22.01.2022 A 5-Day, 2275km, trip up to Mt Elvire Station, and some of the surrounding WA goldfieds with my mate John.

22.01.2022 Recently I went for a trip up to Mt Elvire Station with my mate John. The trip, home and back, covered 2275 km. Day 1 - We started at Southern Cross and travelled through Koolyanobbing and into the Aurora Ranges. After exploring a few tracks in and around the ranges we continued our journey to Mt Elvire Station where we camped for the night. Although facilities are sparse, the old station still provides a unique insight into WA’s pastoral history. Day 2 - We set off fr4om... the homestead to explore several tracks on the station, including one up to the peak of Mt Elvire. From there we had a 3600 view of the surrounding features, including WA’s 2nd largest lake, Lake Barlee. Day 3 - We headed off towards Creado Station, exploring a few historical goldfield town sites, Orabanda Hotel and Rowles Lagoon. Our stay overnight at Creado Station was excellent. The host was very welcoming and the camp ground is large, and the facilities are fresh and clean. Day 4 - We set out through Credo’s black blocks towards Jaurdi Station. On the way we passed through several old mine sites and abandon towns, including several historic wells and dams. We also found a well-maintained grave of an unknown person who died in 1910. Due to severe thunder storms forecasted for that evening, our planned camp at Mt Palmer was to changed and we spend the night in Southern Cross. Day 5 - We travelled to Mt Palmer and explored some of what was once a prosperous town in its day. The most visible feature today is an entrance arch to the old Mt Palmer hotel. The hotel was later dismantled and the bricks taken to Kalgoorlie. From Mt Palmer we followed the Emu Fence Road south to look at the 1944 crash site of a RAAF Vultee Vengeance aircraft. Not that further on we explored Mulka’s Cave, a site that contains indigenous hand stencils. From there we headed into Hyden to refuel and have a pie at their excellent bakery. From there we followed the blacktop home. Thanks John for your company on this trip. Let’s hope there are many more. Photos are in the photo album 'Mt Elvire Adventure'. See more

21.01.2022 It's nearly that time when we pack the truck with all the camping gear and family and head off to our favourite spot. I thought this article was timely reminder about being a responsible 4WD owner: https://www.bridgestonetyres.com.au/7-things-responsible-4w

20.01.2022 This sounds like fun. I don't have much in the way of details at the moment.

05.01.2022 Ouch! Don't use your towball to snatch off.

03.01.2022 You know you want to do it :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQCoKBCiayA

02.01.2022 Another example of what could happen when equipment fails.

01.01.2022 Ford Ranger recall due to possible fire risk. I think most 4x4s would be susceptible to a fire risk given the right conditions. Stop and check often for grass build up in areas close to exhaust components appears to be a sensible preventative measure.
