25.01.2022 YES we are still open for emergency care. In these ever changing times where policies change on a daily basis it can be hard to keep up with what you can and cant do. But rest assured you can always phone us for advice if you are concerned about your vision or your eyes. Our staff will work through a series of questions with you to determine if you should come in for a face to face visit, delay your appointment or whether an optometrist should call you back to discuss your... concerns. So what constitutes emergency care you may ask. Well that depends on the individual and all cases are ultimately overseen by an optometrist. For example a routine diabetic eye exam can probably wait a few months without too much risk. Patients over 70 are certainly being encouraged to stay at home if it is unlikely that not having an eye test will not put them at undue risk. Further to this point I have been in communication with the Queensland Devision of Optometry Australia this morning and they assure me that they are in discussions with the Transport Minister regarding drivers licence medicals. It is my firm belief that the Queensland Government should introduce a moratorium on over 75s needing to have their car drivers licence medicals for the next few months. Hopefully we see some announcement from the Minister this week on that issue. For younger, healthy people emergency eye care could be as simple as you need a new pair of specs because your new found hobby of binge reading is causing you headaches. Due to decreased demand on face to face care you might find that our 3 practices start running reduced days as of next week. 20.01.2022 How well can your child see? Can they see the board clearly? Can they effectively focus to read a book? One of the difficulties with childrens vision is they simply dont know themselves if they can see well or not. All children should have an eye test when they turn 4 or at least before they start prep, and then 2 yearly after that. Children dont have to the know the alphabet before they have an eye test. If the parents of a young child are concerned about their chil...ds vision or eye movements then they should bring them in earlier. Many visual and focussing problems are more subtle than simply can the child see whats on the board or see whats written in the book. Some of these more subtle problems can lead to fatigue or disinterest in school work. If your child is putting a lot of effort into just trying to focus on whats written in their books then theyll have less concentration left for actually doing the work and learning. So the holidays are over and the kids are back at school. If they havent had an eye test yet what better time to do that than now at the start of the year rather than waiting until they might be struggling with their school work later in the year. 15.01.2022 Were open for business. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic were still open and looking forward to serving our community. We have taken measures to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and patients. Weve decreased the frequency of available appointments to reduce the chances of queuing in our waiting rooms and separated our waiting room chairs, in an effort to improve social distancing.... Weve increased our cleaning of contact surfaces. Spectacle frames will be placed aside after theyre tried on to be cleaned before theyre returned to the racks. All patients will be telephoned before their appointment to ask them how they are feeling. We respectfully ask all patients who are experiencing any cold or flu like symptoms, even mild ones, to reschedule. Our policies are under constant review in the midst of this dynamic environment in which we all find ourselves. Rest assured the health and wellbeing of our staff and patients is our paramount concern. 08.01.2022 So it looks like our Millmerran Practice will be reopening shortly. We still have to dot some is and cross some ts. But if all goes to plan we will be sharing the BNW Accountants building at 33 Campbell Street. Hopefully well be taking appointments by early March, maybe sooner, but well let you know. 06.01.2022 Well Millmerran were coming back. Were kicking things off this Friday the 28th of February with our first clinic at the BNW Accountants building at 33 Campbell Street. Over the next few months well also be running some clinics on Wednesdays to make up for the ones weve missed in January and February. 01.01.2022 We have been visiting Millmerran for 11 & 1/2 years, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Millmerran community in the future. The Millmerran Medical Centre has closed until further notice and over the next couple of weeks well be looking into our options for how to best continue that service.
