Exercise is important for general health but also to promote healthy hearts and bones. It’s especially important at this life stage when there is increased incidence and risk of heart and bone diseases and breast cancer. ... 23.01.2022 TOP 5 CAUSES OF PMS: PMS is a red flag that your reproductive hormones are out of balance. Certain factors can cause the onset and worsen the severity of PMS by contributing to this imbalance. ... Here are the most common culprits I see in clinical practice: 1. Stress - particularly severe or long term stress, because it messes with your reproductive and stress hormone levels and activity in the body. 2. Gut and liver health - because they are closely involved in maintaining reproductive hormone balance via excretion of hormone metabolites 3. Inflammation - by altering how your body's hormones communicate and function. 4. Body composition - excess body fat increases the risk of PMS symptoms due to its impact on hormone levels in the body. 5. Diet - eating too many inflammatory-type foods (wheat, sugar, dairy) and the presence of nutritional deficiencies (magnesium, B6, essential fatty acids) can make symptoms more severe. Questions? 18.01.2022 MENOPAUSE AND ADRENAL HEALTH Healthy adrenal function is particularly important during menopause. Why? Because while the body's synthesis of oestrodiol naturally declines during this stage, the adrenal glands can still make small amounts. ... But because they are also responsible for making hormones to respond to stress, an excessive and chronic amount of stress in your life means the adrenal glands prioritise dealing with the physiological effects of that stress on the body before it deals with making oestrogen. The result? More severe menopausal symptoms like hot flushes (among others issues). The solution? Looking at the root causes of stress in your life (physical and emotional) and supporting your body with appropriate and effective diet, lifestyle, nutritional and herbal strategies to reduce the impact of this stress on your body. Questions? Email me on [email protected]

15.01.2022 This week’s question for Q & A Friday has a two part answer. Is intermittent fasting helpful during perimenopause and menopause? It is not suitable for everyone, particularly if you are:... underweight an athlete (or regularly exercise to a high intensity) have a history of eating disorders or are nutritionally deficient (as per tips on Monday) However, intermittent fasting can be helpful during perimenopause and menopause if you have insulin resistance or need to lose weight. Here’s a little extra information to consider. For most people, it is not sustainable as a long-term approach to eating. So far, the evidence does not show that it is any more effective for helping people lose or sustain weight loss compared with other dietary approaches (e.g. low carbohydrate, high protein). It can result in loss of lean muscle mass and elevated stress hormones which can exacerbate symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. If it is appropriate for you, it is vital that during the window you are eating, your meals are nutritionally dense. It’s best to be under guidance to start with to make sure it is suitable for your individual body, that you are still eating a nutritionally balanced diet and that your overall energy intake is appropriate for your activity levels. If I can help you navigate an eating plan specifically for you click the email me button at the top of my page to book an appointment. https://www.facebook.com/georgiamarrionnaturopathnutritionist/

06.01.2022 WOMEN'S HEALTH FACT: CORTISOL AND BELLY FAT Too much cortisol in the body is one of the hormonal causes of belly fat. The body needs the right amount of cortisol for immunity, blood sugar control, responding to stress, among other things.... 04.01.2022 HORMONE HEALTH FACT...ESTROGEN AND FAT DISTRIBUTION Estrogen is involved in how fat is distributed in the body.
