22.01.2022 At GBYC we have decided to move this event to next weekend!
21.01.2022 GBYC update 21/11/2020 Sorry for the lateness of this report! Saturday saw the running of the club heat 3 Breeze was from the Nw at 16kn swinging W as the day p...rogressed! Five boats faced the starter with meat and two veg in the shed due to the increasing breeze. This suited Norma as Greg was away with family commitments so Kiara Sims and Dusty Hedley hopped on board with Craig Francis. The race was over a long Olympic course with the top mark in the vicinity of the four mile reef for those that know fishing. All boats were close together with Amber Dreams just in front. As the breeze had swung the second leg was a blistering two sail reach keeping the crews on their toes! Great fun! The rest of the race saw Amber Dreams stay in front slightly with the rest of the fleet trading places right up until the finish! Unfortunately No Regrets had a capsize at the bottom mark for the last time resulting in a broken mast(these guys are certainly cleaning out the sheds of the sharpie guys of unused spars). Good news is they will be back on Saturday Final places 1st Amber Dreams Laurie Francis, Rob nail and new permanent crew Finn Manning! 2nd The Uninvited Mozz Jeffrey Casellas and James Newtin 3rd Norma Craig Francis Kiara Sims and Dusty Hedley, good work from a couple of juniors 4th Suicide blonde Pete Cuthbert Kain Ayres and Paula Fels DNF No regrets Jamie Stewart Jessica Sims and Paul Sims! Normal proceedings took place under the tree of knowledge to finish of a top day! This Saturday is short course series 2 In the morning we have Kid in Sharpies Gbyc If we could have a couple of boats down the club about 10.30ish to give the pelican kids and maybe some of the tackers a spin Weather looks ideal for that in the morning before picking up for the arvo race Cheers for the support! Club fees are overdue if you’ve not paid them! Till Saturday Pete C Busso

20.01.2022 FLIRTING WITH DEATH! On Easter Sunday in 1923, well-known 22 foot yacht, the Arlene, was cruising half a mile off Rottnest. Suddenly, a strong puff of wind fill...ed its main sail and heeled the boat over. "Casting its human freight, consisting of twenty-two, men, women and children, into the water". The drama was captured by Fremantle photographer, Abraham (Izzy) Orloff. The yacht owned by Mr Moss Myslis, capsized in a spot that was "particularly treacherous". In the vicinity of a number of reefs and in waters "infested with sharks". The Zephyr ferry was going passed full speed at the time, but when she saw the drama, immediately stopped and quickly lowered the vessel’s dinghy into the water. Other boats too came to help. They included the 'Caledonia', who rescued four young ladies who by all accounts "took their dunking in good spirit". And the 'Salopia'. Rescue work was difficult owing to the strong south-west breeze. Women and children were picked up first, while men clung on to the capsized boat. Eventually a line was connected to the Arlene and the yacht towed into shore. Had it not been for the prompt rescue, several lives would probably have been lost. Fortunately "the final result was nothing worse than a fright and a thorough wetting a damp adventure for those concerned". In the days to follow however, the Call newspaper warned that there was going to be "a heart-rendering tally of dead one of these summers", if the foolish practices of a "few" yachtsmen were not "voluntarily or forcibly stopped". While the Call reporter had no doubt that Mr Myslis "sailed his boat well". That he was "reasonably intelligent" and had "the best intentions in the world" when he set out to Rottnest that day, in this case "his judgment was rotten". The Arlene was accustomed to carrying fifteen crew in a race, but twenty-two people, not all could swim, was a vastly different risk. It’s a yachtsman’s duty to remember that he and not the passenger, knows the danger of the sea, and it is for him to judge what is a fair thing and what isn’t. wrote the reporter. There are two kinds of yachtsmen who are a menace on the river", the article went on to say. "One which overloads the boat with a crowd of girls and even kiddies, and the other which fills up every available place with beer and makes itself a menace on the seas and a nuisance on the shore. However good hearted Mr Myslis was and however willing to accommodate friends aboard a boat, the reporter trusted that he would never attempt this "perilous prank" again. Have you ever had to be rescued on sea or land? Or have you ever had to go to the rescue? Share your rescue stories here... 20.01.2022 An excellent turnout of Tasars for the TAWA State Championship. These are some of the photos from a great day of sailing. Perfect conditions for some close racing. Thanks to MOFSC for putting on some excellent racing for the class.
20.01.2022 Cover up and be SunSmart like these Geographe Bay Yacht Club On Water Volunteers looking dapper after a big day on the water. Geographe Bay Yacht Club is proud to be a SunSmart Club! You spend more time in the sun than you think. Anywhere you go, UV from the sun will damage unprotected skin and it just keeps adding up. 19.01.2022 GBYC update Hi Sharpie sailors Well the season is about to kick off yet again although a very different winter from the previous ones! Hopefully you all have c...ome to the end of a forever expanding Covit home job list With just three days to put the finishing touches to the sharpies before opening day! The prezzo lunch at EFYC was an enjoyable catch up for those that attended! On the home front Amber Dreams was back in the shed early in the winter after Rob did what maintenance was needed! No regrets has had a big makeover with a paint job and new sign work! Even spied a couple of new shirts being modeled by the Sims crew! Looking good Paul and Jess! Suicide blonde is nearly ready, having been delayed by aforementioned job list, also a fireplace and beer fridge to pass before you reach the sharpie caused a few distractions! A big push tomorrow should see her ready to go! Not sure on the Uninvited progress but am sure Mozz will have it as ready as it was when it last sailed! Rumors of a fifth boat on the water are around but with no real substance to them at this point so time will tell! Looking forward to Saturday Hope to see you all there! The tree of knowledge is waiting! Cheers and good sailing to all! Pete C Busso See more

14.01.2022 And the kids in action on Kids Sail Sharpies day at GBYC
14.01.2022 GBYC update mk 2 28th November Saw the running of the kids in sharpies Gbyc and round two of the short course series! Morning breeze was 5 to 10kn south perfec...t for the juniors of which about a dozen took part all of whom had a ball thanks to all who helped make it a success! The afternoon saw four boats make the start for the first race.At this point may I make mention of new junior skipper Kiara Sims who couldn’t sail because of a fracture in her elbow caused by falling off her bike whilst coming home from the brewery . What a legend for a fifteen year old! Big future in the class!! Should point out that Kiara works in the brewery restaurant before her mum rings! The breeze had picked up to 19kn gusting to 22kn in race one on the start building to 26kn by 4oclock! A good length course gave some good rides and saw some relatively close racing until Suicide blonde Pete Cuthbert Kain Ayers and Paula Fels, the Uninvited Mozz, Jeffrey Casellas and James newtin and Norma Craig Francis,Greg Stewart and Russell smith all took a trip to the piss allowing Amber Dreams to take a comfortable win! Ok snow? Race two had a course change to allow for the SW breeze Amber Dreams was first away at the start(by about ten seconds)and had to reround allowing the rest of the fleet to get away ! Norma led the uninvited around the top mark as Amber Dreams made up some ground only to hit the mark once again rerounding to open a gap! Norma was looking comfortable stony the bottom for the second time as Amber Dreams overtook The Uninvited at the mark. Up the third work Norma who had made big gains by staying out to sea decided to tack in shore for some reason allowing the rampaging Amber Dreams Laurie Francis, rob nail and Josh beard to take the lead and rocket around the rest of the course to win from Norma and The Uninvited Well done all on a good race! Hopefully see all six boats in the water next week with No Regrets James Stewart, Jessica Sims and Paul Sims all repaired and ready to go for the all in Bill Steele memorial! See you then Pete C Busso ps thanks Dennis Grimwood and Kiara Sims for the photos
13.01.2022 GBYC OPENING DAY Thanks Libby Mettam for kicking off our season.
12.01.2022 GBYC update 7/11/2020 Short course series Well, with the generosity of KimTaylor and the long awaited reemergence of Norma we saw six sharpies on the lawn getti...ng rigged. With a mixture of seniors and juniors the place was buzzing! With the youngest in Luke at ten years old and the oldest a fair bit older the mix was pleasing to see showing a strong future of the class. Boats on the day were Meat and two veg Kiara Sims, Dusty ? and Merv Forster No Regrets Jamie Stewart, Paul Sims and Jessica Sims Norma Craig Francis,Luke? Greg Stewart Amber Dreams Laurie FrancisRob Nail and Gavin Suicide Blonde Pete Cuthbert Kain Ayres and Paula Fels The Uninvited Mozz Jeffrey Casellas and James Newtin Racing commenced in a pleasant 10kn NW breeze and racing was close throughout the three laps of the first race and only minutes separating the fleet at the end! Amber Dreams took the chocolates in race one from Meat and two veg and The uninvited Race two saw a build in the breeze to 12 to 15 kn from the WNW again racing was close throughout the race the wind was steady in direction hence not rewarding or penalizing any particular tack. After another good race again only a few minutes separating the fleet! First was Amber Dreams Second Norma Third Meat and two veg Apologies if these results aren’t right! After a great day a few beers were consumed under the tree of knowledge then at the bar! Well done to all competitors See you next week Pete C Busso

08.01.2022 Vale Sue Olsen, On behalf of Geographe Bay Yacht Club, it is great sadness we farewell Sue. Beloved wife of our PRO Robin. Sue was always working behind the scenes to make our regattas run smoothly. She ran the results and handicaps quietly and efficiently.... She and Robin would bring their caravan down to Busselton and treated the whole regatta as a getaway. Sue never asked for any recognition and was humble as she accepted a small thank you from the Club. Sue, we miss you already and promise our sailing community will be there for Robin and your family. RIP and fair winds, The members and committee of Geographe Bay Yacht Club

01.01.2022 A somewhat depleted dinghy fleet at the club today with the tasers opting not to race due to lack of crew and the cruisers off to Meelup in 12 or so knots. 5 boats started in the pelican fleet, three finished the race with Pineapple Monday coming from way behind after a capsize to win from Sublime and Game Over. Well done to the 2 first year skippers. Looked like lots of action in the mixed cats and Sharpies with the combination of the south westerly breeze and chop makin...g life interesting at times. Thank you to the Sharpies who took a number of interested juniors out this morning.
01.01.2022 Attention all sailors! Lindsay Preece of Ironbark Photos will be taking photos of this weekends race so make sure your on the water and looking your best!
