09.01.2022 Its not your average school excursion. For a group of students from Port Dalrymple School in Tasmania, yesterdays Growth Industry Preparation Program (GrIPP) ...was the chance to see advanced manufacturing up close; to talk to employees about their jobs; and to get a real feel for what their future working life could be like. It took place at Bell Bay Aluminium where around 450 people work in a huge range of jobs. The sites employees were involved in giving the students a tour of the plant, and acting as mentors during later work readiness workshops. Feedback from the students Teacher was that the day allowed connection and conversations with people in industry and provided a sense of realism about the world of work. Students said they learnt valuable information about the industry and job opportunities that might be available to them in the future. Lou Clark, Principal Advisor Communities and Communication at Bell Bay Aluminium, reported the event was a success. I think the students were definitely challenged and inspired by real life examples from our employees. If we have helped shape event one young mind out of 14 on a career path that is a fantastic achievement. Beacon Foundation is running five GrIPPs this week, right around the state. Others feature tourism and hospitality and aged and community services. Photo credit: Rob Burnett Images and Bell Bay Aluminium
