20.01.2022 DENTAL AWARENESS August is dental awareness month Australian wide! Did you know that 80% of dogs over three years of age have some form of dental disease? Did you also know that most species of animals can get dental disease? Just like humans, animals also require dental treatment and maintenance.... Signs of dental disease can include bad breath, yellow/brown crusted teeth, tartar, bleeding gums, change in eating habits, and drooling. Some may not display any signs either! At GEOvet, we offer FREE dental checks on dogs and cats with our vets, where the vet will examine your pets mouth and determine if they have dental disease, and supply you with a quote/estimate to have a dental done on your pets teeth if required. (Please note these consults are for dental checks only and any further services will incur a consultation fee) Bookings are essential! Keeps your pets smiling all year round!

14.01.2022 Foaling 1-2-3 The first few hours of a foals life are of critical importance. Luckily the owner of this pair knows her foaling 1-2-3 rules and Dr. Katie was happy to come out and help. 1. The foal should be able to get up and walk after ONE hour 2. The foal should be successfully nursing after TWO hours... 3. The mare should have passed her afterbirth after THREE hours. Delays in these critical hours means you should seek veterinary assistance, they are usually easily corrected if detected early. P.S. How cute is this little guy? #foal #equine #vet #teamranga #geovet

02.01.2022 Cooler weather is upon us and that means that unwanted house guests may try and make their way inside our homes. sheds, garages and barns. We're talking about rats and mice, not your local vagabonds/weird relatives. If you are putting rat baits around your property please ensure your dog or cat cannot access them too! There are different types of chemicals that can make up rat bait, take note of which product you are using as the severity of the effects if ingested... can differ. If you suspect that you pet may have ingested rat bait please take note of the following Symptoms: Unlikely to show any symptoms for 2-4 days The chemicals in rat bait stops blood from clotting, causing internal bleeding. After a few days: lethargy, lameness, pale gums, coughing, swelling, inappetence, blue or green pellets in faeces or vomit What should you do? Seek veterinary help immediately. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. Please call us on 08 9754 4422 if you have concerns or questions. What you shouldnt do! DO NOT administer medications without consulting a vet DO NOT WAIT TO SEE IF THEY ARE OKAY If ingestion has occured in the last 1-2 hours the veterinarian will assess if it is appropriate to make your vomit up any rat bait that may still be in their system and your pet will require a blood test to check that the clotting factors have not been severely diminished. If it's been longer you pet will need a blood test and possible plasma transfusions to stop internal bleeding. Dogs who have been affected by rat bait will also need to take Vitamin K tablets for 2-4 weeks to ensure their clotting factors are replenished.
