24.01.2022 Have you ever heard me (or any practitioner) go on about trying to ensure you have enough fibre in your diet? Yes - well the below recipe is a good kickstart to your day & contains one third of your daily fibre. This recipe is to make a big batch for the pantry ... Recipe 1 cup chia seeds cup sunflower seeds cup pumpkin seeds cup sesame seeds cup flaxseeds cup cacao nibs cup shredded coconut cup buckwheat For breakfast Take cup of the above combo and place in a bowl with cup almond milk & coconut yoghurt (optional - but makes it quite creamy). I also add in collagen - for gut health (optional) Toppings: I swap between stewed apples & almond butter or mango, berries & yoghurt or whatever fruit is in season/tickles your fancy. For the apples: place apples in a pot on the stove, add water & cinnamon. Cook until tender - add water when needed along the way. #naturopathy #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicnutrition #melbournenaturopath #fitzroynaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #northcotenaturopath #thornburynaturopath #cliftonhillnaturopath #camberwellnaturopath #bendigonaturopath #prebiotics #probiotics #australiawidenaturopathconsultations #naturopathaustralia #naturopathonline #telehealthnaturopath #eczema #guthealth #guthealthnaturopath #dairyfree #veganrecipes #coeliacfriendly #skinnaturopath #glutenfree #fitzroynorth #melbourne #georgenat See more

23.01.2022 This year seems like it is the year of exhaustion (and many other things). But why is it that when you speak to most people they say they are ‘exhausted’ when we are being forced to do a lot less socialising (thanks COVID), working, travelling etc. Well, when the body is under a long-term stress (fight or flight mode) it has the ability to deplete the adrenals therefore reducing the secretion of certain hormones (cortisol, aldosterone, DHEA-S and adrenaline). A reduced... production of these hormones can interfere negatively with the body’s ability to cope with stress thus causing exhaustion and making normal daily tasks impossible. What are these ‘adrenals’ you speak of? Our adrenal glands are endocrine glands that sit above our kidneys and produce hormones such as adrenaline, aldosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol. Our adrenals are manufactured to adapt and respond to physical, emotional and psychological stress. So, as I said before when these are under the pump 24/7 they are eventually going to be worn out and stop doing its job. Thus - say hello to the feeling of ‘exhaustion.’ Simple ways to help you adrenals cope when stress is in the picture stay tuned x via @okbooksbooks #naturopathy #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicnutrition #melbournenaturopath #fitzroynaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #northcotenaturopath #thornburynaturopath #cliftonhillnaturopath #camberwellnaturopath #bendigonaturopath #prebiotics #probiotics #australiawidenaturopathconsultations #naturopathaustralia #naturopathonline #telehealthnaturopath #eczema #guthealth #guthealthnaturopath #dairyfree #veganrecipes #coeliacfriendly #skinnaturopath #glutenfree #fitzroynorth #melbourne #georgenat

18.01.2022 Tip #9 -supporting our adrenals & nervous system If you are feeling exhausted, having to take daily afternoon naps, depending on caffeine or just can’t seem to get up in the morning - check in with your doctor/GP !! As they can identify what testing needs to take place in order to get to the bottom of WHY you are feeling this way. During my practice, a non-negotiable is collaborating and working with doctors to ensure that all the necessary pathology takes place in or...der to rule out or get to the bottom of any underlying causes of your symptoms. 17.01.2022 How the food on our plate can help support our adrenals & nervous system First off Eat a wholefood diet - including a vast range of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts & seeds. As well as eating seasonally, as the produce will naturally have a higher nutrient content. Eating a seasonal and wholefood diet will ensure you are consuming all the required nutrients for your body to function at its full potential. If we eat the opposite (processed foods) it can put our body... in an inflammatory state causing a strain not only on our organs but also on our central nervous system and adrenals as it can pose a nasty threat to our hormones - especially cortisol levels. Iron essential for our energy production which is essential for the functioning of our central nervous system. Protein key player in our neurotransmitter production, stabilises blood sugar levels and can act as a long-lasting energy source. Protein is a MUST in every meal - as well as carbohydrates and fats. Magnesium blessed magnesium, what can’t it do? It has the function to improve energy, promote the production of neurotransmitters (hello stable mood), regulates cortisol levels and also help with insomnia, muscle aches & pains. When we are stressed, we excrete more magnesium through our urine, therefore in this scenario we are looking at quite low levels of magnesium, which can cause many symptoms that individuals with adrenal fatigue experience. #naturopathy #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicnutrition #melbournenaturopath #fitzroynaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #northcotenaturopath #thornburynaturopath #cliftonhillnaturopath #camberwellnaturopath #bendigonaturopath #prebiotics #probiotics #australiawidenaturopathconsultations #naturopathaustralia #naturopathonline #telehealthnaturopath #eczema #guthealth #guthealthnaturopath #dairyfree #veganrecipes #coeliacfriendly #skinnaturopath #adrenalfatigue #fitzroynorth #melbourne #georgenat See more

17.01.2022 PMS - okay so what is it? It is defined as a hormonal imbalance which causes emotional and physical symptoms a week before menstruation. It occurs after ovulation when our hormones levels change (progesterone and oestrogen). When our oestrogen decreases it can cause a change in our serotonin production which plays a role in regulating our mood. Whilst reduced progesterone levels can lead to an alteration in neurotransmitter production, specifically GABA, which is import...ant for relaxation. However, it is also common during this period for females to show signs of ‘oestrogen excess’ which can be identified in the body by symptoms such as bloating, breast tenderness, cramps and headaches. Sounds confusing, I know, but this is where a Naturopath can help investigate and identify what is contributing to your ‘PMS.’ Additionally, functional hormone testing can be a great investigative tool to highlight what your hormones are doing. #naturopathy #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicnutrition #melbournenaturopath #fitzroynaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #northcotenaturopath #thornburynaturopath #cliftonhillnaturopath #camberwellnaturopath #bendigonaturopath #prebiotics #probiotics #australiawidenaturopathconsultations #naturopathaustralia #naturopathonline #telehealthnaturopath #eczema #guthealth #guthealthnaturopath #premenstrual #premenstrualsyndrome #skinnaturopath #pms #fitzroynorth #melbourne #georgenat See more

16.01.2022 Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects roughly 90% of women in Australia. This is how it can be mistaken as ‘normal’ because your mother, sister, aunties and friends experience it. 06.01.2022 Tip #5 - supporting our nervous system/adrenals Screen time This will go hand in hand with the tip #4 but try to minimize screen time when it is time for bed. ... Putting your phone away the hour before bed and picking up a book will help your body’s natural circadian rhythm. When we allow ourselves screen time right up until bed it has the ability to increase cortisol levels in the body leaving us wired and tired but unable to get to sleep. This is detrimental because if someone is already struggling to stay awake during the day, a proper sleep during the night is essential. This is the same for morning time, try to spend your first hour without any stimulation from your phone/computer, this will allow your body time to wake up on its own and not demand a surge of cortisol upon waking to then cascade into this vicious cycle of cortisol cortisol cortisol to then lead to exhaustion. Also at night - turn your phone/computer on night mode to reduce the blue light which is what causes cortisol to sky rocket. #naturopathy #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicnutrition #melbournenaturopath #fitzroynaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #northcotenaturopath #thornburynaturopath #cliftonhillnaturopath #camberwellnaturopath #bendigonaturopath #prebiotics #probiotics #australiawidenaturopathconsultations #naturopathaustralia #naturopathonline #telehealthnaturopath #eczema #guthealth #guthealthnaturopath #veganrecipes #coeliacfriendly #skinnaturopath #adrenalfatigue #fitzroynorth #melbourne #georgenat See more

04.01.2022 seems there is a common theme on sundays

04.01.2022 hello warm days & the hot sun !! sunscreens contain alarmingly dangerous level of toxins, the same goes for most beauty care products (which scarily enough are banned in quite a lot of other countries, catch up Australia). in Australia you can find two different types of sunscreens, physical blockers and chemical absorbers. chemical absorber sunscreens absorb the sun’s UV rays before releasing them safely, while physical blockers deflect the sun’s UV rays so they don’t... penetrate the skin. physical blocker sunscreens use minerals such as zinc and are deemed safer and more natural than the chemical absorbers. chemicals to look out for in sunscreens - oxybenzone, octinoxate and homosalate. these toxins can act as hormone disruptors whilst also causing allergy like response and increasing toxin build up in the skin. luckily, sunscreen is only one element in your sun safety toolbox - make sure to also include a hat, sunglasses, light weight shirts & shade when necessary. *when in doubt and you’re unable to access a more natural sunscreen, please just go for your regular sunscreen. it is better than a burn & safer for your skin in the long run. . . to find mineral sunscreens - @nourishedlife / @thelaborganics / @skinjuice #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathy #naturopath #melbournenaturopath #collingwoodnaturopath #fitzroynorth #fitzroy #collingwood #themelbourneapothecarynaturopath #herbalmedicine #nutritionaltherapy #foodasmedicine #foodforthought #holistichealth #foodforthought #sunsafe #naturalsunscreen #naturalsunsafety #mineralsunscreen #zincsunscreen #slipslopslap #nontoxicsunscreen #naturalskincare #skinsafe #georgenat See more
