25.01.2022 From little things big things grow... This is particularly true when it comes to our small grants; they are just as important as our big ones. Small grants and seed funding provides just enough air to fan the fire and spark big change. Air=money Fire=individuals and organisations... Please get in contact with us if you have a new idea or need some help with an existing one.

24.01.2022 Challenging discussions, insightful observations, highlighting the importance of collaboration for community growth and resilience. Andrew Fairley from GHF, Michael Traill from Social Purpose and Business and susanWarren from COMET NZ at the Philanthropy Aust conference. Let's listen to the community and be guided and humbled by them.

22.01.2022 Read about No Fixed Address Soup Kitchen on August 8th in Rosebud - it's an event to raise awareness and support for people experiencing homelessness in the area. Read more about it on the Mornington Peninsula Foundation facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Mornington-Peninsula-Foundation-136650200216077/

22.01.2022 Thanks Peter, Gina and Anna (at 97!!!) for our visit and great conversations yesterday. Theodora House provides not just delicious meals but cooking classes too for people hungry to learn. Thanks Tricia Folvig from Mornington Peninsula Shire for bringing this together.

21.01.2022 Here is the video from the 2016 Mornington Peninsula Philanthropic Summit. Have a listen to Jackie Curry, Michael Devine, Ian Hicks, Sylvia Admans and Claire Thorn speak about the disadvantage people on the Mornington Peninsula are currently facing. We couldnt be happier with the outcomes from this day. Funders have jumped on board with many new projects being born. Amazing what can be achieved when a community joins forces with the same goals in mind. Special thanks to eve...ryone who was involved on the day. We cant wait to see where this takes us. An extra special thanks to Xanthe Rivett for making the video - you did such a great job, Thanks for this amazing support from the shire we are loving working together and looking foward to the next chapter. https://youtu.be/jQEF4FNpptk

21.01.2022 What an honour to be at the launch of the Bunjil sculpture at Willum Warrain in Hastings with Chris West and Peter Aldenhoven.

20.01.2022 Check this out!

20.01.2022 Love the insect hotels at Willum Warrain! What a special place on the Mornington Peninsula!

19.01.2022 Doors of opportunity! Great to see Tyabb Rail Primary School being supported by Westernport Secondary to create opportunities for young students. GHF supports collaborative work by great people for better outcomes for the whole community.

18.01.2022 We were pretty blown away when we stepped into Fusion Mornington last week. Fusion is the only Youth refuge on the Mornington Peninsula and sleeps up to 8 youth at any one time. Whats brilliant about this place is that it has the capacity to house youth for any amount of time they need to get on their feet, typically between 3 months and a year. Another brilliant aspect is the home like environment they provide. People from the community live on site and help with the teaching of life skills and resilience building. Here is Gemma and Stephanie, both live and work at Fusion and are pretty awesome women. We are looking foward to working with them more in the new year!

18.01.2022 This is what we like to see, tackling domestic violence head on. Another step in the right direction... https://www.theguardian.com//daniel-andrews-unveils-victor

18.01.2022 The NPAH funding equates to 1/3 of the federal homelessness budget. It is currently at risk of not being refunded in 2017, There are many front line services that run the risk of not being viable if they loose this money. It will be a disaster. #saveNPAH

17.01.2022 Up and running in 2017. GHF is on fire and looking forward to a great year supporting great people with great ideas for social change on the Mornington Peninsula. At a time of foreboding on the international stage lets remember that everyone counts.

17.01.2022 We visited the Second Bite Fresh Food Program in Rosebud last week. When we walked into Memorial Hall we were blown away by how much food there was - row upon row of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, treats and even clothes. Second Bite partners with Southern Peninsula Community Support and Information Centre to get quality fresh food to people who are providing a great service to the community by stopping this great food going to land fill while at the same time getting fr...esh food for themselves and their families that they otherwise wouldnt have access to. Another partner, Clothes4U provides quality clothing free of charge. We were chatting to Judy and Bev two of the Volunteers who have been apart of the program for over 3 years and discovered that not only do they volunteer for Second Bite but also at least 5 other local organisations each. Can anyone say community? We are very excited for Mark and his team as Yulgibar Foundation has just committed to $5,000 to be matched by George Hicks Foundation for the expansion of the program to Dromana and Rye. We just love Meeting the 'People of the Peninsula' and think it is incredible what they do.

15.01.2022 Great community workshop in Rosebud with Peter Kenyon and Bank of I.D.E.A.S firing up passionate conversations about community strengthening! Thanks Scanlon Foundation for bringing this together!

13.01.2022 Wow, Would you have a look at this before and after? Sharon is a woman from the Mornington Peninsula who participated in the The Brotherhood of Saint Laurence's Dental Program. People from the community who cant afford dental treatment take part in this wonderful program that provides access to quality dental care. The amazing volunteer team at the Brotherhood work with the community dental clinics, volunteer dentists and volunteer drivers to maximise existing resources for... the benefit of people most in need. George Hicks Foundation is one of a number of supporters of this great program. This is what its all about. knocking down barriers and enabling people to be the best they can be.

12.01.2022 Meet Brenda Gilchrist, passionate intake worker at Mentis Assist, a program that works with people on the Mornington Peninsula who are suffering from mental health issues and who need support. Importantly, they also provide support for carers. Brenda told us that they once offered many social programs during the week, including cooking and bush walking, but due to funding cuts the programs could no longer keep running. We learn so much from people like Brenda who work in government funded agencies and are so often at the mercy of what seems like incomprehensible funding changes. Perhaps this also speaks to the need to evaluate programs and couple this information with the grass roots knowledge and experience that so often doesnt get to the table of government decision making.

11.01.2022 Awesome to meet Ruby, Jasmine, Jade, Bridie and Zenya at Mornington Secondary School and to hear about their aspirations for when they leave school at the end of this year. Fashion with a social justice tinge we love it! Go girls! The world needs strong women like you. GHF supports women and girls.

11.01.2022 Shout Out to Michael Devine and the team at Westernport Secondary - turning young lives around.

09.01.2022 Christmas is a beautiful time but for so many families it can also be a stressful one. We are eternally grateful to kogo (Knit One Give One) for fundraising gifts and vouchers to go out to families at this time of year to take the load off.

09.01.2022 Flash back to our 50 year celebration in March this year, here is the wonderful Gitz who is the finance manager behind the scenes and beautiful Georgia who was our ticket seller on the day! 08.01.2022 The awesome Robyn Coughlin and her team down at Southern Peninsula Support and Information Center organised a speed dating lunch for services who work on the Mornington Peninsula. Genius right? we think so too. It was incredible like always to hear from the dedicated workers on the ground and to have the opportunity to connect with people we hadn't yet had the chance to. There certainly was no shortage of hopeful stories and you could feel every ounce of passion as they spoke. Brilliant day surrounded by brilliant people!

08.01.2022 Check out Mums Supporting families in Need's new video. This organisation changes the lives of families daily, giving much needed material aid so children can have the best start in life. Love your work here Jodie and team! #Morningtonpeninsula #community #love... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVFRfKg2OSs

06.01.2022 "A semicolon is used when an author could've ended their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life." This mark represents mental health struggles, addiction and the importance of suicide prevention. #Powerful #Change #Strength #dignity

06.01.2022 Michael Devine is the principal of Westernport Secondary College, He never fails to go above and beyond for the kids in his care. We are stoked they have partnered with Hands on Learning and with the help of a grant from GHF will be refurbishing an old building on their grounds. The students will do most of the work and then have a great space to work in. They will also use the building for their outreach work when they are working with kids who have disengaged from school. We cant wait to see the finished result! Yet another example of the amazing People on the Peninsula and the incredible work they do! #MPsummit #PeopleonthePeninsula #Community #Respect

05.01.2022 Great things happen at the Seawinds Community Hub - your one stop community hub in Rosebud West. There is a kinder/childcare centre, a sweet little community cafe, after school tutoring and yoga, amongst other great programs! They incorporate the Abecederian program working closely with Eastbourne Primary school, and they are seeing strong outcomes from the data so far. We are thrilled to work with Seawinds and to be supporting some families at the centre who otherwise wouldnt have the opportunity to go.

04.01.2022 Look at these wonderful women in purple shirts they are Mums Supporting Families in Need Inc. This is an organisation entirely run by volunteers. They pack and sort new and used baby items to be distributed via community agencys to families experiencing hardship. It was interesting to learn that when it started out it was just one donation out of Jodie's garage; this was hard to believe that when I went to the warehouse and saw it full to the brim of wonderful stuff people have donated. Now overflowing they are looking for a new location. It was an absolute pleasure meeting Jodie and her team and we wish them all the best for their move.

04.01.2022 A step in the right direction... https://probonoaustralia.com.au//vic-government-deliver-/

04.01.2022 This is what it's all about. Meet Colin, a man from the Mornington Peninsula who waited 10 long years to have his teeth fixed and finally did through the Brotherhood of St Laurence Dental Program. look at him now! What an incredible transformation. Thanks to all the donors who have contributed to this program and SHOUTOUT Mary Pearce, one of our quiet local heroes who voluntarily coordinates this program for BSL, assisting many many people like Colin to get back into education, work and life in the community through increased confidence and self esteem.

02.01.2022 Read more about our work on the Mornington Peninsula on the Mornington Peninsula Foundation facebook page - today featuring Rivers of Gold ... not always what they seem.

02.01.2022 Each year YMCA Southern Peninsula takes 15 girls away to Queenscliff on a girls retreat. This retreat is for youth who are experiencing hard times in their personal lives and need a break. A week filled with healthy food and cooking, yoga and personal development workshops with beautiful local MP mentors. It is so important for these young women to Gain skills and feel empowered and we think this retreat is the perfect space to do that in. Just another example of the wonderful things happening on the Mornington Peninsula and the amazing people like YMCA Southern Peninsula Director, Jeanette Horsley check out her big smile!

01.01.2022 After three years learning about issues on the Mornington Peninsula and getting to know great people in the community GHF has set up a new foundation. Helen is a key supporter through the uniting church and Colleen runs the shires book boxs. Together they're a formidable force and we loved meeting them last week. More wonderful people on the peninsula. #Peopleonthepeninsula #MPsummit #community #superheroes
