24.01.2022 SIGN THE PETITION for UniMelb to provide greater financial support for students: https://www.megaphone.org.au//greater-financial-support-fo Semester 2 is ...now well underway and yet the University refuses to spell out exactly how, or if, it will provide financial support to students. We are worried about students who are struggling to pay for rent, food and bills, and when Centrelink payments are reduced in October this will only get worse. We are worried about international students and their families who are struggling to pay course fees, and the obvious impacts this will have. Students are suffering and the Universitys response to this has been silence. This is not okay the University should have told us all what they would do to support students well before the semester commenced. We need your help. We need the University to provide immediate financial support to students. This could take the form of payments to meet the costs of food, bills and rent which students urgently need. This could also take the form of fee reductions for international students to help ease the immense financial stress felt by international students and their families. The University needs to act and it needs to act now. 22.01.2022 UMSU University of Melbourne Student Union Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation AC/ACM Opportunities & Events Forum UMSU Southbank UMSU International UMSU Creative Arts Department POSTPONEMENT OF GEORGE PATON GALLERY PROGRAM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE and POSTPONEMENT OF CREATIVE WORKSHOPS In light of the emerging COVID-19 situation the University is implementing social distancing designed to support a broader campaign to manage the spread of the virus. Based on thi...s advice, the George Paton Gallery and Creative Workshops have suspended their scheduled program of exhibitions and workshops from Monday 23 March until further notice. So that all exhibitions in the upcoming George Paton Gallery program can be seen once we are up and running again, we will recommence our program rather than cancel any exhibitions. New dates will be posted on our e-news, facebook and website once known. https://umsu.unimelb.edu.au/studentlife//exhibitionprogram/ Likewise, we will present as many of the cancelled Creative Workshops as possible once we are back in Union House and the Arts Lab. Finally, I want to thank you all for your support and patience as we work through these issues. It is also important that we continue to support each other during this transition period. I know that this a difficult and stressful time, and your efforts and preparedness to help out wherever possible are greatly appreciated. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook events for any updates, follow the advice on The University of Melbournes website, and if your studies are being directly impacted please remember that you can reach out to UMSU Advocacy for advice and assistance. We also understand that this is a difficult and stressful time for you and we encourage you to check in on each other, and to continue to monitor and comply with public health advice. Additional information is available on the Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services and Australian Government Department of Health websites. Please email Arts Programs staff at [email protected] should you have any questions about the gallery or workshop programs or proposals for second semester 2020 in the GPG. We look forward to seeing you all when our programs commence again.
