22.01.2022 "What is biologically normal infant sleep? In our culture, we learn from an early age that babies should be happy sleeping alone. Visit any pre-school and you will see the children playing with the dolls, then lying them down in plastic play cots when it’s time for sleep. In most movies and TV shows, babies sleep happily in cots, often in their own bedrooms, with only a lullaby needed for baby to drift off to sleep. So is it any wonder that new parents expect the same of thei...r newborn babies? This issue is unrealistic expectations when it comes to biologically normal infant sleep: The normal infant needs frequent feeding overnight The normal infant prefers to sleep close to an adult caregiver, with preference usually given to the birth mother, whose smell and taste is familiar The normal infant needs help to fall asleep, through feeding, motion, warmth and comfort The normal infant cries when they are put down and left alone, to alert an adult caregiver to pick them up again and keep them safe The normal infant may have bouts of frequent waking when they are going through a sleep progression due to a phase of rapid physical, mental or emotional development So why are these behaviours normal? And how do we know that they are normal..." Want to know more about NORMAL INFANT SLEEP? 20.01.2022 How can breastfeeding mothers get more sleep? Check out this article I wrote for Little Sparklers for some helpful tips! "It is normal for a breastfed baby to wake regularly through the day, as well as through the night. It is also normal for your breastfed baby to only settle back to sleep with a feed. This could be as frequently as every 45 minutes! Breastfeeding is a rewarding but demanding job; you might be wondering how sleep is possible when your baby needs to be fe...d so often. Below is a quick guide to getting more sleep for new mothers and their breastfed babies, followed by a more in-depth exploration of breastfeeding and sleep..." https://www.littlesparklers.org/breastfeeding-and-sleep
15.01.2022 My Breech Birth ~ 6 Years Ago It’s hard to believe I have a 6 year old My daughter’s birth didn’t exactly go to plan. She was supposed to be a peaceful home water birth. Instead, she was a wild, intense, hospital vaginal breech birth ... Statistically, everything was against me. First time mum pushing out a baby bum first? It seemed very unlikely, but I was pretty damn determined and I had the best team behind me. Would I do it again? Shit. Don’t ask me that I honestly have no idea. But I did it. Actually, I smashed it So happy birthday to my sweet girl. You showed me how fucking strong I am and that has motivated me in so many other ways too. It wasn’t the birth I was expecting but it was definitely the birth I needed Want to read the full, gritty story? Click below! Warning: This is not a fluffy story. There’s no breathing the baby out, I was no calm birther If you want to read about pain-free birth with meditation music and fairy lights you might like to skip this one

12.01.2022 Little Sparklers website is NOW LIVE! This has been a long road and I'm so proud that we got there in the end. Huge shout-out to Carly Grubb -- you are amazing girl. Parents everywhere are so lucky that you are there to advocate for them and their babies. For some wonderful information on all things babies+sleep, check it out!
09.01.2022 Guys, I rarely do promotion posts but I HAVE TO SHARE THIS. For the mums out there who want to get fit but feel like they CAN'T get out there to exercise with their baby - this is for you! HATE EXERCISE?? Don't stop reading because that was literally me 3 months ago. And now I love it. I'm not lying. I actually wish I'd gotten into it years ago!... So check this out: 28 Days of workouts online in January that you can do AT HOME. Stick baby in the bouncer. Put her on your mat. Shit. Put the toddler in front of the TV or the tablet if you have to and spend an hour working on yourself! When February rolls around and you feel fitter and more confident, the early days of your legs feeling like a baby giraffe will be worth it!! Bod Squad by Rikki-Lee is the go-to for women's fitness up here in the beautiful Northern Rivers. They literally have hundreds of us doing their challenges and casual classes. It's amazing! Started by the gorgeous and infectiously enthusiastic Rikki Petrie (love you Rik!!) these are workouts designed by women, for women. And now everyone around Australia gets to join in this amazing tribe. I have spent the past 12 weeks getting into shape with Rikki and her gorgeous trainers and I'm blown away by the progress I've made. Despite having had two babies, I'm easily in the BEST shape of my life and I feel SO FREAKING GOOD. Growing, birthing and parenting has shown me that my body is tough and my mind is tougher. So I challenge my lovely followers to jump onto this 28 Day challenge and DO IT FOR YOURSELF. Because mothers put EVERYONE else before themselves. Seriously, stop doing that. 2020 was a shit of a year. Make 2021 better. Start here! And thank me later! #yeahthegirls
08.01.2022 Great night out with my #mothersspaceballinashire sidekick Pia Ink to see the @birthtimeworld documentary. . Wow. What an important film this is. Highly encourage every #mother #father #midwife and #birthworker to see it, because women’s voices around how they are treated when they give birth need to be heard. . Thank you to the creators @jerushasutton @kaftanmama and @midwifejohunter for giving women and families a voice and for putting your hearts and souls into this amaz...ing piece of work . And if you have given birth in the last 5 years, head to the Birth Time website to share your story in The Birth Experience Study. You will also find lots of ways to help support the film and spread the message on their website too https://www.birthtime.world/ See more

01.01.2022 We can’t all be perfect parents all the time. It’s okay to be tired of your baby’s bullshit sometimes . When you’re feeling drained it’s important to step back and take some time to yourself, even if it’s just for a few minutes outside to breathe. . Remember, the intense weeks, months and years pass. Older toddlers and children still have intense needs, but you will be able to find more opportunities to get back to the things you used to enjoy.... . Also. Laugh. Cos sometimes if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry Credit: Joshua Seaman Photography
