25.01.2022 FREE gastroscoping for horses this Friday (April 23) Horses with ulcers have decreased performance, poor appetite, behavioural changes and failure to thrive. Up to 95 percent of horses will get stomach ulcers in their lifetime. Southern Cross Equine Vet is now taking bookings for a Scoping Day this Friday which is proudly supported by Randlab. Randlab have generously supplied their time and specialised gastroscope at no charge. For this introductory offer Dr George is happy... to provide sedation also at no cost to ensure this procedure is as stress free as possible. The venue will be at the lovely, Hollyhall Farm, 150 Walkers Road Avoca. Numbers are limited so if you would like to secure a booking or would like further information on the Scoping Day, please call Southern Cross Equine on 0413834370 Dr George also promises to bake his legendary Lumberjack cake for morning tea. 22.01.2022 Jen is an incredible vet. Her dietary advice is always practical and insightful.

17.01.2022 If anyone is looking for a foster mare I’ve had a client lose a foal last night due to lethal white syndrome. She’s a beautiful quarter horse paint mare. If you’re in need of a foster mare I can get you in contact. Hopefully something good will come of this otherwise very sad situation.

15.01.2022 What an awesome day of jumping at Moss Vale Showgrounds! So lucky to have this beautiful old boy. He’s still got it. 2 rounds clear.

14.01.2022 Happy Birthday to my own, two G&T. May all the horses have extra carrots tonight.

11.01.2022 Keep an eye out for fireweed! Now are the perfect conditions for fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis) to flourish. It looks like a daisy - little yellow flowers. It invades pastures and can be DEADLY to horses. A single plant produces up to 30,000 seeds each season. The problem is they contain chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Livestock that eat fireweed get liver damage. The damage gets worse the more an animal eats. If you think you have affected animals contact you...r vet immediately. Symptoms in horses: * general dullness * aimless wandering * uncoordinated gait * pressing up against fences, gates or trees * reduced awareness, and possible blindness * Unpigmented skin can become sensitive to sunlight, redden and peel away.

07.01.2022 Southern Cross Equine Vet wishes you and your lovely horses a very Merry Christmas. On call throughout Christmas should you need veterinary care. 0413834370. Hope the reindeer don’t get all the carrots tonight
