22.01.2022 Lets face it - No one wants to be, or should be on medications or supplements their whole life. Granted, there are some conditions that require this. However, using food as medicine and proper individualised nutrition from whole foods is what creates a health for the long haul. Luckily, nutrition has a HUGE impact on our hormone health, so little changes in our diet can result in big changes for our hormones and overall health.

20.01.2022 Ahimsa - non-violence. We are our own harshest critics. Self judgement is still a practice of violence, and can cause us a great deal of inner conflict and stress, sometimes without us even being aware of it. Yoga, meditation, and other mind-body practices train your body and mind to become more aware of our inner dialogue and thoughts. We can catch the negative stories or thought patterns, and in doing so, can re-frame them. Over time, we are able to cultivate ahimsa, to ourselves and each other. When you feel a little anxious, or catch yourself in self judgement, try this yin yoga pose. Support yourself with cushions or bolsters, under the knees and/or on top of the knees so that you feel fully supported as you fold forward. Stay for 3-5 minutes, concentrating on feeling the back of your heart breathe.

20.01.2022 Its no secret that I love oats. If anyone has either a) had breakfast with me, or b) purchased my eBook, you will see that I am quite a fan. Studies on oats have shown improvements on blood sugar levels, insulin sensitivity and plasma cholesterol. Compared to other carbohydrate dense foods such as bread or rice, oats cause a lower and steadier rise in blood sugar levels, giving them a more favourable number on the GI index. Oats are great for the gut, as long as you tolerat...e them, because they act as a prebiotic. They can be used to treat ulcerative colitis, abdominal pain and reflux. Due to their anti-fungal properties, raw oats and oat extract may be also be effective in treating fungal diseases such as Candida albicans. Oats can also be used to treat any conditions that are the result of high stress, such as anxiety, impotence and insomnia, most likely due to their relaxing and nutritive actions. Externally, oats can be used to treat dermatitis as a moisturizing and cleansing agent, due to their demulcent and anti-inflammatory properties. You may have heard about oat baths for eczema - this can be highly effective. To really make your oats last you through the morning, team them with plenty of healthy fats and proteins. My current fave breakfast is cooking oats with chia seeds to make porridge, then adding some organic berries and banana. Heat through gently, and top with hemp seeds, pecans, dots of ghee and a teeny drizzle of raw Margaret River honey. Let me know if you have any other oaty suggestions! Pinterest

20.01.2022 My Top 5 Liver Lovin Foods (2/5) Garlic: Not only delicious and very good for you in terms of its antioxidant status, but garlic also helps keep our hormones balanced by reducing the risk of unhealthy bacterial overgrowth in the gut and vagina. Overgrowth of pathogens (read xeno-estrogens) can be a big cause of excess estrogen and the more there are, the more they stick around to get re-absorbed into the body. How much? 2-3 cloves per day, either fresh or cooked.

19.01.2022 Thank you for the kind words Lina

17.01.2022 Are you struggling with any of these symptoms? You are not alone. Naturopathic care for PCOS takes a whole view of the woman and treats individual needs including regulating the menstrual cycle, reducing male hormones, infertility, depression, anxiety and body weight issues.... Let me help you towards a batter tomorrow..

16.01.2022 Are you struggling to get a good night sleep? Some of the hormones involved in getting a good night sleep include: 1. Cortisol: our stress hormones are all about survival... 2. Progesterone: our balancing, soothing, relaxing hormone 3. Oestrogen: closely connected to the neurological hormones, including serotonin and dopamine. Hormonal changes can wreak havoc on your sleep. When hormone levels spike or drop - such as during the menstrual cycle, during and after pregnancy, and especially around menopause + many more - women may be more vulnerable to sleep problems.

16.01.2022 I think most of us know, to some degree that womens hormones have an effect on other body systems. But its always good to read actual scientific articles explaining how and why! Here is a little excerpt: "Sex hormones significantly impact womens lives. Throughout the different stages of life, from menarche to menopause and all stages in between, women experience dramatic fluctuations in the levels of progesterone and estradiol, among other hormones. These fluctuations affe...ct the body as a whole, including the central nervous system (CNS). In the CNS, sex hormones act via steroid receptors. They also have an effect on different neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, dopamine, and glutamate. Additionally, studies show that sex hormones and their metabolites influence brain areas that regulate mood, behavior, and cognitive abilities". Its all a bit wordy, but you get the gist! Feel free to ask away any questions you have on this topic.

15.01.2022 An impressive list, by anyones standards.

15.01.2022 Who else loves lemons? They are well known for their vitamin C, but they are also a good source of B6, potassium, folic acid, flavonoids (antioxidants), and one very important little phytochemical called limonene. Limonene has been used in clinical trials to dissolve gallstones and is showing promise in trials investigating anti-cancer activity. ... Lemons are also very useful in helping the body absorb iron, especially from non animal sources such as green leafy veggies. They are in season, so hopefully you can find a tree around and keep an abundance handy in your fruit bowl for squeezing over all your salads and roasted veggies!

10.01.2022 What medical conditions/symptoms is lavender good for? Insomnia Symptoms of menopause Topically for burns, bug bites, and other swelling injuries... Stress headaches Arthritis Anxiety and depression Interestingly though, while a small amount of lavender tends to be calming and soothing, too much can have the opposite effect and be quite stimulating. So if your using lavender drops on your pillow - less is more!

10.01.2022 Despite the fact that she wants to fall pregnant yesterday, giving herself and her body just a few more months of extra special focused care now, can make a huge difference later on..

10.01.2022 SUCH an interesting listen. Its only about 15 minutes long, so look it up on spotify when your next driving. Here is a little excerpt: "...however its possible that we are approaching the limits of what scientific medicine can do to combat heart disease...We will need to shift to a new paradigm to continue to make the kind of progress to which we have become accustomed. In this paradigm, psychosocial factors will need to be front and center in how we think about heart proble...ms. This is going to be an uphill battle, and it remains a domain that is largely unexplored. The American Heart Association still does not list emotional stress as a key modifiable risk factor for heart disease, perhaps in part because blood cholesterol is so much easier to lower than emotional and social disruption. There is a better way, perhaps, if we recognise that when we say a broken heart, we are indeed sometimes talking about a real broken heart. We must, must pay more attention to the power and importance of the emotions in taking care of our hearts. Emotional stress, I have learned, if often a matter of life and death." https://www.ted.com//sandeep_jauhar_how_your_emotions_chan See more

09.01.2022 Pomegranate has been shown to modulate inflammation, hypoxia and oxidative stress in urological diseases particularly in the management of prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic. Men, time to get on the pomegranate band wagon!

09.01.2022 A herb for everyone! Tulsi is an Ayurvedic herb, known as the ‘Queen of Herbs’, ‘The Incomparable One’ and 'The Matchless One’ and is believed to be an elixir of life that promotes longevity. Despite its wide range of actions, the majority of studies have been related to investigating it's effect on blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, blood pressure, the immune response and neuro-cognitive changes.... Studies of varying quality have indicated that tulsi increases glutathione levels and enhances the activity of other antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase and catalase; helps to reduce DNA damage and induces apoptosis of cancerous cells; and increases activity of liver detoxification enzymes for effective toxin metabolism and elimination.

09.01.2022 Acai bowls really became trendy over the last few years didnt they? I am not against them per say. I am against the ones that are full of additional sugars, and even the best of them need to eaten with plenty of proteins and fats to help tone down the fairly big dose of carbohydrates. A good acai bowl that hasnt been overly processed (or made with things like apple juice) contains nutrients like Vitamin C and Vitamin A, and can be great post exercise when you are cravings ...something to re-hydrate you. But make sure you top them with healthy fats and proteins such as plenty of nuts and seeds, nut butter and oats. NOT too much extra fruit, or honey, or sweetened granola. Pinterest

04.01.2022 Tip for anyone trying to conceive: Zinc & male fertility go hand in hand. More then 1 in 3 Australian males are not meeting their daily zinc requirements, yet zinc plays a vital role in reproductive health. In fact, I would go as far as saying that for any male coming to see me, I think of zinc first. Zinc plays an important role in the reduction of oxidative stress in sperm maturation & in testosterone production. It also supports prostate and sexual health, including boost...ing libido. There a vast array for clinical trials to support the use of zinc in fertility optimisation, for both men and women. While supplementation is usually necessary to achieve a therapeutic dose, an easy and delicious way to get some zinc in through your food, is via pumpkin seeds. (Or oysters, but thats a little trickier!).

04.01.2022 PARLSEY Parsley is one of my favourite foods for liver health. It shouldnt just be limited to a little garnish, or a sprinkle - use it liberally as a leafy green veg. Most of the time I use flat leaf parsley, as it has a slightly less parsley taste than the curly variety, but you can use either. It is extremely rich in chlorophyll, carotenes, flavonoids (antioxidants) and nutrients such as vitamin C, folic acid, iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc.... It helps with water retention and eases bloating due to its diuretic actions, without depleting the body of potassium, so it is excellent for women who find they hold onto fluids before or during their cycle. It also acts as a gentle anti-inflammatory and can help reduce pain; great news for those of us with dysmenorrhea.

03.01.2022 Friends in the South West area - if your free Sept 19th, come along! I am honoured to be part of this event, and very much looking forward to hearing from the other presenters. This is a subject close to my heart, as I am very familiar with the ol anxiety but this is a wonderful initiative that helps bring people together to get through what can feel like a very lonely time.

02.01.2022 When was the last time you had blueberries? They are incredibly healthy and nutritious. They are an excellent source of flavonoids, especially anthocyanidins, the chemicals responsible for their beautiful colour. They are a great source of Vitamin C, and both soluble and insoluble fiber, meaning they are very good for your gut health and can help with both diarrhoea and constipation. Because of their capacity to reduce oxidative stress so dramatically, research is looking i...nto how they may be used in many areas of health, such as the prevention (and potentially even treatment) of Alzheimers disease, preventing and treating macular degeneration, varicose veins, hemorrhoids and peptic ulcers. Try to get them spray free though, as berries are one of the most sprayed crops around.

02.01.2022 Did you know that sage is one of the most key herbs to menopause. Yep, its not only fabulous on roast potatoes but its a key ingredient in reducing night sweats

01.01.2022 Lets talk PCOS. Also known as the most common denominator linked to female infertility. Polycystic ovarian syndrome, PCOS is caused by an imbalance in the female sex hormones. You may be experiencing abnormal menstruation, absence of menstruation, heavy menstruation, irregular menstruation, short and light menstruation, or spotting. Other signs and symptoms of PCOS include hirsutism, acne, changes in mood, particularly when stress is involved, weight fluctuations and blood... sugar imbalances. By re-balancing the sex hormones, many women with PCOS can become pregnant and have a healthy baby. Please let me know below or in messenger if you have any questions on this topic.
