23.01.2022 It's almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream Dream big, little athletes! And best of luck to you all for the final day of our 2020/21 Centre Championships. Competition will kick off at 2.30pm sharp so please arrive a little earlier for warm ups. Remember there is a water fountain inside to refill water bottles and please wear hats between events. 22.01.2022 Today is the day Best of luck to our 20 athletes who will be representing Geraldton Athletics Centre over the next 3 days at the annual Athletics West Country Championships. This years’ event is being hosted by Bunbury Little Athletics with 426 athletes registered to compete. We know you will continue to ‘Be Your Best’ and show your amazing sportsmanship ... Last years’ event was held in Margaret River with over 330 participants. Our 22 athletes brought home 46 medals between them, majority qualifying for the State Track & Field Championships that was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID 19. Thank you to our families for making the trek down to Bunbury to give your children this wonderful experience. Every year, the kids thoroughly enjoy the jam packed weekend, full of #FunFamilyFitness! 21.01.2022 The 2021 Country Championships is only two months away This event is a great opportunity for our athletes to compete against other country kids and meet some fantastic people from across WA Held in Bunbury from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th of January, Athletes choose to attend this event, they do not need to qualify.... Simply nominate for the event through your Results HQ portal - Entries open on the 1st of December. If you plan on attending, we recommend planning your ...accommodation as soon as possible. One of the bonuses of having parents on the committee means they are always at the grounds well before and after every comp, lending a hand, setting up equipment, sweeping, cleaning, welcoming new members to the club.... 20.01.2022 A true champion can never be measured by scores, tallies or marks, but the size of the fight in their heart And what champions we have!!!! 3 days competing at the 2021 Athletics West Country Championships, we have seen some amazing achievements from our team of 20 Athletes, taking home 16 Gold, 21 Silver, 12 Bronze and a bucket full of personal best achievements. We were thrilled to be joined by 3 GAC families brand new to the Country Champs circuit. The kids tackled the he...at and wind head-on, running, jumping and throwing with everything they had in the tank. You have made us so proud, Team Gero! Thank you to the 400+ athletes who travelled from all over the state to compete. You all brought some tough competition, great sportsmanship and a heap of fun! There were a lot of new, excited faces, as well as eager returning athletes, ready and raring for the start of our 2020/21 Season.... Our first TRAINING session (non-compulsory) will take place on Wednesday 14 October, 4-5pm. Our first COMPETITION day is scheduled for Saturday 17 October, 2.30pm. If you haven't done so already, please REGISTER at www.resultshq.com.au. Please remember to order UNIFORMS through Total Uniforms (NWCH Hwy) as soon as possible. Uniform is compulsory and consists of the yellow shirt and red shorts on display. We can't wait to see you all back at the GAC very soon!

19.01.2022 Returning members are reminded to keep their numbered bib and sponsor tags. Only new members are allocated new numbered bibs. Updated age tags however, are provided each season upon registration. In the case of a lost bib, members can be issued with a hand written bib at a small cost. 18.01.2022 Day 1 of Country Champs is always a good learning experience. Athletes finding their feet on the track, dealing with their nerves and growing their confidence. It was a great day all round, with some added fun with relay races. Well done to our Junior girls with U9’s coming second, U10’s photo finish, and our senior U14-U17 girls taking first place. Day 2... here we come! Best of luck guys!!!

15.01.2022 Introducing our 2021 Club Captain.... Sophie Batten Currently in Under 17’s, Sophie’s journey with Geraldton Athletics Centre began in Under 11’s. During this time, Sophie has shown great dedication to our club and a love for the sport of athletics in general. Sophie’s favourite events are hurdles, triple jump and sprints and she enjoys helping out at training and watching the younger athletes enjoy their events! It is her desire to one day coach athletics herself ... As well as attending weekly centre meets, Sophie has also represented our club 3 times at the WA Athletics Country Championships. In 2020, Sophie was selected in the WA All Schools team for 400m hurdles, in which she also qualified for the WA state team (cancelled due to COVID 19). To date Sophie holds the GAC club records in U17 100m Hurdles and U16 300m Hurdles Although Sophie may be in her final year with Little Athletics, she won’t be hanging up her spikes just yet, with plans to take the senior route with Athletics West. Congratulations and the very best of luck to you in your endeavours Sophie! Congratulations also to our Vice Captain, Riley Heinrich. Riley is a helpful and friendly member of our Club. He is a wonderful role model for our younger athletes with his awesome attitude and great sportsmanship, and deserves to be recognised for his efforts ~ Congratulations, Riley!

13.01.2022 For the second year running, the Geraldton Athletics Centre committee has undertaken a process to elect two of our athletes as GAC Club Captain and Vice Captain. A big thank you to our 2020 GAC Captain, Nevaeh Hill, and GAC Vice Captain, Macey Hadley, for their efforts in taking on the inaugural roles, in what turned out to be quite a challenging year. You have both done our Club proud ... The newly elected persons will be responsible for representing our club at our competition days, as well as at Country Championships and other out of area events. The term of captaincy will take place during the last half of the current season and the first half of the following season. Voting takes place in January once Country Championship nominations have been finalised, as participation in that event is required for eligibility. The selection criteria includes, but is not limited to: attendance, achievement, good behaviour, sportsmanship, contribution and commitment to the club. All age groups are eligible. This process has been overseen by GAC life member, Jenny Grosse, who also collected and collated the committee’s voting results. Our 2021 Club Captain will be announced by GAC Club President Phill Hadley, at the start of the Country Championships this afternoon.... so watch this space

05.01.2022 With the emergence of COVID-19, Geraldton Athletics Centre committee have reached the difficult decision to CANCEL our Centre Championships & End of Season Windup, scheduled to be held this Friday 20 & Saturday 21 March. Tomorrow’s final training day will be cancelled also. Our duty of care to our members and their families is paramount and we hope this decision provides you with peace of mind.
