Skjerseth who has been touring with the Stones since 1994, says that Everything [on stage] has to be flat.it’s got to be perfectly the way they want it for their feet smooth, clear. The same as it’s always been. The pace and the energy from Mick and the rest of the band is outstanding. Having a smooth, clear, flat runway is perfectly understandable, if not necessary! The Rolling Stones Twitter page at https://twitter.com/RollingStones has asked Australian fans what songs they want the band to play. Not surprisingly, our requests would be Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Brown Sugar (on the GenX playlist). There are many others to choose from, any thoughts? http://www.smh.com.au//the-stage-is-set-for-the-rolling-st
