23.01.2022 GEORGE STREET ART - YOUR THOUGHTS? During the week I visited the Town of East Freo for their ‘Open House’ event. Among other things, I chatted about the recent additions to the George Street art scene in particular the piece that is now found on the side of the kindergarten. Whilst in no way am I questioning the quality of the artwork nor the need for a refresh I did however wonder if the location, colour palette and subject matter of the new piece were appropriate to our... family-friendly and vibrant community regardless of the street’s history (read more here https://www.eastfremantle.wa.gov.au/hubble-street-mural-201 ). I also questioned if any Plympton residents or businesses had been asked their thoughts prior to final selection. I believe the new mural does not add value to the lives of our residents or motivate visitation to the George Street Precinct. Attached to this post are images of what is there now, what it replaced and some lovely locals engaging with previous artwork. I also learnt that the mural in Glasson Park is earmarked to be ‘improved’ so I have also included a picture of that. My questions are many, but primarily do you think the new artwork adds to our community, would you like to be consulted in the future selection of community art including the mural in the park? Please feel free to let me know either way please share and I will share the feedback with the Town. People of Plympton Ward, East Fremantle Samantha Mooney Town of East Fremantle

21.01.2022 Join DesignFreo on location with award-winning architect Nic Brunsdon at his just-completed East Fremantle House (Plympton). The architect, client and builder with DesignFreo are offering a one-time only event to walk through and discuss the project. What was the brief? ... What inspired the design? What makes it great? If you’re considering engaging an architect or simply love architecture, this is a unique chance to have an intimate conversation with all parties involved and discover what working with an architectural team to realise your dream home is really like. The East Fremantle House is an alteration and addition to a heritage cottage on a narrow site. Places are strictly limited. 16.01.2022 What happens at the Old Fremantle Bridge is important to East Fremantle, it’s a gateway to our town. If you want to get involved so information below may be of interest.
15.01.2022 The art piece in Glasson Park is now complete. What do you think? Does it make you feel happy? Feel pride? Do the kids who use the park love it? Does it make you want to stop and take it all in? Does it meet the goals of ToEF’s Public Art Policy? Please see link below for the full Policy if you’re interested. No matter what your thoughts are it is important to provide feedback to the Town, as it’s the only way we are going truly create a place that we can feel engaged in.... https://www.eastfremantle.wa.gov.au//4_2_6_PublicArt_Polic

10.01.2022 What do you think is iconic about East Freo? A concept design by local artist Jessee Lee Johns (pictured) has been commissioned for installation on the Glasson Park Basketball Wall. Before Jessee finalises the design ToEF would like the community to share what local buildings and features they would like to see showcased in the new Glasson Park installation.... Note: due to the scale and style of the installation there may not be the opportunity for ALL suggestions to be included. The concept design will be reworked with consideration of community feedback and submitted for approval by the Public Art Panel prior to installation. Your suggestions, in words or pictures, should be submitted to [email protected] marked Glasson Park Mural before close of business on 23 October 2020. Share your thoughts with the town and below.
10.01.2022 Well isn’t this grand restoration works are commencing on our fabulous old girl at the end of the street The Royal George Hotel. They are only working on an external restoration at the moment, which will focus on the majority of the external restoration such as the distinctive cupola, external George and Duke Street facades, roof, all chimneys, exterior windows, doors and verandah. The remaining interior restoration works as well as proposed uses for the Hotel will come later and will require a new development application expected to be lodged later in the year.

07.01.2022 PUBLIC ART FOR COMMENT | closing this Friday Remember that the closing date for input to the proposed public art planned for Glasson Park closes on Friday. The opportunity for comment should not be a box ticking exercise and so even though they have not asked you for your thoughts on the proposed piece why not share them anyway. ... Do you love it? Do not have an opinion? If not why not? Public art should make you feel something. Some things to consider: Is it nourishing? Is it joyful? Do you love it? Does it offer a benefit to the community - economically, culturally? Will the expenditure add value to the park, or would you prefer improved gardens or something else altogether? Does it provoke an emotional response for you? Is it something positive to look at every day? Is it beautiful? Do you think it could be better? Will the kids love it? It’s our community and it’s our park. Your thoughts should be submitted to [email protected] marked Glasson Park Mural before close of business on 23 October 2020. 07.01.2022 Sometimes on George, it’s worthwhile looking up. The terraces were designed and built by Norman Hitchcock and were quite revolutionary at the time due to the terraces having a light well at the centre allowing for a window in the middle rooms - amazing! If you look closely in the ‘wiggles’ beneath the decorative woman’s head, you can see the initials of tradespeople who worked on the build on this one you can see the initials BD. ... Happy hunting looking for others.

03.01.2022 Nothing says spring quite as vibrantly as the everlastings hanging in the window of @floralarmy
03.01.2022 I’ve always loved this place. Imposing on the corner, overlooking the park. A babe of the late 60’s with outstanding bone structure and what I have always thought to have been European heritage. I imagine large interconnected living, with sliding glass doors dividing and enough bedrooms for a family - but that’s just my mind wandering around the rooms I’ve never seen. Oh and who can wander past that cactus without a second glance. ... Plympton - a fabulous mix of architecture of varying styles.
03.01.2022 Hey there Petunia! We all know that cars on George can be a little challenging, but if we follow Petunia’s friendly example, we can all help to ease the load. Some suggestions to consider: - Be friendly to fellow drivers & pedestrians - Take your time, what’s the hurry? 30-40kms is perfect for cruising George - Avoid rolling through stop signs & cutting corners... - Keep left & give way (with a wave and a smile is always nice) - If you work on the street, please don’t park on the street, check out the Town's carpark - If you live in the area, try not to leave unused cars parked on the street for long periods - If you don’t have to drive down George, go the other way you might discover something new - If you have a large car or SVU maybe park on a side street and stroll up - If you have delivery trucks coming to your business perhaps ask them to deliver in non-peak times - Keep an eye out for kids on scooters, pets and neighbours - If you can leave the car at home and walk or cycle that would be great and remember to mention this to your clients and customers. George is a mixed-use area so businesses & households are nestled side by side - just the way we like it. Let’s all help each other to keep George friendly and safe.
02.01.2022 Ok. So most will say it’s a crazy idea, but why not? George Street pedestrian mall. That would stop the traffic issues
